This Mindo house was the BEST rental location we experienced after spending over a month in Ecuador, and out of a dozen other rentals. A few things that should be emphasized:
Hot water! Most rentals in Ecuador and most hotels and hostals say they have 'agua caliente' but most mean water that is not cold, and some even mean during specific hours. This house has very hot water, and lots of it, and even enough to comfortably take a bath in the lovely tile tub in the master bathroom.
Quality house construction in the wilderness. You will find lots of fantastic wildlife outside and on the property with the creek on the property, birds and even watusi. If you go out at night with flashlights you can find some great insect life. Somehow, we never had any of those insects get in the house, despite the eco-wood construction and the fact that the house feels very much integrated with the outside and wildlife.
The viewpoint 'Mirador'. This gazebo on the property had six hammocks. Even better, when we hung out there in the early morning or evening, we had no problem seeing 50 different types of birds and hearing even more. We saw many more birds from the mirador steps away from the house than we did over a week in the Amazonia.
Hike to the waterfalls. A true highlight is when we were lucky enough
to get a guided hike by Fernando to the nearest couple waterfalls. It was truly a jungle trek with beautiful flora and fauna and refreshing waterfalls.
We were a little worried on our first drive out to the property as it is truly off the beaten path. You cross Mindo river and the rocky road even crosses a stream of water running over the 'road'. Only on later trips did we realize that the rough and creek-crossed rocky road is really just a half-hour walk to town, and about as good as other roads outside of Mindo. I didn't like the town of Mindo that much, but this property was really nice, large, clean and close to the butterfly farm and rock wall, waterfalls, and Fernando and Marjorie were very high service hosts.
