John McDouall Stuart View is an ideal stopping-off point if you are en-route to the Highlands, looking for close links to Fife's world-famous golf courses, or walking the Fife Coastal Path. The apartment is owned by Fife Historic Buildings Trust, a local Building Preservation Trust. It is a company limited by guarantee and has charitable status. It was formed in 1997 primarily for the purpose of saving and restoring historic buildings in Fife which are at risk. We are very proud of our beautiful historic building and would love to welcome you here. John McDouall Stuart was born in this house in 1815 and later emigrated ‘down under’ where he led the first expedition to cross Australia from south to north in 1862. He is a celebrated figure in Australia, where he has a 950-mile highway named after him. The holiday apartment occupies the upper two floors of a three-storey B-listed building. The rooms have been decorated in keeping with the style of the building, retaining period features, such as the window shutters.

Wonderful seaside getaway
We had a beautiful two days R&R in Dysart at John McDouall place. It was cosy, perfectly maintained and excellently located less than 2 mins walk from the seafront. The cupboard of board games and big screen TV was a huge plus for us (and our very active child - aged 7) and all the kitchen accoutrements made it feel like a home from home with no need to being teatowels, condiments or utensils. The care that has been taken over this accommodation made it feel loved and made us feel welcomed, and we will definitely be back as soon as possible. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Breath taking view of Firth of the Forth
Such an amazing place; waking up to watch the sunrise and end the day with sunsets. Was privileged to stay in the house of John Mcdouall which is very well maintained. The famous harbour (2.mins walk) where Outlander series was filmed cant be missed. Thank you Dysart / Fife! My family and myself have explored several places and had an awesome time. Didnt want to.travel back to London as we have fallen in love with this place.

Fantastic apartment with great views
What a fantastic apartment nestled in the beautiful seaside town of Dysart. The accommodation contains some period furniture, but also has modern furnishings, marrying the old and new to perfection. The bed is very comfy, the lounge large, the kitchen very well equipped, and the views over the Forth estuary can only be described as 'incredible'. Clearly, much though has gone into furnishing the apartment and I was also impressed with the welcome pack, amount of information provided on local attractions, shops etc. Being a historic house, information is provided about the historical and cultural importance of this building and others in town, I honestly could not have asked for more, except possibly for a larger freezer. I will be back for a future visit from Saudi Arabia, and will be recommending it to friends and family.

Fabulous views
We had a lovely stay in the historic village of Dysart. With beautiful views over the Firth of Forth the apartment is spacious, clean and has everything we needed for our stay. It's very close to the Fife coastal trail and Kirkcaldy and lots of other tourist attractions. Will definitely be back!

What a view
We loved it. Perfect location, comfortable flat. Well provided and the VIEW was just awesome. Looking over the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and beyond. Even when the weather was bad. And the good news is we go back for another weeks stay on the 15 April.

A warm welcome next to the beach
The apartment is next to the beach and we had a wonderful time collecting pebbles and walking for hours. As it was Christmas the owner surprised us with a Christmas tree, wine, biscuits and other goodies. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will revisit in the near future!

All we hoped for and more!
What a pleasure to stay in such a beautifully and tastefully equipped apartment. On entering, we were struck by the charm of the building and the fascinating history surrounding it. This is an excellent place to stay for local sea-side walks, access to the Fife coastal villages and towns, inland places of historic interest and Kirkcaldy has an efficient train and bus service in to Edinburgh. Delicious coffee may be purchased at the cafe in the old Harbour Master's property in Dysart. We will stay there again.

Historic Dysart
The accommodation was first class and it was nice to be greeted by flowers, wine, bread and milk. Dysart is a very quiet historic village on the Fife Coastal Path. We had 3 lovely days walking the path and found it easy to use the buses to access the path. We also had a day in Edinburgh using the bus as transport. Not many places to eat locally since the Strathern hotel closed. The Harbour Masters house is interesting and serves day time food. Steep steps up to apartment door and up to the bedroom and bathroom.

Lovely accommodation
We thought the apartment was lovely, spacious, comfortable, warm and well-equipped; the bathroom is very smart and the shower is very good too! We liked the view and the peace and quiet of the immediate area and it was nice to sit at the window, watching the ships passing. The WiFi worked well most of the time though sometimes the connection was repeatedly dropped during a few hours. Some comments and suggestions, which have already been advised to the owners: 1. My wife found the kitchen workspace inadequate and would have appreciated another worktop along the other wall. 2. Being light sleepers, we would both have appreciated a bedroom curtain, although we managed to rig up a screen of sorts. 3. Very surprised that access to the Internet was not password-protected. Given that the apartment has its own router, this should be set up. Despite these reservations I have no hesitation in recommending the apartment. We ate twice at The Strathearn Hotel and found the food to be excellent and the service good. If we had taken note of all the negative reviews on TripAdvisor, we would never have gone! Apart from that, there doesn't seem to be anywhere decent to eat within walking distance though a man we spoke to said that the Elbow Room pub at the top of Windmill Road (1 mile away) is good.

Thank you very much for your review. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the feedback so we can improve things for future guests. The apartment has been converted to maintain the character and history of the building. The kitchen was designed to be large enough for two people to comfortably be in the kitchen preparing food and clearing up etc. We have provided a separate 'butchers trolley' to provide extra space for food preparation. A blind has now been fitted in the bedroom. We are sorry this wasn't available for your stay. The wifi is now password-protected. Thank you again for your review.
