PLEASE NOTE: $175 nightly rental is for 2, $15/person for each additional person. In addition to seeing some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, while visiting Yosemite, you make hike, swim, fish, or rent a raft for a lazy float on the Merced River in the Valley. You can also white-water raft in the Merced River Canyon, or take a rock climbing lesson. Mariposa is the southern end of the Sierra Gold Country and has a History museum, and the State Mineral Exhibit. Historic downtown Mariposa offers shopping, restaurants, and wine tasting. Our cottage is an 80 area property. The cottage, our home, the caretaker cottage, and the vineyard are on a 14 acre parcel that is fenced in with a seven foot deer fence. We live on a paved County road 1/4 mile off Highway 140, the all weather entrance into the Park. When you leave our cottage to go to Yosemite, this highway takes you through the Merced River Canyon; where, depending on the season, you will see white water rafters, raging waters, beautiful fields of wild flowers, or lovely fall color. Yosemite's beauty can be seen in the towering granite cliffs, the spectacular waterfalls, the giant Sequoia and Ponderosa, and fields of wild flowers. When you visit the Valley, you may want to use the free shuttle buses to see all of the Valley sights. You can get off to walk to the base of Yosemite or Bridal Veil Falls, or hike up to Vernal and Nevada Falls. The Valley has Park Ranger programs, a museum, bookstore, and the Ansel Adams Gallery. The Village Store is a grocery and variety store. Numerous food services are available from fine-dining at the Ahwahnee Dining Room to cafeterias at the Yosemite Lodge and Curry Village. Since the Valley is a small part of a Park that is approximately the size of the state of Rhode Island, you may want to visit Glacier Point, the Wawona Hotel, or and the Merced Grove. If time allows, you can drive into the High Country. Take a picnic lunch, and drive to Glacier Point for a spectacular view of the Valley, Half Dome, and the towering peaks in the Back Country. Or you may drive up to Crane Flat and take the Tioga Pass Road, stopping at the various turnouts to see the northern part of the Park, and enjoy a picnic. You can stop at Tenaya Lake to enjoy the view while you picnic, sunbath, and swim in the icy cold lake. Tuolumne Meadows has limited food service, wonderful meadows to explore, and you may even want to dine at Tuolumne Lodge before returning to your retreat in the vineyard. If you take a drive toward Glacier Point or Tuolumne, you will find many hiking trails. We have 6 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and 1 acre of Sangiovese wine grapes. We are not a bonded winery, but sell our grapes. We keep a small amount of grapes to make our own wine. Our grapes have been used to make gold-medal-winning wines in the price range of $15 to $45. If we are home during your stay (we usually will be), we would love to take you on a 'tour' of our vineyard. If you chose to spend time locally, we have many interesting sights to visit. The California State Mineral Exhibit is a great stop to see some truly beautiful minerals. The Mariposa History Museum has a changing exhibit of the interior of 49er stores and houses. There is a gold-stamp mill that was used to crush gold ore, the first step in refining the ore. A tour of the County Courthouse, the oldest in California, is great fun. You can go gold panning, wine tasting, ride a zip line, or play golf. Historic downtown Mariposa offers gift shops, and numerous restaurants including California Cusine, Mexican, Chinese, Pizza, a Sports Bar, and more. There is also an excellent Health Food Store and Restaurant. You can spend some time at your cottage, relaxing under the Cedar tree, on the porch, or the deck. You can spend hours watching the Hummingbirds and Orioles feeding More

Gorgeous comfortable, convenient cottage
We used it as our base for Yosemite for two days - very convenient. The cottage was so comfortable and beautifully appointed, we were wanting for nothing. The hosts were both incredibly welcoming and helpful - we loved the scones on arrival, and the recommendations on what to do in the park and around the area! There was a very friendly cat who came and joined us when we were sitting out on the deck. Our two nights here were the best we had over our three weeks in the USA, we didn't want to leave.

Extremely helpful host
Due to forest fires we were unable to come to the cottage. Cliff, the owner was extremely helpful, responding quickly to our concerns and giving us good advice. We were so disappointed that we were not able to visit but are really looking forward to coming another time.

We are so sorry we didn’t get to meet you. This fire was poorly managed by the U. S. Forest Service. They finally began fighting it aggressively. We hope you will be able to visit Yosemite in the near future.

Beautiful cottage in a peaceful location
A fabulous cottage in a quiet location close to amenities in Mariposa, within easy reach of Yosemite . The owners Cliff and Mary-Lou were extremely friendly and welcoming and provided us with useful information about visiting Yosemite valley. They provided many extras including homemade scones and wine, and an ice box and picnic blankets for our days out. Recommend this lovely place.

Cute cottage
The Cottage was comfortable for us and our 2 adult kids. It is located in a beautiful setting with good local restaurants near by. We used this location while visiting Yeosmite, it is about 45 minutes to the park gates. The only downside is no air conditioning. Fans helped but it was a hot night sleep.

We sometimes forget to remind guests to open all of the windows. No matter how hot we get breeze in the afternoon. The nights get quite cool, most guest say they have to pull up a blanket in the middle of the night.

Beautiful cottage
We had a great 3 night stay in this beautiful situated, well-furnished and spacious cottage. On arrival it was exceptionally clean and there was a bottle of wine and scones waiting for us which was a nice surprise. We had lovely evenings sitting on the deck overlooking the vineyard beteeen days spent in the national park (around an hour's easy drive away). Stores, gas and facilities just a few minutes from the cottage in Mariposa. A great experience; highly recommended.

Beautiful Cottage
Five members of my family had a wonderful time staying in this cottage in the Sierra-Nevada foothills. Our intent was to have a jumping off point for a backcountry trip to Yosemite. It was perfect. Cliff was a wonderful host. The cottage was extremely clean and comfortable. The best parts were the little surprises of breakfast muffins and wine from the vineyard where the cottage is located. It's a bit of a drive to the best parts of Yosemite, but so much better than staying in a large, impersonal motel. It is close to good restaurants in Mariposa, which we appreciated. We were able to take advantage of day hiking for a couple of days and were well rested for our trip into the back country.

Unable to stay! Will rebook
Due to the wildfires in the area we were unable to make it to the cottage. The owner kept us apprised of the situation and was very honest about the inability to forecast conditions on the day we were booked to arrive. We had an 8 hour drive and had our two grandchildren with us so he advised us not to attempt it as the town was at risk of being evacuated. We are looking forward to re-booking later in the year.

We were so sorry you were able to stay in our cottage as booked. You were very patient with us, and understanding of the situation. We were very fortunate the fire came no closer than 8 miles to us. However, all residents on our road were evacuated for almost 6 days. We hope you are able to re-book in the future.

Beautiful cottage close to Yosemite
It is really hard to put into words what a magical place this little spot is. The owners welcomed us with banana nut bread, berries, and wine. The cottage is very comfortable, and the amenities so cute. There is a hummingbird feeder off the back deck with at least 9 hummingbirds that visit. There are beautiful flowers including rose bushes in the front. The back deck also has grapes growing. The cottage is on the land occupied by a vineyard. It is quiet, and we wish we had a day just to hang out there. Mariposa is a cute and historical little town. We will definitely look to come back for a longer period of time.

Peaceful home away from home near Yosemite
My husband and two teenagers really enjoyed our 3-day stay! The spacious cottage was a wonderful place to relax following a day hiking and sightseeing at Yosemite. The owners, Mary Lou and Cliff were super friendly and helpful. In fact, when our daughter had to stay behind one day due to illness, they checked in on her to make sure she was doing well. It was great having a fully-equipped kitchen for making quick breakfasts, for packing lunches to bring to the park, and for making dinners to enjoy on the deck overlooking the lovely fruit trees and vineyards. Note that there is no AC, but if you keep the shades pulled during the day and open the windows in the evening, the fans will cool the place down quite well and you will sleep like a baby! Wi-fi worked well, which really comes in handy after being "off the grid" all day at Yosemite. The town of Mariposa is a quick drive if you'd like to go out to dinner or pick up groceries, etc. It takes about 1 hour to drive to the Yosemite valley from the cottage, but it is a pleasant and scenic drive.

We were so happy to have you stay with us. We really enjoyed meeting all of you. We hope the rest of your trip was great. The cottage does not have Air Conditioning as our listing shows. We lived in the cottage for 18 months while we were building our home, and found we did not need it. The nights are always cool, usually during the night you will find you need a light blanket.
