Stayed here for first week in January. Staff were all very pleasant, but not so keen on various parts of the hotel. POSITIVES.....
Polite, friendly and helpful staff... Food in main restaurant was very good and at a reasonable price.
NEGATIVES.
Absolutely NO atmosphere whatsoever in either the bar or the breakfast/dinner dining areas. Just a little background music or something would make both areas a warmer place, but both were like a morgue and you could hear other people’s conversations it was that quiet (some music would have helped no end) I did actually request some music be played, whilst I dined in the restaurant, but when the lady waitress asked the duty manager, they were apparently told “No” !!! I wasn’t after a Rave, just a little background noise perhaps !! On the one occasion music was played at breakfast however, I think the CD must have been “Now Thats What I Call Funeral Service Music Volume One” !!! Really, it can’t be that hard just to play something sensible but non wrist slitting ??!!!! The Bar food was Horrid.... Battered Cod ... the batter was sloppy with no crunch whatsoever (almost certainly frozen) and the chunky chips weren’t cooked and hard in the middle.... I gave it a second try, but the burger this time wasn’t much of an improvement. How can the bar food be at such polar opposites to the restaurant food ?? Rooms on corridor 140-160ish.... every morning from 4am ish, it was so noisy, with banging and crashing coming from what I think was kitchen staff. Room cleaning was terrible. First night I opened a bar of soap, used it once to wash my hands and following morning it was taken ??!! But not replaced. Every day I had long dark hairs in sink, bath and in my bed.... I have very short fair hair, so 100% not mine. Towels that I clearly hung back up to use again were replaced.. Not an issue really, but hotels promote the “save the planet” issue with reusing towels, but don’t follow their own guidelines. I returned one afternoon to find a clear bin bag full with dirty tissues and other rubbish (not mine) just left on my dressing table and a dirty mug just filled with water and left in my bathroom !! Also on arrival on my first night, both mugs had tide marks around the top where they hadn’t been washed properly... I complained and was upgraded to a better room, by very helpful staff, but it was very off putting and I have changed my hotel booking for next week and shall be staying elsewhere.

This has got to be the worst Christmas lunch I have ever eaten , as a vegetarian I had asked for roast but without the meat and an extra Yorkshire in lieu of turkey I didn’t fancy the veggie option on Christmas Day as it was Risotto , well the starters of soup and salmon were average at best and the canopies were indescribable ! Our main meals arrived only one Yorkshire so asked for additional which were duly delivered the vegetables then followed and can only be described as disappointing all boiled carrots sprouts cauliflower and parsnips Boiled not roasted no seasoning , tasteless and hard undercooked I could not believe it our party of 5 adults 5 children had paid over £600 for this was shocking for a hotel of their standing and reputation so disappointing and food was inedible I have written an email of complaint still awaiting a response I shall not be returning

We stayed 3 nights in December and were disappointed with our visit. The only thing good about the hotel is the location.
Breakfast: my wife always has hot chocolate at breakfast, but here we were told “no, because the bar is closed”, though I am not sure what the bar had to do with the kitchen. Worse still, on one morning we were not offered teas / coffee / toast as we were seated, which then took an unacceptable while to order. Then we heard adjoining guests complain of a lack of cleared tables, and which then caused a queue for breakfast. Chaos.
Steps: we counted 35 steps to reach our room, with no lifts and no offer of assistance with our luggage at check-in.
Room: We booked and stayed in an Executive room, but which seemed no larger than a Standard room. The room also had dirty, grey and torn net curtains. Yuk.
Key cards: Our room key cards both stopped working, so I then had to return (up and down the 35 steps) back to reception to have them revalidated.
All these problems could easily be addressed with simple fixes: - Staff to offer help with luggage at check-in - Update door key card system - Either clean or replace all net curtains - Ensure sufficient staff to cover breakfast service - Ensure availability of hot chocolate (and herbal teas) at breakfast - Do not advertise executive rooms unless they really are Executive.

The Bull is a lovely hotel set in the heart of Peterborough town centre.
The parking can be a little tricky to navigate but if you are staying at the hotel it is free of charge which is a fantastic idea.
The room we stayed in was pleasant - nice amount of space - the bathroom was a little outdated but it did the job nicely.
Our room didnt have plug sockets next to the bed, which is annoying because you couldnt charge your phone next to your bed overnight.
the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very nice.
I would happily stay again

Mark B, Thank you for your review, and I am delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us. Thank you too for the compliments regarding our excellent staff, and also the quality of our breakfast. I have noted your comment regarding the location of the nearest socket in proximity to the bed, and will take the appropriate action when redecorating the room soon. We hope very much to see you again in the future.

I have stayed at the Bull Hotel before, but this time was even better. The bed was comfy, lovely smelling complimentary shampoo and shower gel, classy complimentary biscuits and I loved the Cadbury hot chocolate (it was a nice touch at bedtime).
We asked for a twin room, but when we got up there, it was made up as a double. My partner went to reception who apologised profusely and before he could even get back up the stairs to the room, housekeeping were knocking on the door with new bedding and very apologetic. Brilliant service and nothing was too much.
This hotel is brilliantly placed for the town centre. The car park is a bit tricky to find the first time around, but it’s fairly secure and you get your parking ticket validated at the end of your stay.
If I had one complaint, it would be that you’re only allocated one room key (which wouldn’t normally be a problem) but they like to keep you secure, so there are locked doors on each floor which you need to swipe your room key to get to the bedrooms. I left my partner and his friend out drinking whilst I had a soak in the bath and went to bed, only to have him ringing me that he couldn’t get to our room to pick up the key so that they could enjoy the hotel bar whilst I slept.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel. 5 stars

emmaandsamschool, I was delighted to read your very kind review, following your recent stay at this hotel. I am truly pleased with your very kind comments, which I shall take great pleasure in sharing with all our team members. I have noted your comments with regard to the entry key for the rooms that are occupied for twin or double occupancy, and will carry out the necessary training in order to avoid a repercussion of this in the future. Thank you for your review once again.
