When I travel, I want to soak it all in. I really enjoy learning about the local culture and people. I don't want to be an "Ugly American" tourist. Frankly, I am sometimes embarrassed by my home country's arrogance. I respect how most all people live, and I am eager to learn! I also am happy to share my own experiences with others if they are interested. A typical trip for me would be similar to my last one which was to Cologne, Germany:
1. Saw a wonderful Jasper Johns art exhibit at the Ludwig Museum.
2. Attended a My Morning Jacket concert in downtown Colgne. This band typically plays at very large venues in the USA, so to see them in a small local bar was amazing.
3. Watched all the locals dressed up in colorful costumes and celebrating their first night of Carnival. It was similar to USA's Mardi Gras celebration, but it lasts a lot longer!
4. Found an amazing pizza parlor where I hung out and read a good book and enjoyed a nice bottle of Riesling.
