Authentiek gerestaureerde villa, met 3 slaapkamers (6p), 2 badkamers en een groot zwembad (6 x 10 m!) in het sfeervolle en typische dorp Gavalohori. Zalig terras onder de druivelaar met zicht op het zwembad en de 'White Mountains'. Tuin met olijf- en citrusbomen, en een buitendouche. Dorpsplein met bakker, enkele taverna's en kruidenier. Allemaal op slechts 100 m. Kustplaatsjes Almyrida en Kalives, met zandstranden op 3 en 7 km, cafés, restaurantjes, terrasjes... Heerlijk wandelen in de omgeving, vooral in het voor- en najaar. Gavalohori ligt tussen de 2 charmante stadjes Chania en Rethymnon, allebei op een half uur rijden. Na iedere uitstap is het ook weer heerlijk om thuis te komen, een duik te nemen, te relaxen en van de zwoele avonden te genieten met de krekels op de achtergrond.

Om Villa Spiti Athina te kunnen reserveren moeten kinderen verplicht kunnen zwemmen. Het zwembad is zo groot en overal zo diep (1.40 in het ondiepe tot 2.10 in het diepste deel) dat kinderen er niet kunnen staan.

Wunderbar !
Ein wunderschönes Ferienhaus, welches klasse ausgestattet ist ! Zur Begrüßung gibt es unter anderem einen Obstkorb und Wein ! Badetücher etc. sind vorhanden. Die Wohnung selber ist sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet! Der Pool ist toll !! Alles super... genau hier möchte man wohnen !!! Besser geht nicht !

Very nice place to stay
Wonderful renovated house in Crete. For us everything was perfect. Fantastic view on the montains. Two very good restaurants in the village. Beaches are close, but you have to have a car. The pool is really big enough to swim. We liked the atmosphere very much.

Dreaming of Crete
“When we opened the huge wooden door into Spiti Athina with a huge old key we knew that this was going to be very special. And it was! A lovely courtyard and fabulous swimming pool overlooking the church and mountains in the background......just stunning. The house was perfect. We had the large double bedroom upstairs with balcony and the same incredible views. The quiet fan was useful as it was hot when we were there. Lovely bed, crisp white sheets and plenty of towels. The other rooms were equally adequate and spacious. The small kitchen was practical and has everything you need. There is a lounge area but we never used it as we were outside all the time! There were midges and mosquitos from about 5:30pm but we had plenty of creams and sprays and it was fine. The seating/ dining area outside under the grapevine was perfect. We had many a lovely meal there washed down with the local wine! There are some lovely citrus trees including a kumquat tree which we used to make some lovely marmalade! The short walk to the town was only 3 minutes and we ate mostly at the large taverna in the centre. Lovely people, great service and amazing food! Overall, if you want a piece of Cretan paradise, this is where you come.”

Underbar villa med härlig uteplats under vinrankorna.
Utsikten över den stora fina poolen och de gröna bergen i bakgrunden ger lugn i själen.
Detta är ett hus att varva ned i och bara njuta.
Fint hus och härligt poolområde
Mycket trevliga ägare
Nära till några bra resturanger och har man bil så är flera stränder och byar 10-20 minuter bort.
Rekomenderas verkligen till alla som vill ha lugn och ro i underbar miljö

Super vakantie woning met schitterend uitzicht, mooi zwembad,veel privacy en toch midden in een Kretenzische dorp en
Zeer verzorgd huisje met alles erop en eraan, Valies uitpakken en de vakantie kan beginnen.
Perfecte ligging om Kreta te verkennen maar evengoed kan je de hele vakantie ter plaatse blijven.
Een drankje op het terras onder de druivelaar en je ziet alles wat Kreta te bieden heeft..zicht op het zwembad (zon en water), aan de overkant van de straat een kerkje (cultuu), en op de achtergrond de prachtige bergen (natuur).
Doordat het huisje volledig ommuurt is heb je daarbij nog alle privacy. Het kleine dorpje heeft daarenboven enkele fijne restaurantjes en enkele authentieke bars.
Een absolute aanrader.. Ik kom zeker terug!!!

Beautiful, authentic house in picturesque, Cretan village.
We had a lovely stay in Spiti Athina, we loved the large pool, the cozy village, the authenticity of the house, not too modern but nicely renovated with good taste and eye for the typical greek details. The rooms with big balconies (sleep outside though, under the stars!) are beautiful, especially the one where the bed is build in an old bread-oven!
It is perfect when the sun is setting to spend time on the big terras full of herbs and flowers, under the grapes...
Everything you need is nearby.
2 really nice, local restaurants are +- 200 meters away, where often live performances take place.
Seaside is about 3 km, nice beaches (Almirida and Kalives are the closest) with also lots of restaurant, shops and nightlife, but a bit more touristic than in the village of course.
Chania (must visit!) is more or less 30 min drive, there are also good busses if you don't have a car. Ask the bus schedule in the shops or café's of Gavalochori.
Highly recommended!

Wonderful place to sit back, relax, and enjoy Crete
- the house was neat and tidy, very welcoming (lights were lit on our arrival). The owners really have put in the work in improving the house and providing a quality stay.
- non-touristic village, in a relaxing environment, though not too far from the bigger cities in case you're interested.
- incredible view on the surrounding mountains!
- colorful plants on the terrace outside, a lemon tree in the garden, grapes growing above your head, providing cool shade
- all the necessary shops are nearby: bakery + small supermarket + cozy, romantic and tasty restaurants @300m, small supermarket @ 10min drive. Chania Airport not too far.
- internet has been provided for! No worries.
- the property is surrounded with a 2m wall and a big, wooden gate (hooray!)
- the pool water gets cleaned automatically + there's a guy coming every other day cleaning the surface with a leaf skimmer. Plus, there are lights installed for an evening swim!
- superb beaches nearby, 15min drive
We had a very nice stay here and were able to roam freely through Crete, recommended!
Perfect morning routine: wake-up, jump in the pool, breakfast in the sun, with fruits and fresh bread from nearby.

Could do better
The house is charming, but not well maintained. It is in need of a deep clean; dust balls in all the corners and under the beds, the bed linnens were stained, the towels smelly, the fridge leaked, cockroaches, you get the picture. There was no internet, despite the advert stating that there was. On our second night the roof in the downstairs bedroom started to leak...straight into the bed. Needless to say, we didn't stay and were relocated to simple functional, clean villa with help from Spiti Athena's owners. Gavalohori is a great village though, well worth a visit.

dit is werkelijk een heerlijk kretenzisch huis mèt zwembad, de nodige privacy en toch in het midden van het dorp.
volledig ommuurd, zwembad, natuurstenen tafel onder de druivelaar, kindvriendelijk en authentiek. we hebben genoten van de bbq , de buren die tomaten en eitjes kwamen brengen, de citroenen die we zo van de boom konden plukken... niet normaal !
