This was a perfect and simple apartment for our five nights on the beautiful island of Kolocep. Communication prior to going was good and helpful and we recieved a warm welcome when we arrived. Although the apartment had two bedroom we only had need for one and it was very clean and well equipped. We had one cold, rainy day and a sofa area would have been nice as the kitchen is small and very dark - however these are minor points as for the other four days we used the wonderful outdoors area. What made this apartment so very special was its proximity to the sea!!! Right there beneath the apartment!!! A lovely decked area with plenty of sunbeds are available directly below the apartment - the sea is so beautifully clean and clear - but beach shoes are required due to the sea urchins that clinf to the rocks and pebbles. This 'beach' is stony but just five minutes away is a beautiful sandy beach, again so clean and clear, with sun beds to hire if you wanted. The sea is easy to get into and seemed very safe.
The island of Kolocep is pure magic - no cars, so so clean, friendly people. We went towards the end of the season and had hoped to just eat in the restaurants but sadly one had closed already, one was only doing a very limited menu (and i believe stopped serving food half way through our stay) one was only doing weddings for the whole five nights we were there which was disappointing and one is owned by the hotel and the hotel guests came first! They so had/didnt have a booking system which became confusing - we booked with the restaurant onky to find our booking was null and void as we hadn't booked through the hotel! This left us without food for one night - luckily we had bought bread and cheese from the little shop to tide us over!!! The next time we booked with the hotel (although they tried to tell us we didn't need to!!!) however - we had two of our very best meals ever in this restaurant and would go back to the island to eat here again!!!!
All in all the apartment was perfect, the island is magical and we had the best five night stay - thank you x

Relaxing holiday on an island paradise
Spent 2 weeks chilling out on this idyllic island. Serves as an excellent base for visiting Dubrovnik or the other Elaphiti Islands. However most of our time was spent on the island as the atmosphere was so relaxing. The car-free island has two villages. Donje Celo is situated on a sheltered bay based around the ferry pier with 2 taverns, one hotel and the Villa Ruza. Often we made the 15 mins trek across the island to Gornje Celo, where we found the small shallow beach is more suitable for young children.
Our apartment was superb. The location was second to none, situated on the waters-edge with lovely views across the bay. The shared terrace is large with sunbeds and 2 tables to serve both apartments. Coffee and breakfast on the terrace was our morning routine, then every evening we were treated to glorious sunsets. The friendly family Svilokos run the site well and look after your needs admirably. They treated us to coffee and baked cakes one day, fresh figs from their garden and fried whitebait (caught by their son) on other days. The air-conditioned apartment was spotlessly clean and served with regularly changed towels and sheets.
We would love to spend more time here and will definitely be making a future visits. Many thanks to the family for it so perfect.

comfortable, well appointed apartment in delightful location
Comfortable apartment, in a superb get away from it all location. Both bedrooms are large and comfortable, the bathroom is very good and the mini kitchen is well appointed. However, if there are four of you there is very little living space, just a table in the kitchen. If there's only two of you the second bedroom can be used as a mini sitting room. The lovely terrace has two tables/chairs (one for each apartment), so most of our time was spent sitting outside as we had delightful weather. TV only has one station and the wifi could only be picked up on the terrace and occassionally in one bedroom!
The owners were a delight! Ante was so helpful with our pre planning. His lovely wife purchased some basic goods for us in advance of our arrival. The family invited us for their traditional meet and greet of coffee and home made cakes and offered information about the area as required. The owners live downstairs but were very unobtrusive, and offered the use of their lovely garden, bicycles and barbecue if required. Sharing a terrace with neighbours from the upstairs apartment means that you don't have total privacy. Luckily we had delightful neighbours too which added to the experience. The views from the terrace are outstanding. Down a flight of steps and you are on the rocky beach and straight into the clear turquoise waters. Beware however, the sea urchins love this area of rocks, so deck shoes are essential to prevent very sore feet! Crocs don't work to swim in - your feet float!!! :)
The island is car free, peaceful, clean and has loads of hidden coves for swimming and plenty of pathways for walking. Restaurants are limited, but are reasonable in cost. Our neighbours raved about the fish barbecue at the beach at Gornje Cello, just around the coast. There is a safe and clean sandy beach only 300 metres from the apartment. We visited Dubrovnik old town, taking the 6.45 ferry, and a bus, arriving at the Town at 7.30. we were so glad we arrived early as there were few people and so had plenty of photo opportunities before the crowds and the heat arrived!! Restaurants and bars are more expensive in town than on the island! We tried sea kayaking which was great, however, watch out for the afternoon winds coming up which created two foot waves in a matter of 20 minutes causing us quite a problem getting back! We took the ferry to Lopud island which was also delighful, but more commercialised than Kolocep. All in all a delightful holiday with plenty of peaceful times but also plenty of activity if you want it. Not ideal for teenagers unless they are into walking swimming cycling or kayaking! Would suit families with youngsters and couples.

Lovely quiet apartment on tiny island
My boyfriend and I stayed here last month (May '13) for a week and thought it was fantastic. We rented to larger apartment, due to the smaller one bedroom being booked on some of the days we wanted, but it was actually a really good size for us. It was VERY reasonably priced, and great value for money.
- The kitchen was well equip and clean, there was a fridge and utensils for cooking the bathroom was very modern, and the entire place was air conditioned.
The one or two things I would say about the apartment is that it is above the owners own home, so not super private, and really has NO food (we had to buy salt and olive oil etc and ended up leaving most of it), though there was welcome red wine and chocolates. You also share a balcony with anyone else renting the other apartment, but it was a great size and had a fantastic view.
The island of Kolocep itself was lovely, though very small, and lacking a bit in places to eat and buy groceries. We got the (very cheap) ferry to Dubrovnik 20mins away most days (the shop didn't seem to have bread or breakfast things, it was mainly beach toys, postcards, beer and icecream). The days we did stay on the island there wasn't really anywhere for us to eat - one quite expensive restaurant, the hotel (where you have to book dinner the day before) and a couple of bars. On the other side, in the other village, there was a nice tavern-style place that sold basic food.
We had a lovely time, and felt very well looked after by the family, who organised all our taxis for us (at a very reasonable rate) as well as meeting us from the ferry and bringing us cake and pastries during the week.
This would be perfect for a couple or family looking for a quiet, safe coastal holiday (the beaches weren't all that) that don't mind self catering and want to meet people so enjoy the personal interaction with the owner and his family. The pictures do not do it justice, the flat is spotless and perfect, and the island is beautiful.

Great for young families and such lovely hosts
My husband and I rented the 2 bedroom aparment as we needed more space with our 21 month old son than the hotel would have allowed. The family from the very start were very hospitable. We were greeted at the ferry dock, our bags transported over to the apartment, and Ante even carried our pushchair (complete with child) up the stairs for us. There were even beers in the fridge which was excellent and much needed after a long day travelling, and a few days before we departed we were brought barbecued squid, potatoes and tomatoes which was very kind.
The apartment itself is practically laid out, nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. We had a travel cot (provided for us) in our room, so used the second bedroom as a living room with a TV in it. The bathroom is very spacious with good facilities. The kitchen and dining area aren't huge, but the terrace is huge so not really a problem. The terrace also has one of the loveliest views on the island in my opinion.

Villa Svilokos - fantastic location, super hospitable hosts!
We stayed three weeks on the Island of Kolocep at Villa Svilokos; for the first week as a couple and then as a family when our fifteen year old son joined us after an action packed week of kayaking in Montenegro with Watermark Experiences.
The accommodation was ideal for our needs with comfortable beds and the most amazing views over the bay from the windows and the large shared terrace. It was amazing being lulled to sleep at night with the sound of the sea just outside our windows. Our hosts were most helpful and kind
We loved the ease of getting around on the local ferry between Dubrovnik and the other Elaphiti Islands and there is great kayaking around the island with sit on top kayaks to be hired from the local hotel.
Highly recommended.

Phantastic place for relaxing holiday
We spent 10 days in the middle floor apartment of family Svilokos and liked everything about it. The family was very hospitable and friendly, the view - amazing, we got asleep listening sounds of the sea every night! The apart lays between 2 beaches - sandy beach suitable for children and rocky FKK beach with convinient ladder leading directly into the deep sea. And also there is possibility to go in the water just 10 meter away of the apart! We would certainly recommend this apart to our friends!

Perfect, relaxing stay on Kolocep Island: wonderful views, hospitality and location.
We loved it here. We needed a break where we did not do our usual sightseeing, museums and activities. This was perfect. Kolocep is a small, car free island outside Dubrovnik and it is quiet apart from the ferries (small ones!) to and from Dubrovnik and the other islands, and some boat tours. The apartment is perfectly adequate for a couple, and the room that is another bedroom can be used as a lounge as it now has a sofa/daybed and TV set up as so. (It is 2 single beds otherwise).
The rooms have OUTSTANDING views - wide open windows showed the crystal clear water and you could listen to the water lapping at night, or use the shutters or double glazed windows if you prefer total peace. It is a quiet place to stay so there is no real noise to disturb you. The family live below the apartment and they were not intrusive, or too discreet. They are very accomodating and friendly and they gave us cooked fish for lunch one day and the courgettes they picked from their allotment another.
They also picked us up from the airport and took us to the supermarket in Dubrovnik which was a great help! Then took us by boat to the apartment, same on departure, for a small fee. It was a highlight for us to go from rainy Britain to hot sun and sea, getting in their boat with our cases! We had perfect weather all week - first week of June 2012 - and it was not at all busy even though there is a hotel on the island and was half term. The people that come by off the boat trips actually were quite nice to people watch - it never felt busy or crowded, and the island itself felt a little like 1950's Italy. Charming.
The internet was on and off but not really a problem. I would recommend they get a tin opener, a frying slice, spatula, a sharp knife and a couple of mugs instead of small teacups but this is just feedback, we didn't mind this overall.
I recommend the restaurant on the corner, past the apartment for a special splurge type meal if you are eating at the apartment most of the time as we did. I think it is called Villa Ruza or Cruza. It has the most fantastic views and wonderful service - fresh fish caught that day and you can have carpaccio of tuna or salmon mousse and wine while you wait, watching the sunset before you. We had a cocktail one night too and you can just use as a bar.

Lovely apartment in amazing location with the most hospitable hosts
We had a fantastic time on Kolocep. Ante and his family were welcoming and went above and beyond. The apartment is small but perfectly functionable and the view from the terrace is amazing. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday then it is to be found on Kolocep - the children had a whale of a time playing on the beach and we took the ferry over to Dubrovnik a couple of times too. We will definitely return :)

There are no cars on the island and most locals choose to get around by bicycle. When you arrive by boat (along with the daily newspapers and fresh bread!) you will find bicycles to rent in the hotel by the hour or by the day. The small stone souvenir shop, and post office are all located in the port and the locals are all very friendly.
Also in the port you will find cafes, restaurants as well as the one main shop that is well equipped with all necessary ingredients. As you go further along the riviera which stretches from the port around the bay to the Villa Ruža there are lounge bar and luxury restaurant, which is the nearest place to our apartments.
Feel the morning sun from the early start with a guided sea kayaking tour of Kolocep Island or one of the other Elafiti Islands. See first hand the wonders of the mysterious underwater world, teeming with life, with a snorkelling or scuba diving excursion. Hike the marked trails of Kolocep Island and discover Napoleon's fort and the 9th century churches. Swim in the crystal clear waters under towering white cliffs.
The main hotel often have various activities as well as live music evenings where locals and others are welcome to join in. There are often festivals, summer music evenings, choirs and concerts but the dates vary from year to year.Last but not least, Dubrovnik has its famous Dubrovnik Summer Games, a theatre festival that attracts culture lovers every year. You are also welcome to visit numerous exhibitions in small galleries, churches, palaces, and classical music concerts which are held almost every night.
