Villa
Las Alegrias is a spacious Spanish cortijo with large garden, parking for at least 6 cars and private pool. Caroline and David stay here regularly therefore the house is full of quality, comfortable furniture and an extensively equipped kitchen with granite work tops. A Webber BBQ and large terrace with dining table seating 10 complete an easy to enjoy holiday home. Wifi and Internet, with booster, maintain easy satellite communication. The choice of five bedrooms and five bath and/or shower rooms make life even easier.
Team Alegrias maintain the property year round, and is always available for emergencies. The private, walled, gated, secluded swimming pool is secure for children and sparkles with cleanliness. The garden is laid to grass at the rear with hammock and swing chair to a...

Glorious in every respect
We spend a couple of weeks here at the end of May and beginning of June. Before I go on, if you like the Costas, give it a miss. The place is a converted farmhouse which lends it a somewhat idiosyncratic charm, set as it is within olive and ornage groves but within an easy walk to the village of Orgiva. The house lies in a cleft between the mountains of the Sierra Nevada (to the north) and the Contraviesa to the south and the views are breathtaking - dining on the patio is a joy.
There is more than enough well-appointed and comfortable accommodation for a party of up to 8 - with many extras.
In addition, there are numerous extra facilities including books, music and pool and the house is in stupendous well-planned and mature gardens, tended by the ever-helpful, but unobstrusive Sergio.
Orgiva is a bustling working town, which adds to the charm. It has more than its fair share of excellent bars, cafes and restaurants and there is a proper (not tourist) market once a week. A little further afield up in the hills is a collection of white Andalusian villages - well worth the visit.
Ideal for a couple of weeks of relaxation and therapy!

Idyllic, comfortable farmhouse
We have never been to this region of Spain before but a week in this charming farmhouse has ensured that we will be re visiting.
It is ideally placed, being only half an hour from Granada and just over an hour from Marbella, both airports having regular flights. You will need a car as there’s is much to explore and if you really want to go the coast (though we found that unnecessary).
The farmhouse itself is very comfortable with plenty of space and bathrooms. A well equipped kitchen and plenty of options for outdoor dining.
The pool is gated which is ideal if you have young children and there are stunning views of the mountains from poolside and the dining terrace.
Although there is no aircon there are plenty of fans and honestly we didn’t even need those at night. As you are so high up in the mountains there’s is a lovely cooling breeze even on the hottest days.
We visited the Thursday market in Órgiva which is only a short walk from our base. It was a good market with plenty of fresh produce. We then had beer and tapas at a local inn.
One day we did a walk down to the river and through a eucalyptus grove and past orchards of olives, citrus and avocados.
A drive further up the mountain brings you to charming whitewashed villages where we had an excellent lunch.
We will be booking in the autumn and flying in to Granada so we can visit the Alhambra and then have a week at Las Alegrias. And hopefully next year getting the whole family out (10!) for a week.
This place is ideal for either being a real tourist or just chilling out.

We are delighted that you are coming back in the autumn, it is a special time of year as the sun is glorious, the sky electric blue and the temperature perfect for walking and exploring. I'm pretty certain you flew into Malaga though, which is a 90 km drive to Orgiva, whereas Marbella is quite some distance further along the coast. Flying into Granada is much closer, only 35 km from the airport to Las Alegrias. We look forward to making your next stay equally comfortable. David and Caroline

Driving Over Lemons
It was very difficult to leave this place at the end of our week away!
Each night before dinner we sat on the patio watching the sky change with a Gn'T made with lemons, straight off the tree, plus olives and almonds from the local Thursday market in town.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday with a good balance of relaxation, book reading, swimming in the pool, eating delicious meals in the mountain towns and walking it off in the local town and hillsides. The herb garden was a great tough as we used plenty of fresh herbs in our cooking and ate freshly squeezed orange juice from the tree in the garden.
Our 2 year old enjoyed the wildlife, including the hoopoe (sp) birds nesting in the tree at the far end of the garden. Wonderful to watch.

Beautiful villa, stunning location. Chill out holiday. Driving distance to Granada. Campsite bar short walk, nice friendly bar staff. Orgiva Town 5 mins drive with several bars and free tapas.

About the neighborhood
The Alpujarra region of Andalucia lies just south from Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountains. The highest ranges in Spain with excellent ski slopes. The Alpujarran pueblos blancos (white villages) are some of the most beautiful in Spain. Orgiva is a 35 km drive from Granada, a vibrant city famous for the Alhambra Palace.
Orgiva is the market town of the Alpujarras. It is surrounded by these wonderful mountains with spectacular views. A bustling town with numerous food shops, restaurants and tapas bars.
Getting around
Car is easiest. There are buses from Orgiva town to Granada and the coast. Granada is 30 kms and so is the coast.

How to get there
From Malaga Airport it is about 90 kms and the drive takes max 90 minutes.
Hiring cars at Malaga is easy on line, and you don't need a 4-wheel drive unless you intend to go off-piste into the mountains. All Tarmac roads are very good. The small single track road to our house is concreted.
Granada Airport is a 40 minute drive should it be easier for you. However we have found it is considerably more expensive to fly into Granada.
