Played both courses but not up to last years standard but times changed. The accommodation was up to its very high standard. The restaurant had a very limited menu and the same snack menu for lunch and dinner which was very disappointing, the staff levels in the restaurant very low which meant getting food and drinks was very slow which meant getting food between rounds quite tight on time. The price of the food was higher than the standard of the food served.
We rented a 3 bed villa with a fabulous view over the O'Connor golf course and beyond. The villa was fantastic with its own pool and garden area accessed via bedrooms. The club house is superb and has just been refurbished. There are some great outdoor areas to eat over looking the golf course. Its our 5th stay as a family of 5 and most of the staff are the same - very warm, welcoming and friendly. The food in the clubhouse is great and varied. The golf facilities are excellent with 2 18 hole courses and a par 3 thats quick and fun to play. Every precaution was taken in regards to covid and it felt very clean and safe.
Been to Amendoeira for a great play at Faldo course. Number 12 of all courses in Portugal and its worth it. Great green greens, beautiful sights, choose your tee wisely otherwise you loose a lot of balls. The back nine is easier than the first nine. Great service from reception to caddy. They respond quickly on questions. The course is hilly so I recommend a buggy. Because of Corona it was quiet on the course. I hired taylormade clubs for 30 euro and I walked the course for 70 euro included the buggy. You receive a coin so you can practice before you start at the driving range. Great course for a lot of golffun!
The Faldo course has far too many bunkers and is more suitable for professionals rather than even good amatuers. The Oconnor course is much more enjoyable. Whilst food prices are reasonable the drinks are very expensive - small beer 5e and Gin and Tonic up to 12e. Our accommodation was 3/4 of a mile from the clubhouse and we had to rely on a shuttle bus to get too and fro. The staff however were very good
I stayed 30 days with my wife at Amendoeira Golf Resort. This was our sixth one months’ longstay for golf. The accommodation at Amendoeira was the best one we have had during our longstays. Five years ago we stayed at Mar Menor Resort in Murcia, Spain. Thereafter we have stayed five times in the Algarve: four years ago at Pestana Gramacho Resort, three years and two years ago at Marina Club Lagos and last year at Cabanas Gardens by My Choice Algarve in Cabanas de Tavira. Amendoeira Resort is a superb golf resort with lovely accommodation, good food and wines, two great golf courses, excellent practice facilities, attentive service, beautiful gardens and breathtaking views. It’s certainly worth of its 5 stars and 41st place in Golf World’s ranking list ’Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe 2018’. We had a two bedroom apartment in the Aldeia da Figueira section of the resort. The apartment was modern, spacious (108 square meters), clean and well furnished with two bathrooms. There was plenty of wardrobe space. Regarding the accommodation everything worked perfectly, including the free high speed wifi. There was a spacious underground garage under the building. We had breakfast every morning in our apartment and cooked one third of our lunches and dinners in our fully equipped kitchen. The nearest supermarket is Aldi at N125 in Alcantarilha. We visited it just once (immediately after our arrival) because of its limited product range and made our shopping in Pingo Doce in Armacao da Pera. The only restaurant within walking distance is the club restaurant. We enjoyed another third of our lunches and dinners there. The food was tasty and the portions big. Our favourite dishes here were Goat cheese salad and Fish soup for starters and Tandoori chicken and Portuguese steak for mains. The resort reception called us a taxi to go to the restaurants outside the resort. The taxi service worked very well. Local taxi drivers seem to know the resort well because every time the taxi was waiting for us right in front of our house. Our favourite restaurants in the area were Porches Velho in Porches, O Barradas in Silves and O Cantinho and Casa de Pasto A Cisterna in Alcantarilha next to the church. I played 15 rounds and my wife 10 rounds on the Amendoeira courses. The courses are very good with fantastic setting and layout. We liked both of them. The condition of the greens, fairways and teeing grounds was good although we prefer faster greens. Both golf courses are challenging and real tests of your game. You have to plan your game properly and be accurate with your drives and other shots. The significant elevation changes on the Faldo Course provide spectacular views of the whole resort and surrounding countryside. The bumps and hollows on the fairways make your ball bounce here and there. I felt that all slopes pushed my balls towards large and deep steep faced bunkers and water hazards. The O’Connor Course is easier of the courses in terms of walking. It has a lot of water hazards. If you want to lose fewer balls I advise you to buy a strokesaver (yardage book) at the reception in order to understand better where the hazards are. The caddiemasters provide great service which is friendly and efficient. We played two rounds on the par-3 Academy Course, too. Every hole has three teeing options with lengths from 45 m to 105 m. The course isn’t as easy as you could imagine. We lost a few balls in the water hazards behind the greens due to too long shots. We also visited the gym twice. To make Amendoeira Resort even better for our next stay we have a few wishes: - The beds can be made more comfortable by removing the plastic canvas under the sheet. - Our apartment had no carpets whatsoever. A few carpets could add to the comfort of living. - Sorting of waste is very well taken care of at Amendoeira Resort. However, where to put various types of waste in the apartment when there is just one waste basket? We felt it a little strange if we should have gone to the supermarket and buy more waste baskets to the apartment. All in all, a very elegant, relaxed, comfortable and enjoyable resort. We had a wonderful stay with splendid weather. Highly recommended!…
