from top of stairs to kitchen - cathedral ceilings
this cutting board was a real challenge to bring up, we had to remove the stairs and lift!
the frig isn't in the middle of the dining room any more, I have to get a new snap!
evening is our favorite: cooking smells, some wine, the fireplace ...
upstairs with a cedar chest my husband built from scratch for blankets
the downstairs twin bedroom with some toys the grandchildren wanted to leave for children
an office with futon
we have modernized again, but the wood detailing is from the original carpenter.
another guest photo, with fresh eyes she wanted to capture how peaceful our house is ...
woods are all around, grab some firewood on the way back for the pit.
fire pit looking out over the end of the mountaintop on the way to the grapes

Webster Springs, West Virginia
The cabin (called a ''camp'' in the mountains) was lovingly hand-crafted from 26 kinds of timber by a master carpenter/hippie. They had their first child in the only building a barn at a time when many city dwellers were fleeing suburbs. Fly fish the fabulous Elk River and its back fork then come back to your stunning mountain cabin to crystal clean air and the best-tasting spring water on earth, and mountain-top views set within a gorgeous hardwood forest on 18 acres with no fencing. Lumber companies conveniently left a great 1 mile gravel road from the main highway 15 an...

About the neighborhood
Antiquing, hiking, hunting and visiting all the festivals (every town has one each summer), live music ... West Virginians will take a walk looking for ramps and ginseng and you can too.

Helvecia, a Swiss town, and Elkins, which has a well known music and art school, are attractions. Camping and riding the rail roads or sking at Snow Shoe Resort ... but at least reserve some time for hanging out on the porch swing and taking a nap. The guests talk about the quiet and sleeping in the cool ...
