In addition, the property has 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to explore). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest. The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well appointed kitchen, wireless internet, 2 televisions with satellite TV and DVD players, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking. The sunroom has seating for dining or board games with a full view of the stream so you can enjoy the outdoors even in inclement weather. This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds with additional options of the living room pull-out and sun porch (the latter in warm months or for the polar bears in your group). For fall or early spring visits, the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a modest amount of firewood is provided). In winter months, be prepared for snowy and/or icy road conditions by driving a 4WD or suitable vehicle. Note that we are now requiring 4WD for winter rental. Having chains for your car in the trunk is another good option. It's advisable whenever driving in wintry conditions in the mountains of WV as the roads are often hazardous. At times the snow can be deep and it takes 24-48 hours before it is plowed, therefore you should be prepared to be flexible about travel. The cabin is remote, so even in clear weather its narrow mountain gravel road can be concerning to those not experienced. Depending on whether the road crew has done repairs recently there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be a few on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. The gravel is not suitable for street motorcycles. Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. The river is about a 5 minute walk across the property from the house. There is no vehicular traffic allowed off the driveway. Pet friendly -- dogs only please, and no more than two dogs per reservation Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests. Cleaning fee covers laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom/kitchen sanitizing, and garbage removal. Guests are expected to otherwise leave the house in the condition they found it. If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot! The road to the house is gravel, and depending on whether the road crew has repaired the road recently there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be one or two on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. Because the house is surrounded by forests, the creek, and the river, there is plenty of nature to enjoy but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set hidden traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen is sanitary at the beginning of your stay. The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows, and cobwebs sprouting up here and there. If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation! Policies: • This is a NON-SMOKING rental with steep penalties for violations • Up to 2 dogs allowed for an additional $28 (including tax) • Minimum primary guest age 25, or 21 for married or domestic partners. Interaction with guests
We put together several pages of things to do, from whitewater to bowling, arts to hiking, and much more. We also provide a list of our favorite restaurants in the area, and stacks of brochures from local tourist attractions kept at the house. There is a Monongahela National Forest hiking guide available for use at the property. We have a manager, Jodie, who is available by phone if you have any concerns during your stay.

The home was clean and well stocked with the necessities. The surrounding property was beautiful and private but did not feel isolated. My dog loved running around the property. Many great day hiking places within driving distance. The directions are very specific and accurate, but...More

We chase this cabin for our annual girls trip. Easily accommodated 7 adults. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed. I did not give a five star rating as the weather was hot and the window fans did not adequately cool the home....More
