Monmouthshire is on the border between England and Wales and has a diverse landscape and history. It reaches from the lower valleys of the Usk, Wye and Severn to the upper reaches of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons.
The town of Usk is famous for its lovely river walks, fishing and its beautiful flower displays. There are numerous restaurants and pubs in the town where you can enjoy excellent cuisine. Or, if you want to stay at 'home' you can find delicious local produce at the Farmers Market that is held every fortnight and in the local shops.
Being a border county there are many castles to visit and even further back in history the Romans set up camp in nearby Caerleon where a Roman Ampitheatre can still be clearly seen.
Whilst enjoying the peace and quiet of this corner of Wales you are still close enough to the capital of Wales, Cardiff to make a visit. There you can experience sporting events at the famous Millenium Stadium, 'shop 'til you drop', enjoy the nightlife or even visit Cardiff Bay with it's many restaurants and entertainments
