Katie's cottage is a typical Skye croft house. It was built in the early 1900's. Back then it cost £10 and three hogs to build and the stone mason would not get his daily payment if he did not complete a full course of stones for that day. The stones for the walls were quarried from the hills at the back of the cottage and brought on site using the Glendale community horse. Certainly different times! In 2009 Katie's cottage was completely stripped down to the bare walls and fully renovated during 2009/2010. The inside is cosy and welcoming with soft colours and natural materials like stone and wood. Both gable ends have exposed stone walls which add to the period character of the property. Downstairs you will find a spacious open plan living area with sitting area and kitchen/dining area. To the back of the property is an extension which houses a separate utility room and a spacious bathroom. The downstairs floors are finished with beautiful cream coloured natural slate. Via a beautiful, hand made, ash staircase -the ash was sourced from a local tree which was struck by lightning- one gets access to the upstairs area of the cottage. A mezzanine style landing gives access to two bedrooms: one double bedroom and one twin bedroom.More

We arrived late tired and cold. And what a pleasant surprise to find a warm and very clean cottage which we felt at home immediately. Fabulous bathroom and shower. Defiantly recommend staying here, and a bonus right next door to a fab restaurant.

We booked this cottage primarily because it was dog friendly and in close proximity to Three Chimneys restaurant which we had booked for lunch. It was a great choice. The cottage itself was spotless and the under-floor heating made for a lovely warm welcome from...More

About the neighborhood
Glendale is a tiny village in the north-west of Skye. The views are dominated by the great glen and the mighty MacLeod's tables. In the direct vicinity you will find Dunvegan Castle and castle gardens, the seat of the famous clan MacLeod, the Coral Beaches, Neist Point and its typical lighthouse and Orbost beach. The property is a 5 minute drive from the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant. Local shops and restaurants are available in both Glendale and Dunvegan. The island capital Portree is 25 miles, roughly 40 minutes by car.
Getting around
In order to get to see the island, a car is recommended. In case you're travelling via Inverness airport, you can arrange for a hire car there. Other airports like Glasgow and Edinburgh also provide car rental services. The tourist business is a dynamic thing on Skye. Your best bet for up to date information on activities is to search the internet and make your reservations online as soon as possible.
