My wife and I found this tranquil base to explore the Burgundy countryside, nearby Beaune, Dijon and the (do not miss) Abbey Fontenay. Lyon was an easy and scenic drive onwards.
M & Mme de Rocuigny have done a beautiful job renovating the house, once an abbey property. It’s full of beautiful details: exposed timbers, elegant furniture, a tower, wood fireplace, good bathrooms and a lovely garden. It all felt special and good value. The continental breakfast, featuring home baked bread and home made jams, was tasty and substantial. Wifi was fast and signal good (though naturally it dropped in one or two corners).
Our hosts have lived in the area for many years and had great tips for excursions and local sites, none of which were very far. We had our new baby in tow and they could not have been more welcoming or thoughtful. We had a wonderful family room, complete with all manner of baby paraphenalia. And though early bedtime meant no dinners out, we borrowed plates and cutlery and had lovely picnics in the garden at the end of the day. They even sent us a toy we left behind. In spite of that one less excuse to go back, we will certainly return.
