About the neighborhood
About Thormanby: The village is mentioned twice in the Domesday Book as Tormozbi. The church originates to the 12th century.

About Sessay: Mentioned in the Domesday Book as 'Sezai', the manor was held after the Norman invasion first by the Percy family and then by the Darrell family from the end of the 12th century until it passed to the Dawnay family in 1525. The name is a combination of Old English words meaning 'Sedge Island', reflecting the marshy terrain to which the farmland would quickly return without good drains. According to legend, Sessay was once the home of a giant, slain by a Dawnay knight.
