One never tired of the view from the house towards the beach and the ocean. The bedrooms, bathrooms and showers were of a high standard commensurate with the style of the whole place. The staff were attentive, polite and welcoming. The catering was excellent and very flexible - adjusting to the needs of the young children, the teenagers (e.g. early dinners and late breakfasts), and all the adults' special requests. This was a three generation family gathering, and it was impossible to think of anything that could be improved. All requests for Tuk-tuks to get us to the local town and beaches were handled very efficiently.

Claughton House and it’s wonderful team of staff have made our family holiday, to celebrate our parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, truly magical. The house is really something special, as are the gardens and all the wildlife that call it home. The staff have thought of everything, treating us all with such warmth and kindness, and the food has been exceptional, thank you Chef Ajith! The pool has kept us all entertained for hours and it’s position overlooking the ocean is the stuff dreams are made of. Having direct access to the beach (which we swam in daily) has been a highlight too along with all the tuk-tuk rides to other local beaches. I could go on and on! We will remember this trip for a lifetime. Thank you.

Claughton House is a magical place. An architectural gem with incredible views and direct access to a surf beach. The villa manager Ajith is a fabulous cook and runs a team of wonderful staff. We absolutely loved it and will be back. It's a perfect spot.

The house passed the most basic test - beautiful in the good photographs on the website, but much more stunning in reality. Even better than the house, the team at Claughton are really exceptional. Ajith is very professional and produced the best food we had while we were on the island - much better than either of the Amans.

An extraordinary Bawa-designed villa with absolutely stunning views of a coconut plantation and the beach beyond. The food is phenomenal - seriously the best I have experienced in any Sri Lankan villa (ask for a BBQ). Wonderful pool where you just want to stay all day. Direct access to the beach where we went for a beautiful walk at sunset. Can't recommend Claughton House highly enough.

I wanted to thank you all for a such a wonderful trip to Sri Lanka and a superb experience at Claughton House. My family and I were part of a bigger group that stayed at CH for 10 days and it was utterly gorgeous. I’ve been lucky enough to go to Sri Lanka a few times on holiday and it has always been a fantastic experience but I have to say that Claughton was a different league to anywhere else we have stayed. The house, pool, gardens and location are extraordinary and it’s hard to imagine a better place to spend time in Sri Lanka. The staff, brilliantly led by Ajith, were exceptional, and special mention to Anil who worked extremely hard throughout the visit. All the staff could not have been more helpful, friendly, kind, attentive and endlessly patient with the constant requests for tea, coffee, juices and a few stronger drinks! The meals were superb and the team worked hard to ensure we had delicious food each and every meal, also taking on board suggestions and requests for particular meals. Coming back to the UK and having my coffee and toast this morning has been a big come down from the magnificent breakfasts we enjoyed each morning at Claughton. The cultural experiences were thoroughly enjoyable and a fascinating opportunity to learn more about the Singhalese and Tamil cultures. It was great to be there over new year and have the chance to learn about the local traditions. The new year banquet laid on by Ajith, Anil and the team was breath-taking, and utterly delicious. Thanks also for dealing with the myriad requests and questions in the build up to, and during, the trip. All the travel and transfers worked seamlessly and the drivers you kindly provided were always on time, safe and careful. We all know Sri Lanka is facing some serious difficulties at the moment but there's no doubt such a wonderful country and people will come back even stronger. We had a simply glorious trip to this fabulous country and a huge thanks to all of you for making it such a terrific experience

Our stay at Claughton House was truly happy and completely spoiling. The house was a wonderful space, and the staff SO gentle, kind and meticulous. You can’t beat the location and swimming pool! Please pass on our thanks to all the team, and that we hope to be back.

Claughton House is astonishing. The setting, on a bluff overlooking the wide expanse of sandy Kudawella beach to one side and the Indian Ocean beyond a large garden planted with coconut palm, is incomparable. The house provides cool breezes and wide views as well as privacy thanks to the beautifully thought out arrangement of rooms and open spaces. The large staff keeps the place immaculate and the guests pampered with every comfort imaginable. The meals that are cooked by Ajith to order rank with the best Sri Lankan food I’ve ever had. The swimming pool is magnificent and seems to melt into the blue ocean beyond.

It's difficult to get a true sense of the magnificence of the place from the photos. For fans of Jeffrey Bawa, staying in this house is a unique treat; little Easter eggs scattered in every corner from the design of the pool, the shape of the gardens, to little features around the house. Lovingly maintained in the spirit it was designed, it just pleases the soul! Ajith and all his team take wonderful care of your every need and are so friendly and clearly dedicated to this special house... anything you could like is anticipated before you've thought of it (the food and drinks are too good, actually). The location is ideal, immersed in secluded nature with your own surf beach but a short tuk tuk ride from Hiriketiya and Dickwella buzzing with bars and restaurants. The exceptional sunrise gives you a reason to get up early and enjoy all the house has to offer. Cannot overemphasise the specialness of this place enough. As usual, Eden Villas manage everything about your trip in the easiest, most efficient manner possible.

Claughton House has got even better , a new pool area and a redecorated interior . The House itself is perfectly placed above a wonderful beach and the staff are as good as ever , led by the top chef Agith …i would recommend it to anyone .
