Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont, Savoie, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes
La Grange is a converted barn (built in 1830) situated in a small and authentic Alpine hamlet just south of Chambery and right at the heart of the Chartreuse National Nature Park, France. The surrounding pre-alps top out at 6500 ft and provide stunning views, skiing and other mountain sports in Winter plus some of the best hill-walking in France during the Summer. The Chartreuse region was designated as a National Nature Park some years ago in recognition of its outstanding natural beauty plus the fact that it is home to some of the rarest Alpine flora in Europe and sports an extensive range of wildlife (with some breeds being unique to the Park). In addition, the area is steeped in history and is famously known for the original Chartusian monastery after which it is named. La Chartreuse is in close proximity to Grenoble (the capital of t... The location has a great view on mountains, and it is very well oriented (the days are quite long, even in winter and when the weather is good, it is very sunny). The place is calm, the little village has a goo "energy", with people...More

The location is amazing, with such a great landscape. The welcome was very warm and we really feel like being at home. Our winter stay was very pleasant, and for sure we'll visit again in summer !

About the neighborhood
A few years ago, the Chartreuse National Park in general and 'Les Vallée des Entremonts' in particular were almost unknown to English travellers. St. Pierre d'Entremont is the largest town in this area and, nowadays, is a busy and authentic alpine market town with an increasingly international clientele.

During Summer, the streets drum with the feet of hill walkers preparing for one of the many wonderful mountain trails - or perhaps getting up the nerve to try the well known (and challenging!) via verata just outside town. Local walks of interest include the 'Cirque de St. Meme', Mont Granier, Grand Som and countless less aerobic trails. The main Summer activity is hill walking though all manner of outdoor activities are available, either guided (by one of several loca...
