Spring Break
What an awesome Spring Break Adventure. The Shuck house was everything we hoped for. Ok day 1 we fished, played in the river, canoed, swam in the hot tub, grilled over the fire and even saved room for s’mores. Day 2 we did Luray caverns, the maze and the rope course. We came back and were able to do more fishing. If you plan to fish we had the most luck with the fly spinner for the small mouth bass. Day 3 we hiked 3.5 miles to Kennedy’s Peak Trial easy for our kids “10&13”, arrive early because the parking fills up quick. Limited wifi access which was nice the kids had to play outside and running around and couldn’t try to stay on electronics. The owner was great, answered any questions we had quickly. You will not be disappointed with the shuck.

Good Times
Cabin was awesome had everything you needed right there. Kitchen was stocked with all your cooking utensil needs. River was short walk from the cabin. Deer traveled all around the cabin. Beautiful mountain view from the porch. I will definitely be going back again, and would recommend this cabin for anyone looking to relax and have a good time! Thank you for sharing the "Shuck"!

Relaxing, comfortable stay!
We had just a few short days to get a way for vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Shuck. Unfortunately, due to the time of year, the river was flowing a little too fast so we couldn't take the canoe out or catch any fish. It would be fun to come back in the summer to enjoy the canoe and river more. The cabin itself was very nice - clean and well kept. The road leading to the cabin is very bumpy so you need to drive slow! Very pretty scenery throughout. Eugene was very attentive with getting back to me with any questions I had for him. I would highly recommend this very cute cabin for anyone looking to come to Luray!

Great home/location
Pictures don’t do the cabin or property justice. Location is far enough away but close enough to some great hiking, eateries and shopping; the zoo, the caverns and Walmart. The cabin was great for the 5 of us. 3 queen beds...very comfy and new. Great open floor plan. My teen son loved the loft. The property has great views of the meadows, mountains and the river. Would highly recommend this cabin!

Relaxing and beautiful vacation spot
We needed a quiet weekend and this was the perfect choice. A very well built, well appointed, and well kept cabin along a river's edge. Plenty of space to stretch out and relax, both in the cabin and on the property. Great view of the valley out the front windows, and great views from the porch, too. Met the owner, who was working nearby, and he's a really nice guy. We will definitely be back again.

Amazing family getaway
We absolutely LOVED staying at the Shuck! Great views and lots of space for our family to enjoy a relaxing week! We enjoyed the river very much. Our boys loved tubing on the water and playing on the river bank. The cabin is well kept and extremely clean. The view of the stars at night was phenomenal. We’ve already talked about planning another trip.

" A Perfect Getaway"
The Shuck was great, quite and located on a small windy road . Gene was great in responding to all my questions. Because of the dirt road we suggest an SUV or 4 wheel drive vehicle to drive there. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and looking at the deer and other wildlife around us. Friendly people walk on the small road and drive golf carts in front of the Shuck, we also enjoyed a night of stargazing and explore the city of Luray, people of the town were pleasant and friendly. Has a small grill and a fire pit with local stores that have firewood to purchase . It is walking distance to the river located behind the house . The property was maintained well and very clean with all amenities that were needed to cook in the kitchen. Anytime we are in Virginia we will be looking to stay there again.

Midwinter relaxation on the Shenandoah
What a delightful vacation spot! We had to cancel a Blue Ridge trip last fall, so decided to look a bit closer to home for a winter getaway--and found this gem of a cabin right on the Shenandoah River north of Luray. Thoroughly modern and thoughtfully equipped for comfortable escapes--no roughing it here! There are several caverns and museums located nearby that are open year-round; other outdoor activities were limited by the cold (ice on the river), but we enjoyed s'mores by the firepit, and saw a bald eagle in the back yard. Amenities inside included a fully-equipped kitchen, Jacuzzi in the upper bath next to the loft bedroom, and very comfortable sofas for reading or watching TV/DVD in front of the gas fireplace. A very nice marriage of style and function! We hope to visit again when we can sample some river floating and fishing.

Beautiful, quiet getaway
My wife and I stayed here for our 13th anniversary weekend in Luray and the surrounding area. The cabin is close to all the wonderful beauty of the area as well as many fantastic restaurants and activities. It made for a terrific "home base" from which we could go play in the mountains. The cabin itself is beautiful. It's very well-maintained, comfy, and was even decorated for the season. I had a question upon arrival (no fault of Gene's--my own inability to use TripAdvisor) and they responded very quickly. Tip: phone/data reception is spotty in the area. Consider unplugging and grabbing a few paper maps/travel guides for the trip.
