Nestled in the forest near the toe of the Kennicott Glacier, our 5 eco-friendly, private log cabins offer a comfortable place to rest after a day of exploring the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. The cabins, completed in 2015, were modeled after nearby original trapper cabins. Each cabin has two full size beds, a small kitchen set up with running water, and a drinking water filtration system. Stayed here for two nights in July. A wonderful cabin with everything you need. Nothing like having a shower after hiking all day and exploring the area. It is an easy walk into town (McCarthy) for supper, a cold beer etc. Plus we had access...More

About the neighborhood
McCarthy, Alaska was not the first town established to support the mining town of Kennicott. The town of Blackburn was first established in the early 1900’s as a settlement of hopeful workers and businessmen. In 1911, the Blackburn Roadhouse was built. It was a two-story structure built with logs and milled wood, and at the time it was considered the “biggest log structure in the district.” After a two year boom, Blackburn faced a sudden economic downturn caused by the Shushanna gold rush. Because its location was not on the direct route of the Copper River and Northwestern Railway, Blackburn did not endure. The Blackburn schoolhouse was hauled to Kennicott and the remaining buildings fell into disrepair.
Getting around
We provide transportation to and from the footbridge upon arrival and departure. Bicycles are provided to each cabin for the duration of your stay. You may also take the Wrangell Mountain Shuttle between McCarthy and Kennicott for $5 per person each way.
