My wife and another couple with their granddaughter stayed here one night. Upon checking in, I took the young girl to the indoor pool. When we walked into the pool area we did not see nor notice any signage to indicate any steps down to the main pool surface. Later on we noticed a ramp down to the pool, but not when we first walked in. Normally "WET" areas anywhere in the country would have signs stenciled on the step areas with the words "STEP DOWN" or WATCH YOUR STEP", but not the indoor pool at the Sure Stay hotel (by Best Western) in Haubstadt,Indiana. I fell extremely hard from the top step to the concrete pool floor. I badly bruised my right arm, and suffered a very bad headache for several hours afterward. The manager asked if I needed a doctor or an ambulance, and I said no. It was too soon after my bad fall to contemplate any medical attention. I called the hotel 5 days after the incident to see if anything was going to be done to the pool step area to prevent any future incidents, and I was told no very emphatically by ANDY. He said that I was the first person to fall in that area in 20 years. He was VERY RUDE in his phone demeanor, and refused to allow me to speak with the owner of the hotel. Needless, to say, ANDY needs to find different employment!! There are too many other hotels in the area to bother with ANDY again! BOther than this incident, the hotel had comfortable beds, a pretty good breakfast and a quick check-out. Get out before you fall!!

Dear Mr. Perry,
I am sorry for your experience and am saddened to see your review. Your claim of what occurred during your stay at our hotel and the phone call does not match what had happened. I personally assisted you and asked you whether you required an ambulance or any medical attention and you refused because you said that you were okay. I asked you multiple times during your stay whether or not I could provide you an ice pack or pain ointment and you refused by informing me, "It is not a big deal, I am okay, thank you for helping me". Our staff members and I asked you and your party multiple times during your two night stay whether you were okay, whether everything was to your satisfaction in the hotel and every time we were informed everything was wonderful.
When you called our hotel 5 nights later, I was the one who answered the phone and my recollection of our conversation does not include any of what you claim to have been said by me. You asked me whether or not we will be doing anything to address the stairs in the pool area. I replied by informing you that we have placed a towel hamper there and are looking into a more permanent solution to help guests such as yourself with poor sight. I also informed you that no one has fallen on the steps since the hotel was built 20 years ago so we were extremely surprised by your incident since we have railings and we have a handicap accessible ramp with a railing.
You proceeded to shout at me over the phone, asking for an owner and unfortunately, I came off as rude to you with my response of not giving you the personal number to an owner of the facility, but I am the General Manager and it is my responsibility to operate the hotel and speak to our guests about any issues. In addition, you threatened me by informing me that you would post a bad review of the hotel and that you would ruin my reputation personally unless we provided a refund. When you chose to use blackmail as a means to try and receive a refund, we will not oblige to this request.
Again, I am sorry you had a negative experience at the hotel. I have operated the facility for over 3 years and we have served tens of thousands of guests that have had a great experience with not only myself but the hotel and our team which is reflected by our reviews. I personally feel obligated to make sure that our guests have a good experience and if there are any issues feel comfortable informing us of any issues so that we can fix them.

This was a great hotel and we would highly recommend it. The only thing was the breakfast bar was OK however, not much of a variety, the waffle machine was pretty neat. We would stay at this hotel again if we traveled in that direction, also it was pet friendly and the pet fee was reasonable.
