This villa is simply perfect. Clean, spacious, cool (thankfully!), well equipped and suited our needs perfectly. A fully stocked first aid cabinet, fly guards on all the windows and doors, dish washer tablets, washing powder, tea, coffee, beach towels, even a couple of lilos for the pool (and a pump so that we could blow up our own).
Aristides (the owner) has really thought of everything and seems to genuinely want visitors to enjoy his property, and not stress! We stayed for 10 days, and in that time the villa was cleaned twice, and the bedding and towels changed each time too. The pool was cleaned every other day, and was a perfect size and depth for us (although possibly a little deep for less confident small swimmers).
Although there are a couple of tavernas and a beautiful beach within walking distance, the temperatures (in excess of 35 degrees most days) made the walk back up the hill very uninviting, so we drove each day. The local beach (Kaminia) was our absolute favourite. Clear water, beautiful sand, not too busy, but with somewhere to buy ice creams and drinks. Parking was free and easy, right on the beach and literally only a few minutes from the villa.
We ate out at several local restaurants - in Skala and Katelios, and didn't have a bad meal once. Not too pricey - in the region of 90 euros for five of us to have drinks, a main course and a pudding. All the locals were genuinely so helpful and friendly and we never felt like "just tourists". There also seems to be hardly any crime, with my daughter's ipod being handed in to a shop owner after she lost it.
Only down side was the small earthquake we experienced (although Aristides had taken care to tell us that the villa is earthquake proof - this was very reassuring at 5am!), and the fact that we didn't see any turtles on the beach. However, we had an extra day at the end of the holiday and spent it in Argostoli and the turtles were very much in evidence in the harbour!
We hadn't been to Kefalonia before, and didn't know what to expect - but we will definitely be back, and hopefully to stay in the same villa.
