'L'Etoile de Mer' is a recently-constructed, five-bedroom, three-bathroom, detached villa, with a private, heated pool and wooded gardens front and rear. Located on the edge of La Tranche-sur-mer in the charming hamlet of La Terriere, it is within easy walking or cycling distance of a superb beach and also the shops, bars and restaurants of the town. Beautiful forest walks and cycle trails are on the doorstep, leading to the beaches and beyond. Several nearby beaches to choose from suitable for families, sun worshippers and surfing dudes alike! Our pool has lovely surroundings and a shaded terrace and is fully fenced and gated to keep your little ones safe, while you relax!

A great experience, lovely pool and a well equipped villa, close to a nice beach.
A great experience for our party of different families and young children, with a villa that was clean and very well equipped for all. The good sized pool was lovely, fairly warm and safe. There was plenty of social space and dining space inside and out for our party of 12. The villa was within easy distance of a nice beach, which included water sports if wanted. I would highly recommend for a fairly large party, especially including young children.

Fantastic Villa and Pool
Spent a really lovely week here enjoying the sun and swimming pool. Well equipped house/pool in excellent location for beach, boulangerie and all La Tranche and the Vendee have to offer.

Perfect for families
My family and I (age range 3 to 60+) spent a great week at L'Etoile de Mer last summer. It is situated in a quiet location convenient for the clean sandy beach of la Terriere and the local boulangerie. Everything you need for a relaxing holiday is provided from beach and pool toys to board games and bikes. We spent hours swimming and playing in the lovely pool and relaxing on the sun loungers.. The nearby town of La Tranche sur Mer is attractive and has plenty of shops and restaurants although we bought our food at the local supermarket and ate all our meals on the terrace.

Lovely stay in a lovely home
We had a really lovely holiday. The accommodation was perfect for us and our young children. All the home comforts you need, lovely pool and really easy access to the beach which our toddler loved! We will definitely be coming back.

Perfect Place to Chill
We stayed here in July/August 2017. We had perfect weather but I think this place would be perfect, no matter what the weather. There are so many items to keep you happy and occupied. Excellent bikes, body boards, table tennis table, floats, indoor games, DVDs, books and every piece of equipment you would want on holiday. Great BBQ I really appreciate sharp kitchen knives when cooking. Plenty to choose from and a good sharpening stone there too !!! Situation is excellent. It is as described on the website but we particularly would add the Free ‘Fun Bus’ that runs half hourly during the season. Nearest stop is 3 mins walk away . Takes you to LaTranche or the beach or many other places. We hardly used our car in 2 weeks. Oh ! and the WiFi is excellent. Our ages ranged from 10 to 71yrs and the layout of the house accommodates this very nicely. There is even a separate sun deck if some in the party get fed up with the others.  The pool temperature is perfect. Last time my wife was prepared to swim was in the Aegean Sea, but it was fine for her here. I think this review sounds as if I am the owner or a relative. I am not. I did a lot of research to find this place and it was worth it. One point …..if you want culture you will have to travel. This is a relaxing holiday place. The sea/beach nearest the house is lovely. But the pool is so good you will have difficulty getting the family to it. If you are not BBQing the local (10mins walk) restaurant is good value with excellent fish. Other than that take the Fun Bus (10mins) to La Tranche or cycle. My wife and I had a lovely walk through the woods to La Tranche

The best possible holiday home from home
I loved it here; from the pool to the hammock, the comfort of the loungers, the roof terrace that shows off the best sunsets, to the relaxed and beautifully designed bedrooms and interiors. But the best bits are all the additional details - the boules set, the bikes that come with a carriage to carry little ones, the kitchen that is better equipped than my one at home, the bbq, the board games, the lilos for the heated pool and all you could ever need for days our at the beach or long bike rides. Then there is the location close to a perfect bakery, beach and woods for adventures, even a trim trail, but close enough to La Trenche to access ice cream, restaurants and boat trips.

Fantastic Villa with great facilities and more!!
Our family party of 10 stayed for two weeks and did not want to go home!!! The property is lovely, large salt water pool, heated, large rooms, various bikes to use whilst you stay and well equipped kitchen. Rounded off with Humax Set Top Box so you can watch your soap of choice!!! Our 4 x 4 year old toddlers loved the pool, and their rooms. Great location and short cycle to bakers every morning for bread and croissants. Beach a short drive or cycle, good local restaurants and good option for kids if the weather takes a turn for the worse. Just over an hour to La Rochelle and worth the trip. Natural History Museum was a big hit and something for kids and adults. We hope to return again very soon. Don't tell too many people about this great rental. Local staff and owner cannot do enough to make your stay perfect.

Perfect family villa with pool
We've stayed at the villa three times and love it there. The villa is in a fantastic location, 10 minutes walk from a lovely sandy beach and a short walk from the village bakery, restaurant and bar. A large supermarket and market town are also only a short distance. We often use the bikes at the villa to explore the local area, including the pine forests and beaches to the north. Best of all is the villa itself, which is set up for all your needs. Both the adults and kids in our party enjoy spending hours on the veranda and in the wonderful heated swimming pool. However, there's lots else to do in the Vendee if you're feeling more adventurous, including boating on the Green Venice canal and visiting chateaux. We'll definitely be returning.

Great for families
The location was great very close to a perfect beach the only problem was the swimming pool with the property was so good nobody wanted to leave it. There was lots of space to spread out with bedrooms on two levels so nobody was on top of each other.there was a lovely terrace so all our meals were eaten outside which the grandchildren loved .

Fabulous villa in an excellent location for a family holiday
A wonderful, spacious villa in a fantastic location. A short, pleasant walk (or a very quick pedal on one of the many well-maintained bikes provided) to a range of beaches and the town centre. We were not familiar with La Tranche but found it to provided everything we needed - great food in abundance, a network of good quality cycle paths, beach bars. A really lovely place for a family break. The house itself is very well equipped and is spacious (we were 2 families with 2 babies and a toddler in tow). The design is well thought-out with shaded dining areas beside the pool for all times of day. The pool was warm (29C). It was very easy to contain the toddler using the in-situ gates. The house was very cool by day and warm by night. Excellent kitchen facilities and barbecue. Owner very pleasant to deal with. We intend to book again.

About the neighborhood
La Tranche-sur-Mer is a very typical, unspoilt, family-friendly seaside town with a very 'French' atmosphere. In the summer months the town organises many activities, mostly free, including live performances ranging from folk and jazz to rock bands. There is an excellent twice-weekly market and a wide variety of good restaurants, bars and shops. In La Terriere itself there is a baker, bar and hotel/restaurant. Our local beach 'La Terriere Plage' is, without doubt, the best in the area. It is well-supervised, has a large car park and several snack bars and two surf schools. The beach is huge and it is easy to get away from the crowds, if you wish. There is an official 'clothing optional' area a short distance from the main beach.

How to get there
La Tranche is ideally located on the west coast of France, far enough south to enjoy a different climate but close enough to be within reasonable travel distance for families. The nearest channel ferry port is St.Malo at 3.5 hours drive time with Cherbourg, Caen, Roscoff and Le Havre being up to 1.5 hours more. It is also possible to travel from Calais within a day. Travel arrangements by a combination of train and bus are quite possible, although some of our guests have preferred to take a taxi for the last stage to La Tranche itself. Bringing a car is not essential as everything is within easy cycling or walking distance. If our bikes do not suit you, others can be hired locally. Cars can also be hired locally for day trips, even from the the local supermarket! The nearest airport is at La Rochelle which is about 50 minutes drive and is well-served by budget flights from the UK including; Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester and London Stanstead. There are also budget flights to Nantes which is about 1.5 hours drive. Cars can be hired at the airport or again, it is possible to connect with public transport. If you are a fit and keen cyclist there is a wonderful route from Roscoff or St.Malo which follows mostly canal towpaths to the Loire followed by coastal cycle tracks to La Tranche. This takes about three days and overnight stays can be made at B&B, campsites or hotels on the way.
