Small, clean, and well thought-out cottage
Small but comfortable and well though-out cottage, clean and well-equipped. A very good base for trips out and about Cumbria, Northumberland and beyond.

Gem of a Cottage in a Beautiful Location
This was our first stay away in self catering accommodation since the start of the pandemic, and couldn’t have chosen better; we feel very lucky to have found Old Chapel. The cottage was immaculately decorated and sparkling clean, it is bright and airy yet cosy. The owners have thoughtfully provided everything you need or could want for a comfortable stay. Although we arrived equipped for our dog, the cottage is very dog friendly and supply throws and items to ensure your pooch enjoys their stay as much as you. We stayed in the picturesque village of Hayton to explore the Hadrian’s Wall area which is extremely accessible, but there are plenty of nearby walks to enjoy and The Lakes and Northumbria are equally reachable. The very welcoming Stone Inn is literally on the doorstep, and provides excellent home cooked food at the weekend. Clare’s communication prior to arrival was greatly appreciated and reassuring; a comprehensive PDF was provided detailing everything we needed to know about the cottage and surrounding area.

What a lovely review, thank you so much, it’s so important to me that we communicate well as when operating a key code system, it’s vital our guests know as much information as possible before their arrival so I’m happy this was true in your case. Also pleased that you enjoyed the village and the local Stone Inn, not only super friendly but dog friendly also. I hope you are able to return another time to enjoy Old Chapel again and our charming village of Hayton. Best regards Clare

Cozy, welcoming holiday cottage
Our Fall 2020 trip marked our second stay at the fantastic Old Chapel cottage. We had previously spent our honeymoon there and were so excited to return as we absolutely love this charming holiday home. Both trips we found it spotlessly clean with everything we needed-- we especially love the sunny living/dining/kitchen space with its high ceilings, sunny large windows, and view out onto the lovely garden (the outdoor chairs on the cottage's patio are a great place to start or end your day with a cup of tea). Especially given the current situation, we so appreciated the lengths the owners had gone to to make the space clean and safe, and to signpost guest procedures, and were happy that the space was self contained, with all the amenities we needed to make some lovely meals-- and wash muddy hiking clothes at the end of our days tromping along the many nearby Hadrian's Wall and other walking paths. It's the perfect location to stay at while undertaking day trips out to some of the most fabulous walks along the Wall, and you're also well positioned for day trips to the Lake District, Carlisle, and the lovely coastal towns along the Solway- all of which we've taken advantage of over our past trips. The cottage owners are great to rent from: they have always been easy to contact, provided any and all information we needed, and made booking the cottage, and checking and and out, an easy process. At the cottage, they have kindly made up a fantastic guidebook to both the space and to the local and wider surrounding areas, with tips and suggested hikes that we have certainly followed up on. I know that a selling point to many is that this cottage is pet-friendly (and this is certainly evident, they have everything you'd need to bring a pet!), but I should also add that, for a couple of people with mild pet allergies, we didn't have any issues staying here, it is really kept so clean that we didn't have allergy issues. We didn't explore as much of little town around the cottage this trip as we had previously, but, on our first visit, we certainly did enjoy ending a day in the little pub garden that sits basically at the foot of the property. I would fully recommend this gem of a holiday cottage!

Thank you so much for an absolutely amazing review, I cannot tell you how much this means to me. It's great to know that the Covid-19 implementations we put in place didn't deter from your enjoyment, but just added to it making you feel comfortable and safe. The beautiful area has some great places to explore, so pleased you are getting around to explore them. We look forward to hosting you again in the future. All the best and stay safe. Clare

excellent pet friendly cottage in good walking country
I needed somewhere to sleep over Christmas since daughter's home was crowded so the dog and I came here for three nights. Well provided and Clare couldn't have been more helpful. Next door to a good pub although at Christmas, it was standing room only!

Excellent holiday cottage in an ideal location
The location of the cottage is ideally situated in a relaxing village with a very friendly pub right on the door step. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable, we couldn't have asked for more. The lakes are easily reached with lovely scenery along the way. We highly recommend at stay at this property and can not wait to return later in the year.

Great holiday cottage
Came back yesterday from a wonderful week at The old chapel. Great well laid out cottage with everything you need. Very clean and perfect for a relaxing getaway. The pub next door is very welcoming and serves excellent home cooked food on the weekends. The locals were lovely. So many great things to do in the area and plenty of woodland for the dog to enjoy! The weather was mostly kind to us and hopefully we'll be making a return visit to do all the things we missed. I would definitely recommend this one to friends. Clare and Paul were a pleasure to deal with.

Well-equipped and comfortable pet-friendly cottage
Good location next to the village pub. Great base for exploring Hadrian's Wall area. Local small town, Brampton, has everything you may need for supplies. We enjoyed a leisurely walk there and back one day and had lunch in dog-friendly cafe. Very well-equipped cottage - Clare the owner had thought of everything you may need and had left toiletries in case you had forgotten anything. There were even throws, towels and treats for your canine friend! The modern bathroom has a great double shower and there is plenty of hot water. We were very cosy and comfortable and would recommend.
