Gamla Pósthúsið (the old post house) was originally constructed in 1952 and was an active Post Office until the end of 2008. Gamla Pósthúsið is open 10 months of the year and conveniently located in the centre of Sauðárkrókur, (opposite the church), with only short walking distance to bakery, restaurants, museum and harbour. The self catering studio apartments are recently renovated, each with private bathroom and kitchen. Fruit, bread, yogurt, milk, and juice were waiting. Very nice touch. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Vicki was on site for explanations.

The apartment is clean and spacious and the hostess was very kind and welcoming. She had a variety of breakfast food for us to enjoy in the morning. Could not have been better!

The apartment is large for a 1 bedroom, and is very tastefully and minimally decorated. The unit is very clean, and the appliances are new. The hospitable owner, Vicki, who lives in the building's second floor, made everything very easy, and kindly stocks the kitchen...More

Sauðárkrókur is about 290 km, a scenic 3 hr drive from Reykjavik. Situated in the northwest of Iceland Sauðárkrókur is the largest town in the Skagafjörður region. A short detour from the main ring road will bring you to this quiet fishing village with a population of nearly 3,000. The town of Sauðárkrókur is centrally located to many of the main attractions in the Skagafjörður area and nearby districts.
