Far Cry is a family retreat set in the heart of Sri Lanka's rural landscape, an escape from the bustle of city life. Bordered by a forest and a lake, the property is situated at the periphery of a village, preserving the sanctity of the traditional way of village life. The minimalist structure of the villa intended to keep guests as close to nature as possible, with magnificent views from every window. Sleeping accommodation is located on the upper floor and can cater to eight in comfort. It comprises of: A large air -conditioned insect-proofed family room with an en suite bathroom leading to a private covered balcony. The room has a queen sized bed that sleeps two, while two single beds can be used inside the room, or on the balcony. The room is furnished with a fitted desk and wardrobe. A large roofed deck room with open sides, leading to a viewpoint balcony – Four single berths are provided here, and occupants are served by a large common bathroom on the ground floor. The deck room doubles up as a spacious lounge during the daytime. Guests are kindly informed that sleeping on the balcony or the deck is intended for the enjoyment of a safe outdoor experience, which will include seasonal wind or rain, and the sounds of the crickets, owls and other nocturnal fauna. All rooms have panoramic views of the surrounding forest canopy affording great opportunities for bird watching and photography. Neighbouring Ritigala can be seen from the deck. Mosquito nets and ceiling fans are provided in all sleeping areas, while traditional palali (cane blinds) are used extensively for shade and protection from the elements when required. The ground floor comprises a large living and dining area which is open to the garden and the forest. Cool cement floors and minimalist furniture complemented by comfortable multipurpose canvas chairs create a campsite ambience in the most civilized fashion. You can enjoy your meals in the dining area watching the antics of birds, or lounge around over tea or drinks in the living area just enjoying a view of the manicured lawn and the surrounding forest. The two spacious tiled bathrooms are equipped with all modern conveniences such as rain bath showers and quality bathware. Solar heated hot water is available on tap. Other Things To Note.... Our 10'x14' plunge pool and outdoor showers are intended for guests to cool off in hot weather. We provide all linen, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Do note that any breakages or damage will be chargeable. Far Cry is not a self catering facility due to the need for a rigorous waste management regime in the wilderness. We have a resident cook and meal supplements can be pre-ordered on a half board or breakfast only basis. Please ask for details. In the interests of conserving precious water, we change towels and linen after 3 days. Please help us in this endeavour. Cleaning and tidying of guest accomodation and bathrooms will only be performed on request. Otherwise, staff will not access guest accomodation, except for specific urgent maintenance work, with guest permission. Wi-Fi is unavailable at present due to service provider coverage issues, Please consider purchasing a tourist data plan at he airport from a local internet service provider to enjoy inexpensive internet access during your holiday. However, if you have activated roaming on your phone, the 3G signal near and in the villa is adequate for e-mails, though not for browsing the internet. A first aid kit and stationery are available, please ask the bungalow keeper. Unless we let you know otherwise check in time is 2.00 pm, and check out time is 10.00 am. A vehicle is highly recommended for guests since public transport and taxis are not easily available. Vehicles can however be booked In advance for transfers or local excursions. Guests should not expect to walk to cycle to the nearest town, which is 4km away, for reasons of safety. The villa is accessed across a 4 km stretch of forest road, and guests are advised to avoid travelling this stretch between 6 pm and 6 am. This access road is very poorly surfaced and is ideally traversed by a van or SUV though a saloon car can negotiate it slowly. At some times of the year guests may experience mosquitoes, flies and other winged insects - usually during extremely wet or dry periods, or during harvest time. This is to be expected in rural forest settings such as Far Cry, and our staff and facilities are geared to minimize inconvenience. Please ask the bungalow keeper for a contact card which provides contact details for some useful local service providers such as safari operators, police, hospitals etc. Guests can access all areas of the villa and the garden, with the exception of the pantry and the storage areas which are reserved for staff use. Far Cry is not a self catering facility.

Tree house glamping
Far Cry was a beautiful start to our Sri Lanka trip. The place, a way outside Dambulla, was not quiet but was peaceful at night, with frogs croaking, birds calling to each others and fireflies shooting around the tree. The property has a great indoors area to sleep in with air-con or outside beds to lie on. Yohann was incredibly helpful arranging a number of tours and drivers for us, making planning so much simpler. Key things to note: Take mosquito spray - the place is in the wilderness, there are mosquitos. If you're sleeping outside, ask the guys to put up fly nets. Things to see: Sigyria rock Dambulla temple Birdwatching at the local lake (again Yohann arranged a local guide for us) In short, a fantastic stay.

Hideaway in Habarana
Spent two nights. We wanted to just chill out and relax. This was exactly the place. A bungalow surrounded by jungle growth with walks weaving around several ponds. Isolated from everything silent except for the cry of peacocks jet black night lighted by fireflies. Comfortable room. Toiletries provided. Tea making facility available. Staff was polite and reserved. Food was simple but tasty. Traditional Sri Lankan cooking which was tasty by our local standards too. Lots of reading provided readers digest etc. Suited our taste. Board games provided too. Be ready for power cuts which slightly marred our fist evening as generator didn’t work. But lamps were provided. Pool was nice and clean. A walk around the garden lead to the nearby tank. Our favorite spot was the bench under the huge tree.

Wonderful place to stay, fantastic hosts!
Our family of two adults and two teen age kids have just had the best 4 nights at this lovely place! Sampath and Chamara couldn’t have treated us any better, the home cooked meals were delicious and every breakfast and dinner we had something different, the only decision we had to make was the time! Loved the area, so much to see and do Elephant Jeep Safari, Sigiriya, Hotel Kandalama Heritance for swim and lunch and the walks around the lake fantastic. The wildlife is amazing. The rest of our stay in Sri Lanka was great but we all agreed we had the best time at Far Cry! Thanks Sampath you are a wonderful host.

PERFECT GETAWAY!
I went with my good friend Hasulie, for a mini vacation during the weekend. We were super hungry and tired by the time we reached our destination. A tasty dinner was prepared for us! Which was just heavenly! The room was super neat and comfortable but most of all NO BUGS!! We had a quick dip in the pool, which was super relaxing and walked around the premises. It was nice to have trees all around and to hear birds chirping. It was the perfect get away! Wish I had stayed a bit longer though :( The staff was extremely helpful and polite. Please Keep up the excellent quality of service and standard! 👍 I'm Planning to visit with my family! :)

Peaceful, relaxing and unique
Absolutely fabulous. Lived up to expectations and the good reviews. Very warm welcome. Great service from the staff. Fab plunge pool to cool down in after a day out. Lovely rural location, great to escape the tourist treadmill. Food is fab, perhaps a little pricey, but so delicious and it's quite special having a personal chef! The open air sleeping deck is a unique experience, and worth booking for this alone. Would come again and would recommend to others.

Beautifull house with pool in which you are taken care off.
Far Cry lies a little remote (15-20 min from main road) but provides a unique house with pool. House looks even better at night (as the photo shows). The surrounding is peaceful and green. Staff is very helpful and prepares terrific meals. You will feel home from the first moment.

Wonderful accommodation, superb setting
We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the Cultural Triangle. Although it is a little way out of town it was prefect, the most wonderful setting and close to nature. Yohann, the owner was incredibly helpful and was available to help organise tours and transfers. The staff at the house were very friendly and cooked the most amazing Sri Lankan meals for us. Truly some of the best food we have had in Sri Lanka! Amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I can highly recommend it!

Idyllic home away from home with Mother Nature ...!
We were visiting from Singapore and our stay at Far Cry was absolutely fantastic. The bungalow blends so well with its natural surroundings and has all the creature comforts offered with discreetness, class and a deep harmony with the natural beauty of it's surroundings. Shanta and his colleague were excellent and we are very grateful for the way they looked after us. Thank you Yohan and Manjari for the opportunity to experience such a wonderful place! - Naomi, Dilky, Sharon, Amanda, Liz and Siraj

Heaven on earth
Second visit of us for 2 days. Wish I could have stayed longer. One of the best nature retreats I have ever stayed. Cant beat the taste of Shantha's food, the cook, care taker...etc. one of the nicest human beings ever met. Will visit soon again. And Thank you Yohann for maintaining the true essence of the place.

Great place to stay for the cultural triangle
This is a bit out of Habarana so make sure you print out the map, our tax driver wasn't totally sure where it was. But what a great place to end up. Very private on a very large property, there is a caretaker and a chef who provided us with great meals every night. It was a great pleasure to come home every evening to a meal of a very high standard in such a rural setting. Take your own alcohol but the staff are more than happy to put it on ice and look after you. Owner was great with communication.

About the neighborhood
If you tire of just “chilling” at Far Cry the region around Habarana and Far Cry offers many attractions. The more energetic could make excursions to the ancient monastic complex of Ritigala , the Minneriya and Kaudulla National parks for elephant and bird watching, The Sigiriya Rock, The Dambulla Cave Temple , the Ruined Cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, or even the old Port City of Trincomalee. There are many other places of historical and natural interest in the Cultural Triangle within easy reach.
