Two mile drive to newly renovated major supermarket, eight miles to St. Albans. The house is located along Maquam Shore Road about 40 minutes from Burlington and one hour from Montreal. Great area for biking, fishing, hiking and just taking it easy and relaxing for a change.
This Lakehouse was beautifully decorated, with lots of unique items around to create interesting conversations by our family! It was very clean and spacious. The sunsets were out of this world. The owner was more than helpful in answering any questions we had before and during our stay. The beach was a bit rocky, so we highly recommend bringing water shoes. With the two kayaks, canoe, and our floating rafts, we were able to enjoy the lake to its fullest. Highly recommend!

Beautiful house with a gorgeous view.
My family enjoyed staying here. The house is clean and beautifully decorated. The view of Lake Champlain from the deck is gorgeous. My adult kids swam and kayaked everyday. Would recommend bringing water shoes to enter the water because it is very rocky. Great location, too. We were able to drive to St. Albans for dinner as well as take day trips to Stowe and Burlington. Fun vacation!! Love this house!!

Peaceful week on the lake
We were looking for a peaceful lakefront vacation and found it. The way the house is situated in the lakefront bedroom you feel like you are in a boat when you wake up and see the water. The yard is great Adirondak chairs for having coffee in the morning and watching the sun set at night.
The house is a bit older but the owners have done a great job making it cozy and welcoming. Speaking of owners they have been very helpful with everything. The house had everything we needed.
About the location.
It is about 45 minutes north of Burlington and about an hour from Stowe. Both were easy day trips. I was expecting the lake to be busier with boats but there was not tons of traffic, we went out on kayaks and the canoe several days and there is a very peaceful park with beautiful wetlands just a bit north of us.
An older renter mentioned this on a different comment but it is worth noting for anyone looking to boat from the house. There is a ramp and stairs to the water and it's a bit awkward with a heavy boat if you do not have two strong people.

It was a little slice of heaven!
We have rented previous houses for our summer vacation and have been very disappointed. This house was a totally different experience. Jack and John, the owners, were very gracious and quick to respond to any question. The house is cozy and comfortable with a kitchen that has everything. But what really made our trip was the amazing location right on Lake Champlain, facing west with access to boating and swimming. We kayaked and swam and also used the rail trail which is just a short ride away. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from the deck, house and water. There is, however, a lot to do fairly close by if you are looking for more than a totally relaxing vacation. We would like to rent again next year!

Sunset Heaven
This cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. We loved the deck in full, close up view of the lake and evening sunsets on clear nights. It also had a table and chairs where you could eat your meals outside which was lovely. The owners provide sheets and towels, kayaks , washer/dryer and WiFi. There art two TV's for anyone who wishes to watch TV and wonderful lighting and comfortable chairs to sit and read. The sunsets were spectacular when we were there. We found the cottage interesting, welcoming and very relaxing. Our one concern, as older guests who like to kayak and swim, was the steep, stone access to the water. However, we did get a few good kayak paddles in, one at sunset we shall never forget!

Perfectly tranquil
I had the pleasure of staying here during the summer and winter. It's a long way to come from Sydney but worth it! It's the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of NYC or any other major city. The views over the lake are amazing, as are the activities on the lake during summer. Sitting lakeside with a drink in hand watching the sunset over the water is simply fantastic. There is good privacy and ample garden space to feel isolated but the property is close to town if a restaurant meal is warranted. The cottage's facilities are excellent if dining in - clean, well-equipped etc and the bedrooms are spacious, quiet and homely. I can't fault the property and look forward to returning one day.

Relaxing Vacation
Our stay at 150 Maquam was just lovely. The cottage was clean, comfortable and cozy with enough room for us to enjoy time together and have some alone time. The views of Lake Champlain are just spectacular and I highly recommend watching a few sunsets from the porch or living room.
We enjoyed the kitchen (there is a grocery store located near) so, while we ate out most nights, we were still able to enjoy a dinner at home.
If you just can't fully unplug like us, there is internet access so don't fret.
I'd definetely go back to Maquam for another relaxing vacation.

Lovely quiet week at Lake Champlain
Great rental house right on the lake. The house is well equipped, and has virtually all you will need for a relaxing week. We especially enjoyed the library of books to read while relaxing in the sun. The shore, although a bit rocky, is shallow for a good distance with very calm waters. The house is in a quiet town, and is truly "away from it all". We visited the Burlington, Montreal, and Waterbury areas... All 45-90 minute drives away. My only (minor) issue, which has nothing to do with the house... On a cooler, rainier day, trying to entertain 3 teenagers was a bit difficult. Things like mini golf, movies, and even a nicer restaurant was at least a 30 minute drive away (at least what I could find via internet). The owners were very prompt in answering questions and returning security deposit, which was much appreciated.

Perfect
The owner Jack was easy to deal with, communicated quickly and effectively, and described the house / location perfectly. Our week at the cottage was spectacular. Even in late July, daytime and evening temperatures were easily managed by opening the windows and allowing the lake breeze to flow through the house.
Views of the lake were great both morning and evening! We spent quite a lot of time in the water both swimming and in the kayaks / canoe. With swimming, water shoes are necessary because of the stones on the lake bed.
We had great access to the local park / beach just up the road from the house; to Swanton and the local Hannaford supermarket, the Saturday farmers market in Swanton town square, and Maple City Candy; and St Albans with another supermarket, Walmart, and small shops and restaurants (along with another beautiful town square).
Our day trips to Montreal and to Burlington were simple to get to because of the location relative to the highway. The bike riding from the house isalso great! Maquam Shore Road is part of the Champlain Bikeway!! I rode both the Missisquoi Rail Trail a couple of time and several other rides on the road, and each of them was spectacular. There is information at the house detailing the bike riding in Vermont, the wildlife refuge on the lake, and activities in Franklin County and around Vermont. Jack and John have an extremely well set up house (you really need to just bring yourself and some food), plenty of activities at the house and within easy walking or driving distances, and a fantastic location overlooking the lake. I am looking forward to more vacation time here in the upcoming years (one week was just not enough time!!).

House is located on what's referred to as the 'Gold Coast' of Lake Champlain, outside of Swanton. Many of the houses on this shore, including this one, are full-time year-round residences. One hour from Montreal, 40 minutes to Burlington, 12 minutes to St. Albans. Plenty of parking on paved driveway.
