This is a lovely traditional country house that has been beautifully restored with some modern touches. It is located near to the fishing village of Ahangama famous for its stilt fishermen, and about 30 mins from the historic town of Galle.
Whilst Coconut Grove is not on the beach it is very close to fabulous beaches and there are a never ending supply of tuk tuks that will ferry you around. But anyway everyone goes to the beach where as this house, with its tropical garden, is something different.
Jungle paradise in Sri Lanka at Coconut Grove Villa
Wonderful place to take the family! The “bungalow” is very spacious and such a beautiful place to stay with a lot of space, books, board games making it incredibly child friendly. The garden was beautiful with lots of lovely flowering trees and plants and with fruits that we could try! We even had the treat of seeing squirrels, monkeys (that don’t approach humans) and mongoose!
The highlight of this place is the staff. Kumudu and Pradeep are wonderful cooks and housekeepers and they helped us discover what we found to be the BEST of the food we tried in Sri Lanka. We tried foods we had never even heard of and we were even able to watch and learn how they cook and go shopping with them. Delcan maintains the grounds, pool and garden and keeps the estate in incredible shape.
Although not on the beach, it is only a 5 mins walk or a quick ride in a tuktuk to the larger bays.
The house is equipped with nets, mosquito plugs and Kumudu and Pradeep were willing to help with anything we asked. The baby cot is brilliant and sturdy and has mosquito nets too. You can also organise lots of visits via the concierge including massages, day trips (whale watching) and yoga classes.
Would love to return. Do not hesitate to visit Sri Lanka at this moment and contact Eden Villas to help your stay!! I have since recommended to my friends and they have not been disappointed .

Perfect
Coconut Grove is the most beautiful villa. It’s as enticing as the photos show. Everything is immaculate and the team are wonderful. I will definitely be back. The location is brilliant if travelling with kids. Walking distance to a safe swimming beach and a few minutes to a safe surf break. Enjoy ahangama and then return to your oasis of Coconut Grove. The team help with everything and the food is delicious. Highly highly recommended.

Lovely family stay at Coconut Grove
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coconut Grove. We were an extended family of 7 adults and 2 children (ages 8 & 3.5 years) and the house was a good fit for us.
Location wise – it was great. Although we didn’t necessarily need to explore Ahangama itself, we were very easily able to get about to Unawatuna, Thalpe, Galle and also down to Niwella (Dickwella area).
House – the house has 4 double bedrooms, with some larger than the others but all comfortable. The living space was lovely and comfortable and was a good spot to rest and relax in.
Pool – this was great and probably the highlight of the property. The two kids were in the pool as much as possible. The pool was well maintained, the perfect temperature and just a lovely spot to chill out and have fun in.
Staff - Kumudu, the housekeeper and cook, was very lovely and would assist us as much as possible, whether it be ordering a tuk-tuk, preparing / assisting with meals, providing us with local info, etc. She is a very kind lady who was caring to the kids and looked after us very well. Kumudu's assistant and the gardener were also very polite and just got on with maintaining the house & garden without being intrusive in anyway.

Our whole family brought in the new year (2018) at this beautiful villa, which is about a five minute walk from the nearest beach and very close to Ahangama Town. From start to finish, we had an extremely memorable stay. The villa staff, especially Kumudu, did everything they could to ensure we were happy and very well fed. Kumudu was more than happy to cook any Sri Lanka dish for us, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Her food was delicious (especially the prawn curry and coconut sambol!) and we often joined her on her trips to the fish market, to chose that evening's meal. The villa also has a BBQ area, which you can use - the gardener is more than happy to help set it up and clean it out the following day.
The pool and surrounding gardens are beautiful and very well kept. Monkeys swing from the palm trees in the morning and evenings, which is always lovely to watch. We also spotted iguanas and mongoose in the garden, along with amazing butterflies.
The rooms are lovely - three have wonderful outdoor bathrooms and one has a perfectly nice indoor bathroom. The communal areas are great and have lots of games, a TV and three very comfy sofas!
The villa is a short tuk tuk ride to many beautiful beaches; Weligama, Kabalana, Mirissa and Unawatuna. It is also only a 30-40 minute tuk tuk ride to Galle Fort, which is great for an afternoon walking around the historical fort.
Overall, we can't really fault our stay at Coconut Grove - it was the perfect place for a family holiday and one we will never forget.

Amazing
Can't recall better holidays. The 3-hour drive from the airport is well worth the relaxation. Sea turtles just a 2-minute walk, all sorts of birds, squirrels, and lizards passing by to say hello in the garden, and sleeping to the sound of the sea. Endless fun in the private pool and on the beach. Out fishing with local fishermen is definitely an experience.
Home service was perfect. The food's spice level adjusted to suit all residents. Can't imagine anything could be further done to make this anymore perfect.

Wonderful chill-out base for Sri Lanka trip
Coconut Grove more than lived up to our expectations. It's a wonderful property, a great base for a holiday in south Sri Lanka.
The house is perfect for a large family. The bedrooms are all good sizes, with part outside bathrooms for three of them. The living area is good in the evenings and the dining areas, inside and out, are lovely.
Kumudu, the housekeeper, cooks amazing meals for you - definitely choose the Sri Lankan food options. All you pay for us the ingredients (which Kumudu shops for). On the first day, this will seem like a lot but this is only because she is buying all the basics for the week. For the whole week, for seven people, I think it cost us around £170 for the food (all breakfasts, most lunches and most dinners). Note that you need to sort your own alcohol - this is easy as there are wine shops in Galle as well as beer / spirits places nearby but it is worth filling up at duty free.
Kumudu will also do all your laundry whilst you are there so you don't need to pack for the whole time.
The pool is fantastic - easy to spend the whole day there, swimming and relaxing.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet. There is a beach only five minutes walk away which is pretty, but the water clearly has strong currents so would take care with children.
It is not far from Fort Galle, Unawatuna etc. We also did the tour to the tea plantation, around 30 minutes away. For all of these, we hired a minibus (Eden Villas gave us a contact number) which was reasonably priced.
Eden Villas seemed good and responsive. We had one small issue soon after we arrived and they reacted quickly and professionally. My only small frustration with them (as with other villas in Sri Lanka) is they don't accept credit card payments which seems short-sighted to me.
Overall, a fantastic experience - really wonderful.
