A large, well equipped and comfortable house in a quiet village with lovely views. A car is very useful because the village is reasonably small, but there are lovely walks from the door and the city of Carcassonne is an amazing daytrip. My kids loved...More

Nice roomy house set in a small peaceful village. You would need a car to be able to experience the surroundings eg. Carcassonne. With the pool, and outside BBQ area, everything is provided for a relaxing break. One great thing about this, is that shade...More

About the neighborhood
Peacefully situated on the edge of a 'typically French' village, with far reaching views over vineyards to the Corbières hills.

St Jean de Barrou - local village has an epicerie and regular visits from traders selling fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and clothing the central square, their arrivals announced on the village tannoy (public address) system! There are 2 wineries and a church in the village.

Durban - Corbieres - the town of Durban 6kms away, dominated by the inevitable ruined castle, is in the heart of the Corbières region, where small villages are linked by picturesque narrow, winding roads. There has been a settlement here since Roman times.

Durban has all essential amenities are close at hand, including a supermarket, petrol station, patisserie/boulangerie,...
Getting around
You will need to hire a car to stay in St Jean. Taxis can be hired locally, should you wish to leave the car at home for an evening out.

Centrally located around 45 minutes drive from Carcassone, Narbonne and Perpignan, Vive Corbieres is an pleasant drive from the local airports, well service by low-cost airlines.

The TGV high speed train now extends to Barcelona too, with a journey time of just 1 h 20 from Perpignan and of course Paris to Narbonne or Perpignan is just 4 and a half hours!

Airport: Perpignan or Carcassonne: 24.2 mi
Railway: Port La Nouvelle: 14.9 mi
From Narbonne:
• D6009 (not A9 Autoroute) to Perpignan. N
•After 15km, turn right - D611a for Portel-des-Corbières
•At the T-junction bear right towards Durban-Corbières.
•After 15km left turn (D27) for St. Jean de Barrou. Continue 6km to centre of the village - bear right signposted for Embres-et-Castelmaure.
•500m on edge of village turn left (Lottissiment) near old tennis court.
Continue on the single track road - turn sharp left hand bend which will bring you round, and up to the new part of the village. Go past the first road on the left and find ‘Vive Corbières’ on left.
Park here where access is via the side gate and steps leading up to house.

More directions can be provided on request for alternative routes.
