Great Mountain to visit
Nice place to visit. I had great times in the Forest. It natural environment perfect for rejuvenate. I will go again. The staff are great. Especially my tour guide Zeff. The all inclusive food was delicious. The water lake in the middle of the compound is awesome. I will go again when time permits.

Lot´s to improve
You can read the other reviews, the plusses are the great environment, the friendly staff and the romance of the place. The activiteit were a laugh indeed... fishing 1/5, Mountain bikes 0/5 NONE functioned even remotely as a bike, ... nonetheless it´s a niet but way to expensive place... the hard Rain on the metal roof of thecabin wasn´t a plus for the price of the hut.

Don't come if you are a traveler and not a tourist.
We had a pretty interesting stay at Magoroto. We liked some things but we also had many issues that made us not enjoy our stay so much.
Firstly I would like to say that the place is beautiful, the setting is peaceful and the sceneries are pretty.
The staff is generally friendly and tries to help you in many ways, which we appreciated.
At the beginning we were given a Lakeview Cabin at the same price of the cottage (for 135$/night with fullboard and activities) which was really nice!
As said before, thoug, we had several issues with the cabins. The first cabin had a huge ant infestation (see pictures attached) and we had ants walking over us in the bed at night. Plus that night it rained so we couldn't sleep well at all. That's because the roof is built with metal so when it rains or fruits fall on it, it makes super loud noises (like somebody is playing drums on top of your head). The second cabin they moved us to had rats instead. At night they were active and running around the room, popping everywhere and eating our belongings (food, flip-flops, shirts, toothpaste - see pictures attached). Now we understand that the place is located in the jungle and there's tons of animals, that's fine. We've been in many places in the jungle before. The thing that really disturbed us was that the day after, speaking to our guide, we learned that the staff knew already before moving us to the cabin (the number 1) that it was infested with rats. So why did they move us there? Pretty insane and disrespectful. The next night we were moved to a third cabin which didn't have problems but that night there was a wedding at the camp so they were playing loud music until 2am. Unfortunately, for the third night in a row, we couldn't sleep well. So basically 3 out of 4 nights were really really bad.
The food was pretty mediocre even if in great quantity. I would rate the different meals as follows: Breakfast 3/10, Lunch 7/10, Dinner 5/10. Lunch was definitely the best.
When we booked they asked us our dietary restrictions and we said that we prefer to eat vegetarian. Unfortunately it was a bit hard to get them to understand that but they got it at the last day. Maybe a bit late...
Also the timings of the meals were pretty random. It said certain times on the board but then they would start an hour later or end the meal earlier than scheduled.
Another thing we had issue with was the guide they assigned to us. He kept throwing trash in the camp and on the trail when we went for hikes. It really disturbed us because we love the environment and hate who pollutes it. This place is all about nature, environment and respect of animals (they have signs all over the property) but then their guides are doing exactly the opposite of what they say. Really really disappointing. We had to ditch the guy on our day 3 and got anothet one that was great instead (his name is Malik).
Another thing I didn't appreciate was that there were no bikes available. They advertise everywhere that you can do mountain biking but when we visited all bikes were broken and they weren't able to fix them! Pretty disappointing since I'm an avid biker and I was really counting on that.
At the end of the day the "activities" you could do were hiking and float on the lake on some locally made wooden boats. If I was the owner/manager I wouldn't even mention "fishing" as one of the activities because it is kinda ridiculous to give people bamboo stick with a little fishing line tight at the end of them. If you wanna fish bring your own rod.
In general this place felt like it was made for city people who have never seen nature or stayed in the jungle. For them for sure it would be incredible to stay here for a night. But we traveled the world and seen lots of places even much wilder than this. So, if you are a "traveler" and not a "tourist" don't come here.
The prices are also pretty insane. They charge 4-star hotels prices but then the service doesn't match at all. Also they should have better deals for couples who are sharing a cabin. Prices don't make much sense.

Dear Paolo,
We deeply apologize for the incoveniences during your stay. It’s at the core of our values to ensure that every guest has a lovely unforgettable experience during their stay at Magoroto Forest.
We took note of all the issues raised and have worked on them since then.
On the cabins we regret the experience with ants and rats. We have taken measures to control the food left overs (snacks) that people bring into the cabins as these usually tend to attract the ants and rats into the cabins. This has indeed helped to sort this problem.
On the activities we have done a number of improvements also, we have added a new set of proper Mountain Bikes available for rental use. These are well maintained and always available for use.
We’ve also added a new set of fibre boats that are much more comfortable and easy to use with on the lake.
We’ve also re-worked our pricing for couples to make it more accommodative. We promise that these were one time events and have taken so much efforts to make sure none of the incidences re-occur. We look forward and hope to host you again in the near future.

Not what we expected
Magorotto forest is a really nice place with a cool vibe but lack of organisation. After paying 180 USD for 2 persons one night in a cabin, we were put in a cabin that was not ready for our arrival. The bed was not prepared, and no towels provided. After our first night we woke up with no power, something that can happen in Tanzania. They moved us to another cabin where we had no wather the next morning. The local guides are very capable and friendly.
In my opinion not worth the money and a lack of organisation. Unfortunately because the place is very beautiful.

Hello Matias,
We deeply regret your experience and our lack of ensuring your smooth check in.
We had a problem with our power supply that usually affects water as well since it is motorized. However, we've not gotten a bigger standbt generator and this ensures power and water supply at all times.
Towels are all provided for and we ensure our guests have a smooth stay.
We thank you for your review and promised that all these have been worked on. We look to hosting you at another time.

Great weekend getaway from Dar!
A stones throw from Dar, just a 5 hour drive, and we were in the lush usambala forest. A quaint historical house to stay in, we enjoyed the grounds... even did some yoga and were joined by the monkeys. The lake area is very chill, you can take a dip or just relax in one of the hammocks. Food is plentiful and we got to enjoy many local delicacies. If you’re looking for a spot to unwind, and perhaps do some hikes (check out the waterfall it’s beautiful!) don’t think twice. I hope to visit again soon!

Not what we expected
This place is nice if you come with the right expectations. First, the road going to the camp is horrible. You need a 4-wheel drive car which is high enough to avoid the huge rocks on the road and to be able to drive safely up and down the steep, narrow dirt road (took us about 1 hour from Muheza). Secondly, the tents around the lake are placed immediately next to each other, with maximum 1 meter in between. If you don't value privacy, this is your place! We booked the "private camp site", situated a few meters away from the lake, but for some reason the tent(s) were not prepared there. I have to say, the staff tried their utmost to rectify the situation and quickly prepared a tent and gave my 75 year old mother a little A-shaped hut / house. In the tents you are provided with mattresses (mine was old and thin, my kids got a new and good one) and blankets and a sheet for the mattress. No sheet for under the blanket, my daughter woke up with about 10 flea (?) bites. Also no towels, though the staff were nice enough to bring some when I asked. Then the bathrooms...our "private bathroom" was under construction (why do this in the high Christmas season, I wonder?), so there were few bathrooms available for all guests. Showering is with a bucket of hot water. Everything gets muddy but staff do an amazing job to keep the bathrooms clean 24/7.
The lake is lovely, as well as the surroundings. We did a nice hike to the view point and the water fall and a boat ride on the lake. By the side of the lake are plenty of places to sit, hang out, relax. The food is typically Tanzanian, buffet style, nothing spectacular. Fresh juices are lovely and again the staff is very helpfull and all smiles most of the time. When I was 18 I probably would have loved this place: music, camp fire etc. But I was looking for something quiet, private and clean. For us not a recommendation, but come with the right expectations and you might love it.

Wish i could stay longer
The four days i spent in Magoroto were not enough. I wish i had more days to explore the area. The staff were welcoming. I am not going to forget Haji, Fred and Kevoo. Doris too made it easier for me. Mchechu and his family were that perfect host and sometimes i forgot he was the owner.
Mlinga hike wasn’t for the fainted hearted. If you are looking for a hiking challenge while in Magoroto, try it out. Then pass by the village afterwards for a drink, a local brew called mnazi is just perfect after mlinga.
The water falls and lake activities were also nice. Without forgetting mountain biking and other shortest treks around. I enjoyed every moment of my experience. I loved the fact that i was disconnected from the world.
If you are runner, don’t forget to take that run with Freddy.

The best hospitality!
My friends and I had the most amazing stay at Magoroto. We felt so welcomed as soon as we arrived and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming. They also took great care of our driver too. Thank you so much Andrew, Matthias and Freddy for looking after us during our stay, we had an amazing time!
We loved the lake side location, swimming in the lake and boats. There were many places to relax around the lake too.
The food was great, every meal was a buffet and they had enough vegetarian options too.
We loved the bonfire in the evening.
Just beware of the 12km road from Muheza up to the estate. It was steep and rough!
