Fleur de Sel is a self-catering guesthouse situated on the south-eastern coast of the island of Mahé, more precisely on the Anse Royale beach. It is made up of 4 waterfront, ocean-facing 1 bedroomed apartments, each capable of hosting 2 adults and 1 child.
It is a 60m2 air-conditioned apartment has a fully-equipped kitchenette and bathroom with hot/cold shower. We offer a daily chambermaid service, except sundays and public holidays, and laundry facilities. The rooms have direct WIFI internet connection and cable television.
Since Fleur de Sel is self catering, we do not offer any meals. However, there are 2 restaurants within walking distance and 2 shops close by, where you can buy your groceries.

Great location on the beach, a few niggles
These chalets front directly onto a (rather gritty) part of the beach at Anse Royale (water shoes are a good idea), but it's great for swimming and there are a couple of kayaks for use by guests as well. The chalets have a living room/kitchen that opens out onto a sea-facing verandah and a bedroom/bathroom with a good walk-in shower but (this seems to be common in the Seychelles) there's no door between bedroom and bathroom. There's air conditioning in the bedroom but not in the living room (though there is a fan), and there's hot water in the bathroom but not in the kitchen (we used the kettle for washing up).
Two other niggles: first, inadequate cooking facilities (I realise this won't matter to everyone but we like to cook, especially after a day's fishing). There's a microwave, large fridge/freezer and a two-ring hob, but no oven and hardly any cooking utensils (no peeler, scissors or chopping knife, for example). And although there is a barbecue for each chalet (you have to buy your own charcoal), there are no tools to use with it. The waste bin in the kitchen is also far too small.
The second niggle is poor soundproofing between the chalets, which are semi-detached, with a (locked) communicating door. We were kept awake one night by a crying baby next door - fortunately we only overlapped by a couple of days.
Having said all this, we enjoyed our stay here and I would rate Fleur de Sel as good value for money. Anse Royale has one of the best snorkelling beaches on Mahe and there are shops and restaurants nearby, so the location is excellent.

Perfect for us!
We wanted somewhere to base ourselves on Mahe for a full 2 weeks and Fleur de Sel proved a real find. It isn't too far from the airport, on the coast road along the east coast of the island, in Anse Royale. The chalet/ bungalow was lovely - simply but stylishly furnished with everything we needed for our stay. Accommodation comes with a large bedroom with stunning sea views from the bed, large bathroom with huge shower (dinner plate shower head and again a cleverly placed window provides a sea view!) and a spacious and light kitchen/ diner/ lounge with flat screen tv (we could plug in our laptop through an hdmi cable and watch dvds, and tv programmes from our hard drive -the 2 local tv channels were fairly uninspiring!).
There were 2 adults and 2 young children in our party, and we were able to push the extra single bed we had requested into the bedroom so that we grown ups could use the lounge in the evening. Our children are small so could easily share the single bed, but the sofa can also be made up as a bed if two older children are staying, but this would put the living area out of use for anyone else once they are in bed. The chalets are interconnected, so a larger party could get two adjoining units. There was a veranda area overlooking the sand garden with coconut trees that leads down to the beach with lovely sunloungers and elegant wooden deckchairs. We were in number 2, which we thought had the best views. There are 4 units in total but as we were there in a quiet period we had the whole place to ourselves for a good part of the time...Bliss.
The beaches around Mahe are beautiful, ranging from the whitest, finest sand we have ever seen, to coarser sand from the coral reefs. The beach at Anse Royale is a mixture of both, and so we found there were large rocks and clusters of washed up coral on the beach during our stay. Our kids loved hunting for this treasure and it didn't bother us at all! The trade winds had just started as we arrived, meaning there was a lot of seaweed on the beach and in the sea at Anse Royale. This varied day to day depending on the wind and tides, but we didn't find it a problem at all. We still managed to snorkel and saw the most incredible colourful fish right on our doorstep. We enjoyed the breeze the trade winds brought which kept temperatures really pleasant, and bugs away. It was much stiller towards the end of our stay and thats when we needed our mosquito spray! You have to time your beach visits with the tides though, and although it varied a little, we lost the beach at our back door for most of the afternoon, as the high tide covered it completely. On one day we drove around the island to find a snorkelling spot without success as every beach seemed to disappear! We loved that all the beaches are public, so even those at the most exclusive resorts are accessible to everyone and are well used by Seychellois.
Car hire - we rented a car through Fleur de Sel with Okai which was really reasonable. The service was good and we were happy with it all. Technically you could stay there without a car, and there is a reasonably regular bus service, but we appreciated the freedom to roam as we pleased and appreciated aircon with young kids. There were no car seats for the kids though through Okai cars, and we ended up using rolled up beachtowels as booster seats. We had asked Anne-Laure to arrange a taxi to pick us up at the airport on arrival (costing 30 euro for a short journey) but in retrospect we wished we had arranged for car hire from day one as they could have delivered a car to the airport for us to pick up.
Top tips - we loved hanging out at Kaz Kreole with its swing (good for pizza), enjoyed freshly caught tuna with coconut sauce at Surfers Beach restaurant, explored the Spice Gardens and forest at Le Jardin du Roi (which was fascinating and was home to some huge tortoises, but the food was tres cher for what it was!), had a decent Indian meal at Le Relax Hotel, and particularly loved the restaurant and ambience at La Pleine St Andre (which also happens to be the home of the Takamaka Rum distillery). Also worth a brief visit is Kenway House in Victoria (lovely example of colonial architecture & very expensive duty free jewels!), the big market in Market Street - the fish part is great, and there are lots of local spices (you can enjoy a very decent icecream & cappacino at an italian cafe on Market street too). Apart from that we found Victoria pretty unremarkable...
Pros:
Lovely convenient spot
great accommodation
own beach
great facilities
friendly and helpful staff
Cons:
Seaweed in sea some of the time (not a problem for us - got the impression that the island very carefully protects the marine and forest environment and do not intervene which can only be positive)
Internet - the wifi was pretty poor and needed a lot of coaxing ... apparently they will get a cable from Tanzania in July which is supposed to improve internet access. Just forced us to relax more which was good!
Thank you Anne Laure for a wonderful stay! And also to your husband for rescuing our barbeque disaster!
