About the neighborhood
Villas, mansions and luxury resorts surrounded by olive groves – simple and seductive pleasures this cosmopolitan hangout in the Peloponnese has it all. Beautiful beaches backed by the sun-kissed Mediterranean landscape, attractive summer villas yacht marinas, the island of Spetses across the narrow straits, fresh fish and a lively nightlife are just a few features in the portrait of Porto Heli and Ermioni, a destination for the cognoscenti. A few kilometers south of Porto Heli, on the southernmost cape in the Argolis, Agios Emilianos takes its name from a chapel with a good view of Spetses. Hidden in the lush surroundings are the grand summer homes of famous Greeks ,Foreigners and Royalty
Getting around
Ermioni, fresh fish where they used to gather the purple
Small and tidy on its peninsula, Ermioni resembles a piney island. For you the attraction is its famous tavernas serving delicious fresh fish, followed by dancing till dawn – sometimes on the tables. In the 5th century BC, Ermioni was known for its production of royal purple derived from the murex sea snail and reserved for the use of royalty and still retained in folk memory with the phrase, to the purple born.Porto Heli’s fine little harbor is well protected from the wind and much favored by yachtsmen. Across the way are the ruins of the ancient city of Alieon. Porto Heli is one of the most famous and luxurious holiday destinations in Greece for a reason.
How to get there
To go to Porto Heli by car, you take the National Road from Athens to Corinth and after the Corinth Canal, you follow the signs to Epidaurus. From this point and onwards, the road is not highway anymore but it is a rural road. This rural road by very scenic and goes to Porto Heli via Epidaurus and Kranidi. The entire road trip takes about 3 hours.
