This luxurious, comfortable, spacious modern villa, designed by a student of the famous architect Geoffrey Bawa is set in a secluded lush tropical garden with a private swimming pool in a quiet residential area in the village of Unawatuna. The villa has been designed with 'keeping cool' in mind in this hot climate. The high ceilings and many french doors from all rooms ensure a constant cooling air flow throughout the villa. The villa is tastefully decorated with a mix of Sri Lankan antiques and modern furniture. All bedrooms are en-suite with hot water showers, have comfortable beds with mosquito nets and good quality bed linen. There are 2 bedrooms with double beds and one bedroom with two single beds. All rooms have Air Conditioning and fans. There is also a cot and highchair available. Being one of the most biodiverse countries in the world the garden contains amazing palm, mango, papaya, araliya, avacado trees and boasts many different types of heliconias. The garden is frequently visited by interesting wildlife such as monkeys, different types of lizards, squirrels and many species of birds such as parakeets, paradise flycatchers, humming birds, kingfishers and the odd peacock. The villa is approximately 3 minutes walk from the beautiful beach of Unawatuna which is safe for swimming or a 5 minute tuk tuk ride away from the quiet beaches of Dalawella and Talpe. Check with the locals to see where it is safe to swim at these beaches. A significant place of interest nearby includes the UNESCO World Heritage site of Galle which is 4km away from Shalini Villa. If you wish to go further afield (45 mins drive via new highway) and are a garden lover you may enjoy visiting Geoffrey Bawa's house and garden 'Lunuganga' or his brother's house and garden - 'Brief Garden'. Other enjoyable things you may like to do are body surfing or whale/dolphin watching at Mirissa beach, releasing a baby turtle into the indian ocean from the turtle farm at Habaraduwa, surfing, snorkelling or shipwreck diving in the aqua marine waters of Unawatuna, taking a catamaran trip on the scenic lakes at Koggala and visiting Cinnamon island, visiting nearby buddhist temples, taking a yoga class or relaxing massage in Unawatuna, hiring a bicycle and cycling inland amongst the paddy fields admiring the gorgeous views or you may just want to relax in the peaceful and tranquil surroundings of the villa. There is a chef at the Villa to cook your meals for you if you wish for a small fee. Just buy all the ingredients. Or if you want to cook yourselves the Villa has a fully equipped modern kitchen. Alternatively you could try the many restaurants in Unawatuna, Dellawella, Talpe or Galle. There is a housekeeper at the Villa that comes daily and takes care of cleaning and gardening. Babysitting can be arranged if needed. The villa can be rented as a small yoga retreat venue. It is fully equiped with yoga mats, bolsters, blocks, bricks and belts. We can arrange airport transfers and also recommend a travel agent if you would like to go on a tour of Sri Lanka. Find Unawatuna Villas on FlipKey More

Shalini Villa is a beautiful property and a very well thought-out space. Outdoor ceiling fans mean you can sit outside day and night and keep cool and not be bitten by mosquitos. The rooms are lovely with very comfortable beds and good wi-fi throughout. Outdoors is equally as beautiful and a good use of space with lots of seating areas. There is lots of wildlife in the garden including peacocks and several monkeys who came and took bananas off us each day. Unawatuna is a short walk away with its beautiful beaches, some lovely bars and restaurants - The Riddim being a personal favourite for good food, drink and vibes. If you are a looking for a good massage then The Sanctuary Spa is a must! Dami and Kami are wonderful and always on hand but without being intrusive. Dami is a wonderful chef and gave us a cooking lesson one night which was very enjoyable. We also felt completely safe at all times with them always on hand and night security there when they had left. They also were very helpful calling tuk tuk drivers and taxi drivers they recommended, and even helped organise a trip to dog sanctuary Animal SOS Sri Lanka which is around 20 minutes away (and definitely worth visiting to see the amazing work they do.) Alison was also available at all times via email to answer any queries. We can’t wait to return.

Our family of four including 2 teenage children stayed at this villa for 4 nights and it was absolutely perfect. Plenty of space for everyone and peace and quiet but only a few minutes walk to the beach and nearby restaurants. The house and the garden are beautiful and the pool is lovely. The bus to and from Galle stops right at the end of the road so easy for day trips. The day staff are very helpful and there is security at night. I would be happy to recommend this to families and small groups.

Amazing Villa. Very Cool inside. Tastefully furnished and very well equipped. So well looked after and maintained. Stayed over Christmas with my 2 teenage boys. 13 yrs and 15yrs. Alison the owner very helpful from moment I booked. Comes with house keeper Kamindika and chef Dammika. Such lovely people. They put up Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree up.Which made it a little special. They even washed my self drive Tuk Tuk that I had hired. Dammika always on hand to rustle up breakfast. Even when the teenage boys got up late. Very helpful with the local knowledge. When my youngest was to tired to go out of the evening felt very safe and comfortable leaving him at villa to chill out. Only a short Tuk Tuk to Unawatuna and Jungle Beach, 15 minutes from Galle. A brilliant base to explore the beaches in the south. A little oasis of calm back too. if you are looking to rent in this area you can't go wrong with Shalini Villa. Had a very memorable stay.

Shalini Villa is an ideal location, away from the busy road with every amenity you would require. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The pool is perfect and so safe for kids. The rooms are comfortable and cool. I could not recommend this villa enough for anyone thinking of travelling to Unawatuna or the Galle area. Thank you for everything.

This has been my second stay at Shalini Villa. It’s such a little gem just moments from the beach and I highly recommend it to anyone. The house is stylish and comfortable and the garden is really lush and exotic. There are different lounging areas so you can always find a shady spot and there are fans everywhere which is great. The staff are on standby to supply coffees, fresh juice and delicious meals. Make sure to try a Sri Lankan breakfast! Next time in the country we’re definitely factoring in a slightly longer stay at Shalini.

I stayed here for a week in March for a yoga retreat, it was absolutely fantastic. The villa is lovely - huge, nicely furnished bedrooms and bathrooms, a large lounge (perfect for yoga!) and a lovely space to eat outside. The garden was very relaxing, beautiful sounds of wildlife permeated our yoga practice, and the pool just perfect for cooling off. The food, cooked by the in-house chef was fantastic. Our party had a variety of dietary restrictions which were catered for with the most delicious breakfasts and dinners including hoppers, curries (vegetarian and fish), fresh fruits and coconut pancakes. Location was great, a short walk (or even shorter tuk tuk ride) to the beach and town of Unawatuna. Lots of good places to eat nearby and not too far from the surf beaches or town of Galle.

The location of Shalini villa is great, it`s just a few minutes from the beach and some great restaurants. The owner (Alison) and housekeeper (Kamindika) were absolutely amazing throughout the whole process of booking and staying. The villa is extremely well kept, spacious and it felt like a safe haven throughout our stay there. Highly recommended!

My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights at Shalini villa. We had a really lovely time. It's a very spacious, private, well resourced and very relaxing villa. Other reviews have already mentioned how lovely this villa is, so I won't repeat them. The house keeper (Kamindika) and in-house chef (Dammika) are amazing! No request was too much for them. For example, on day 2, Kamindika popped out after breakfast to exchange cash for us and returned promptly with the local currency and receipt. Dammika took the time to understand the types of food we liked and incorporated these into the absolutely delicious dinners and breakfasts - the best we had in our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka!! He even made us homemade crisps to nibble on during the day as we lounged by the pool! They also sourced all our drinks and food shopping (with receipts), all we had to do was reimburse them each morning. The staff are very quiet in going about their business and provide such privacy that we often forgot that they were around. One point that I'd like to mention is that the doors in the communal areas of the villa (i.e. not the bedrooms) are designed with open wooden slats that enable good air circulation, keeping the place cool even when the doors are closed. These open slats raise the concern of mosquitoes but the staff mitigate this well by putting out mosquito coils every evening. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Tip - if at any point you find that the hot water tap is running cold water, just ask the staff to turn the hot water on.

Stayed with two teenage kids, my wife and in-laws. The villa was a fantastic size (4 x double bedrooms) with a great open plan living/kitchen area opening out to the garden and pool area. When we arrived my daughter asked how many other families were staying there it was so spacious. Our 4th trip to Unawatuna and better than the resorts we previously stayed at. The staff were fantastic, make sure you try the dhal and garlic prawns. Fresh fruit, bacon, eggs and toast every morning was the perfect start to the day. Would recommend to anyone visiting Unawatuna.

We are lucky enough to have just returned from a 12 night stay over Christmas & New Year at this beautiful villa. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to stay. The photos of this stunning villa do not do it justice. It is so lovely, spacious and airy. The 3 bedrooms are gorgeous, huge beds with such sumptuous mattresses (our girls remarked they felt like they from ‘The Princess & the Pea...’, crisp, white bed linen and super showers. The gardens are a pleasure, we saw much wildlife passing through - monkeys, squirrels, monitor lizards and a kingfisher came daily to practice its diving over the pool. The proximity to beaches is excellent, and we had the great luxury of having the choice of meals cooked for us by the chef, which were wonderful, or eating out at the many local restaurants. Both the housekeeper & chef were very helpful & friendly & we would like to relay our utmost thanks to them both for helping to make our Srl Lankan holiday so special. We can’t wait to return!
