Take a tour of the historic Castle Odelscalchi. A timetable of the tour times is posted outside the ticket office next to the entrance in Piazza Mazzini. In addition to the castle explore the narrow winding roads of the historic centre and other places of interest including the Churches Saint Maria Novella and Saint Stefano with their famous frescos and art.
During July and August every year the townhall puts on a series of events called ‘L’estate sotto le stelle’ which means the summer under the stars, events include concerts, plays, craft markets, fairs and more…. The calander of events is usually advertised around town shortly beforehand.
You won’t have experienced Bracciano if you don’t spend time at the lake! Whether you want to relax in the sun and get a tan, swim or eat lunch at one of the restaurants on the front spending time at the lake is a wonderful way to spend your holiday. There are also many water sports available to do on the lake: Canoes, Pedal boats and rowing boats are available to rent and there are also sailing clubs around the lake which provide lessons and hire boats and wind surf boards. You could also take a boat tour to the other towns around the lake. The boat leaves from the end of the lake front at 15:00, 16:30 and 18:00 throughout the summer stopping at Angiulara and Trevigniano
The lake and surrounding panoramic countryside, hills and forests make the area perfect for many other activities such as walking and cycling, you can hire bikes from www.randotrek.com by the day or for a week with free delivery to the apartment and you can also book off road mountain bike tours of the countryside surrounding Bracciano and other towns nearby.
The Aviation museum at Vigna di Valle is just outside Bracciano heading towards Anguillara. It was Italy’s first water airport founded in 1977 and is now an important aviation museum noted for it’s collection of planes through the ages, many of which are military aircraft and an exhibition dedicated to ‘Nobile’ the famous Italian Artic explorer. Entrance is to the museum is free!
Just outside Bracciano heading towards Trevigniano you will find San Liberato which is open to the public for tours of the 9th century church and beautiful English style gardens designed around the grounds of the Villa by Russell Page in 1965.
