Got a little more time? Why not take the family on a drive around the island. Hawaii is the most diverse of all the Hawaiian islands. You will never get bored! I recommend a convertible if you can all fit. It's the best way to experience all the sensations of the place, the breeze, the fragrances, the stars. Convertible! Either way you will have a blast driving along Highway 250. You are above the clouds looking down on the Pacific. Bring a sweater because the altitude makes it a totally different experience from what you would expect in Hawaii. Think Switzerland with sandy beaches and volcanic rock!
Have an extra day or two? You can not miss the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! On the way home you will want to stop at the waterfalls along the way. Or South Point. Or the black sand beaches. The views are spectacular the whole way!
Kolea is located between the Marriott Waikoloa Beach Hotel and the Hilton Waikoloa Hotel, and near the Kings Shops, and newly opened Queens Shops. Fine dining, and shopping abounds. Free entertainment and family activities, such as ukulele contests and hula lessons, are an almost daily feature at the Kings shops: be sure to pick up a calendar upon arrival. Two championship golf courses are a short drive away.

About the neighborhood
This is the best community on the Kohala Coast. We are the only complex to have direct beach access, an easy short walk to shopping of only 5 to 8 minutes, and great access to events at the Marriott (2 minute walk) and Hilton (10 minute walk). The property is also adjacent to two world class PGA golf courses and I have a membership that extends to my guests. That means you can save about $100 per person per round. Your entire group can play and there are no limits on how much you can play. This rate includes a golf cart. I also have many amenities that are available to my guests such as golf clubs, beach gear, baby gear like high chairs and pack and plays and so on. Guests love our home and we hope we can share it with you too.
Getting around
The Big Island of Hawaii is exactly that. It is very Big and you will want to get a rental car so you can tour around and see all the sites. There are fabulous beachs all up and down the Kohala Coast that we highly recommend. You can drive up to the top of Mauna Kea and do the star gazing tour. Polulu Lookout and Waipio Valley are also about 1 to 2 hours away. You will also want to do a day trip to Volcanoes National Park. Plan on getting a car. If you need help on saving money on a car please let me know.

How to get there
Airport: Kona: 18.6 mi
The best way to get to Kolea and around Hawaii is to rent a car. You are going to want a car to explore this marvelous island. Once you get the car drive out of the rental car facility to the road leading to the airport. Take a left and drive to the main Highway 19 and drive north up the coast 20 miles to Waikoloa Beach Resort. At the single for Waikoloa Beach Resort turn left into the resort. Drive thru the resort past the Marriott. Kolea is the first left after the Marriot.
