This is a truly lovely house, partly modernised but very Spanish and full of charm and character. We have refurbished it with style and filled it with lovely furniture, some modern and some antique, with Moroccan and Spanish influences. There is air-conditioning in all the rooms and we now have fibre optics providing 300mgb for your phones and the smart TV. The house sits in half an acre of cyprus, olive and almond trees stretching across three terraces. On the lower terrace, partly secluded by trees and shrubs, is the 9m (30ft) swimming pool with spacious stone terrace, perfect for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade. There are sun loungers and umbrellas but for most of the day there is shade in one perfect spot, under the old olive tree. We have created beautiful gardens which surround the house and the large pool. From the formal entrance garden to the stone path with pretty fountain, you will be surrounded by flowers and shrubs. The trees are mature and give much needed shade, but the oleanders, lilies and lantana lift everything with brilliant colours. The large, bright living room leads straight onto the pool terrace through the french windows and is open plan so the kitchen is at the far end, originally part of the old house but now connected. There's a comfortable 4-seater sofa, with matching chaise-long and armchair, so you can relax and watch the kiddies playing by the pool. There's air-con in the living room/kitchen and large windows making the room airy and light. Next to the kitchen area there's a large dining table which seats eight (plus high chair). The kitchen is well equipped for a large group with room to cook in comfort while others relax close by in the living area. A perfect space to watch the setting sun through the french windows and across the pool to the mountains. The view is spectacular. POOL: the 9m (30 ft) pool is very private and surrounded by a large terrace with green shrubs and trees. The whole pool area is south facing and gets loads of sun, it's always a big hit with guests who often hurry back from trips to relax here until dusk. There are sun loungers, plus two tables and umbrella, with a shady area under the generous olive tree. FOUR BEDROOMS (all with aircon): There are two large L-shaped bedroom suites, both with a curtained area for privacy, both with ensuite bathrooms. Bedroom Suite 1: leads off the living room, it is bright and airy and sleeps a couple and two kiddies. Bedroom Suite 2: features french windows leading into the private back garden, this is at the back of the house and has two patios for relaxing in the sun or shade. Both bedroom suites have room for a couple and one or two children, there's also a cot for baby (optional). Bedroom 3: is a double, it's next to the house bathroom. Bedroom 4: overlooks the pool with large curtained windows for privacy - here there's a single bed with an option for another single. The house sleeps 10 comfortably, or even 12 with some sharing, eg. 3 or 4 young children sharing with Mum and Dad or grandparents in one of the large L-shaped suites. The five single beds (option for an extra bed) have good mattresses and the double and two queen-size beds are in good shape. All the bedrooms have air-conditioning but there are also several fans. BATHROOMS (3) We have good plumbing with extractor fans or windows in the bathrooms. All the bathrooms have been renovated in the last few years and are modern and easy to keep clean. We make sure everything is spotless for your arrival and can provide cleaning services if required during your stay. GARDENS: There are several garden areas starting with the entrance gravel garden with paths and fountain, the pool is surrounded by gardens and finally there's a large very private back garden accessed from the kitchen and also via the french windows in bedroom suite 2. For a large group this means people can relax in different spaces and have some privacy or quiet time away from the kiddies. DISCOUNT: The house is suitable for two families or a large group of close friends, we can at a stretch sleep 12, but if you are a family or group of six or less, make this clear and we will offer you a 10% reduction. Un sitio estupendo, con mucho encanto

Fuimos una familia de 9 personas. La casa tiene muchas camas y es espaciosa y limpia. Además a pesar de haber ido en agosto, no era nada calurosa. No tiene aire acondicionado, pero con los ventiladores era suficiente. El paisaje maravilloso, muy aislado, para desconectar a tope. Casa muy bien equipada, con una decoración con mucho detalle. Tina, la dueña, muy atenta con todo lo que pudiéramos necesitar. No está lejos del pueblo, para ir a comprar hay muchos supermercados. Quizá lo único que podría decir es que la piscina tenía demasiado cloro. Pero la casa es recomendable 100%

Relax en Órgiva

Tina, una discreta y amable anfitriona nos recibió en su casa, un remanso de tranquilidad y silencio a las afueras de Órgiva. Ella vive en otra zona de la misma edificación pero su presencia resulta casi imperceptible. Un paraje escondido, con mucha privacidad, y una luminosa casa de aspecto tradicional pero llena de modernidad, detalles elegantes y elementos prácticos. Mucho espacio interior y más aún exterior. El calor de julio fue sofocado en la gran piscina y los frondosos jardines, aunque no tanto en alguna de las habitaciones q son interiores e intercomunicadas, lo q no proporcionó la privacidad y ventilación deseadas a algunos de nosotros. El precio fue contenido, pero es preciso comentar que ascendió justo en el momento de la reserva por la alta demanda tras el fin del estado de alarma por el covid19. Además, el portal web con el que se gestionó el alquiler funcionó de forma claramente mejorable... No obstante, en conjunto, no falló la intuición que promovió la elección de esta casa y finalmente nos vimos recompensados por unas veladas íntimas bajo un cielo asombrosamente estrellado y rodeados de una exuberante vegetación cual si de oasis se tratara. Esperamos regresar, muchas gracias, Tina! See you soon!

A delightful place for a family reunion

We had good vibes about our stay from the start with our delightful host who gave us, before our holiday, excellent information on the facilities at this wonderful villa including clear and concise instructions on how to reach Cortijo Caliz. Much care has been taken by Rita, the owner to make our holiday an enjoyable and memorable experience. Rita greeted us warmly when we arrived and showed us round the villa and beautiful gardens. Waiting for us in the kitchen was a generous welcome pack of food, beers and wine including fruit and milk, snacks and bread. It needs to be mentioned that the kitchen is very well equipped including olive oil, spices, stock cubes and all the little things that make life easier when you're on holiday! We were a party of 8 including a baby of 8 months and the villa is extremely spacious so we were not on top of each other - exactly the opposite - a really fascinating and interesting property. There are plenty of books and games also. The outside area is very extensive with wonderful gardens and a stunning pool. Plenty of shady areas for those hot days and a large terrace with plenty of seating and a large table for eating meals together. It is in a good location to visit fascinating Granada, the Sierra Nevada, the town of Lanjaron and the white villages and of course the coast. I have taken numerous photos and am looking forward to painting some watercolours! Rita is a very friendly yet discrete host who has put a lot of time and effort into making this a wonderful place to stay. Many thanks

Wonderful pool in rural countryside

Booked this spacious, comfortable Spanish home for family and friends to come together for a two week holiday. The house is located a few minutes drive outside of Orgiva and accessed by a single track, tarmac road nestled amongst a few other homes in the Andalusia country side. The gardens are very well maintained with a pathway around the house leading down to the 'gem' of the property, the pool! It is a fantastic size, great for our party of eight with an outdoor shower with hot water! We purchased inflatables from the local hardware store which increased the fun for our family! There is plenty of shade when needed, provided by the lush planting in the garden. We were met on our arrival by Tina, the owner who lives in the adjoining property. A thoughtful and delicious welcome pack was provided to help us settle in. The house has a large living area, well equipped kitchen and large outside terrace for mealtime gatherings! The layout enabled everyone to have their own individual space when required.Tina has added some lovely accessories to the house to create a 'homely' feel with lighting, books and even sunhats! The house ticked all the boxes for us, we had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday in beautiful surroundings! P.S. Had the most fantastic view of the Lunar Eclipse from the master bedroom terrace!

Absolutely Brilliant

We had an absolutely fantastic family holiday here this summer. Fabulous location, and extremely well appointed, comfortable and spacious house, and a lovely well cared for garden. Orgiva is five minutes away, and has everything you need, the mountain scenery is stunning. Tina is a brilliant host and will make sure you have everything you need whilst keeping a low profile - we hardly knew she was there. We'd love to return one day, it's exactly the sort of place we love, and for the money you won't find anything better.

Deceptively luxurious elegant but kid friendly country house - with WiFi and Pool

We had a good feeling about this place when we booked it. We weren't disappointed. A couple of weeks before we came we got an email from Tina confirming the travel arrangements and letting us know what the facilities were. On arrival we walked through the cool manicured gardens leading up to the house. She was there to briefly greet us and had prepared a welcome pack so we could have lunch and a swim before heading into town. The house is large and airy, and full of stylish, comfy furniture. It's well equipped with a big fireplace, really good beds, WIFI, large TV with English channels and heaps of hot water. That didn't really matter to us because we essentially lived outside,on the veranda outside the kitchen or down by the beautiful pool (where there was another hot shower.) We could pick ripe figs and almonds from the trees, and spend evenings watching the geckos stalking their prey! Ours was a break for two families, but this would also be a perfect house for a more sophisticated group of friends to gather, for a birthday or other celebration. It's huge, so there no danger of people feeling cramped, but so well appointed that it would be a pleasure to gather in the large central main living space in cooler evenings - maybe with a fire! The house is a short drive to ORGIVA where there are plenty of small supermarkets and cafes. It is about 30 minutes to a selection of beaches and other mountain towns and well placed for day trips to Granada or Malaga. If you come to this part of Spain make sure you rent an automatic car for the mountain roads. You won't regret it.

Lovely place but we didn't get the privacy we expected from a private rental .

Nice villa lovely views , but we didn't get the privacy we expected from a private rental, that we normally do, owner a delightful person , lived 3 ft from bedroom , we woke up to sound of domesticity. The owner walked past our bedroom windows , the pool , dining patio , and gardens to their car , handyman was often visible , and dogs were next to ho. Barking was annoying at times ! Great for a family but we wanted a romantic 3 weeks in total seclusion , enjoyed , but was disappointed in lack of privacy , sorry , never book a villa where owners live close by again , not for us , but don't let this review put u off .

I'm so sorry our villa disappointed. We'll take your comments on board and will make some adjustments, we've never had this issue before but clearly things were less than perfect for you two. We constantly try to improve what's on offer here, but we are in the countryside which is sometimes a bit less than peaceful!

Una casa acogedora y auténtica para descansar en las Alpujarras.

El Cortijo Cáliz es un lugar perfecto para ir a conocer las Alpujarras. Está en las afueras de Orjiva, en un lugar con unas vistas preciosas. La casa está totalmente equipada. La cocina es muy agradable...y no le falta un perejil!!. Tina nos atendió genial. Su casa está al lado de la nuestra pero totalmente separada. Las habitaciones de la casa son muy cómodas y casi todas tienen su baño privado. Aunque estuvimos en diciembre el clima era fantástico. Casi daban ganas de meterse en la piscina. Los exteriores de la casa son muy cómodos también, para comer y tomar el sol. Sin duda una de las mejores casas de alquiler de vacaciones en la que hemos estado. Gracias Tina!

Captivating Cortijo Caliz

Just back from a wonderful week in the hills near Orgiva...stunning villa, with everything we needed and the support of Tina who owns this little slice of paradise...Travelled up after week in Nerja with our teens who had a chilled time after their exams...perfect pool, bbq, kitchen, beautiful bedrooms and stunning vistas of the mountains...Great area to sit outside/dine shaded which was needed in the hot sun...Recommend biking in the hills, Granada, Thursday Orgiva market, Le Molino bar for drinks and food and taking winding roads up to wonderful high mountain white villages ...a future starting point for a walking holiday in a cooler month...it was a very enjoyable holiday.

Perfect views and pool

Five of us spent a delightful week relaxing here in a very hot July. The pool is superb and an old olive tree provides shade if you have done with baking in the sun. The views of the mountains are amazing. A car is essential (with aircon in summer) to reach the place, go shopping for provisions in nearby Orgiva - excellent butchers and bakers as well as two supermarkets - and up into the Alpujarras for some superb walking as well as a day's visit to the Alhambra in Granada. The owner, Tuna, is very friendly and happy to provide advice and help if needed; she lives in an annex at the side of the property with her cats and dogs. She keeps the property spotless and was there to welcome us when we arrived.

About the neighborhood

Orgiva is in the Alpujarra Valley which is an area natural beauty. We are 35 mins drive from the Costa Del Sol, the nearest beach is at Motril. There are many beautiful beaches and interesting resorts including Almunecar (Jazz Fesival in mid July) La Herradura, and Nerja which has several beaches.Orgiva itself is a charming working/market town with all the necessary amenities including supermarkets, banks and a hospital. There are many bars and restaurants and the towns central Plaza really buzzes at night, so theres plenty to do until the early hours, including two discos. he three highest villages in Spain are half an hours drive from Orgiva, Capill is one of Spains prettiest villages. There is horse riding, hang gliding and bikes for hire
