Fantastic place for a holiday
Stayed here last year, but just noticed I hadn't given a review. The house and ground were fantastic - spotless and beautiful. The pool was also wonderful, being beautifully clean and with no horrible chlorine as it is a saline pool (look it up!). The host could not have been more helpful and was there if you needed anything, but otherwise we were left alone to enjoy our holiday. Helpful if you like domesticated cats - there are few around!

Lovely Villa - book it!
We have just returned from a 10 day stay at Villa Amalia, and had a fantastic stay. The villa is on three levels, and is fantastic quality throughout with lots of outside space, a beautiful pool, and an astonishing view of Souda bay.
When we arrived, the owner Stavros greeted us and gave us a quick run-down on the villa, as well as providing us with a great food/drink starter pack to get us going! Stavros was always on-hand in person or available on social media, and was great support when we needed help, without being at all intrusive. The villa was really spacious and clean, with really comfortable beds and great security. WiFi was excellent and there were TVs in each room if you like that sort of thing.
The gardens around the villa are lovely, with a large bbq area and a woodfire/pizza oven. The pool was absolutely immaculate and is a salt water pool (which doesn't mean it is salty by the way but you can look that up!). This means it was much nicer to swim in than a chlorine-only pool.
It's worth mentioning that there are a few cats here and there and Stavros cares for these very well. There was one cat in particular who was very friendly indeed so if you like cats then this is the place for you..
The villa is very close to the ancient site of Aptera, which is genuinely much more interesting and with information much better presented than Knossos, Phaistos or Gortis. There is an amphitheatre, roman baths, massive roman water cisterns and an ottoman fort on the site - so make sure you visit the site if you stay.
You can stroll (admittedly a little uphill) to the town of Aptera in about 20 minutes, and there are three great tavernas there which are open pretty much 24/7. We thought the best one was the Cretan Corner, where you can eat with lovely views of the white mountains in the centre of Crete. The food and service there was amazing too!
This really is an exceptional villa, and Stavros was one of the nicest hosts you can imagine with excellent English - he was great at being on hand when you need it, but without being in the way at all.
If you have stumbled across this and are not sure then don't hesitate to book - this is an absolute gem of a villa.

Amazing villa, sensational owner
This is our second stay in Villa Amalia- after last time we didn't bother looking anywhere else. For some of our party this is the 8th visit to Crete- this is the best place we have ever stayed in Crete. The Villa is well positioned with fantastic views over Souda bay, with phenomenal facilities, on 3 levels we never felt in top of each other, sunny and shady areas can be found at all times of the day. The salt pool, barbecue and wood oven were all well used while the good wifi and air conditioning were essentials for us. As for Stavros ( the villa owner who live in a nearby identical villa) he couldn't have been more helpful with almost instantaneous resolution to any issue ( e.g. When a blind got stuck) , do not hesitate to book your holiday , you will not be disappointed in any way

Book this villa now,it is paradise.
I am sitting here over looking the bay .It truley is paradise,you will not be disappointed if you are lucky enough to stay at this beautiful villa.
We are coming to the end of a fabulous 10 day stay here.
I saw the villa advertised on trip advisor.The photos do not do justice to this amazing place.
The villa is well equipped and beautifully furnished.
The views from the villa are amazing.
There is a small windy road up to the villa from the high way.it might seem daunting at first ..but after a couple of times up and down,its a piece of cake!.
We tried the three eateries in the village ,all were very good.
We walked at night time, i would recommend you take a torch for the journey back, if you are going to walk.
Stravros the owner lives close by and is always on hand should you need anything.without being intrusive.
Thankyou Stravros for the warm welcome ,cake and rakki.
And thankyou mostly for allowing the privilege of staying in your beautiful villa.

TOP QUALITY STAY IN CHANIA AREA
we stayed for a week in June and we really enjoyed the quietness and the serenity of nature.
Stavros the proprietor who lives next door is always ready to provide tips for all the sites in the area such as the ancient Aptera and the tavernas up the hill. The view of the Souda Bay and the sunset is extra ordinary
Next time we'll take a couple of friends with us. .

About the neighborhood
Villa Amalia is located in a secluded area of Aptera village and it’s only a short distance (2,5km) from its world famous archaeological site. Its distance from Souda port and Chania town is 6km (5 min. drive) and 13km (15 min. drive) respectively. The villa is surrounded by olive trees and offers spectacular views of Souda Bay and Akrotiri peninsula throughout the year.

How to get there
Leave the airport & follow the signs to Chania till the second rotary. Take the left road leading to 'Souda'. Follow this road all the way downhill until the first set of traffic lights (IN.KA supermarket on your right). Τurn right, drive approx. 300m and then turn left, following the sign 'Rethymnon'. Keep the left lane for 500m, go under the highway bridge and exit left onto the highway. Drive approx. 6km and you will see the 'Aptera' sign on your right. Continue straight on the highway for another 400m until you see on your right hand side a small white, memorial. Exit right, on the paved, uphill road. At 500m, you will see 2 identical villas Pass the first and turn left to villa Amalia. The key is on the door
