Retired product of Yorkshire UK. A cyclist of 60 years. Approx 6½k miles have been ridden around Jamaica and I've slept in every parish
Not a full time resident of Kingston, Jamaica, I spend Christmas and summer with family in the UK. In Jamaica I mostly live with a family that ‘adopted’ me. I know little about the tourist resorts and hotels as I don't stay in them. When travelling around in the past I stayed in guest houses. Now I stay with friends around the island. They range from 2 rich famous people to squatters on capture land. I've experienced high life, bathed in rivers and used pit toilets; the full spectrum. Having lived and worked with Jamaicans for 40 years I'm very familiar with Jamaican culture, food, politics, attitudes etc. Increasingly I'm mistaken for a Jamaican from appearance or speech. That has benefits; it keeps hustlers at bay and gives local rates when sightseeing.
