Many comment that the same fascination can be experienced on a short walk, not far from the accommodation where they are staying, as from a long expedition into the hills; although it is recommend, for anyone staying more than a few days, to head out to Corrbhan Mor which is the highest point of Ellary and Castle Sween estates to see the most beautiful countryside. The area is one of outstanding unspoilt natural beauty and Ellary provides the perfect location for a quiet get away from it all peaceful holiday. The choice is yours whether you want a quiet unwind or to sample the wealth of outdoor pursuits on the door step to suitable abilities; the Estate has slipway and harbour facilities for small/medium boats and the sailing is excellent. Exploring the west coast is also possible with Oban about an hour or so by car to the north. Post Code: PA31 8PA All of our cottages are let Saturday to Saturday, with short breaks welcome outwith Peak and High season or at short notice - please contact us with your requirements. Dogs and children are always welcome - the first dog stays free of charge, and it is £30 per week for the second (maximum of 2 unless by prior arrangement). There are also various other cottages available on the estate - search Ellary. Electricity is not included in the price - it is metered and charged at the end of your stay, at cost price. Bed linen is not included, so you will need to bring sheets and towels (duvets, pillows and blankets are provided). Wifi access is free and unlimited at Lochead Cottage - it is slow though due to our remote location. Cots and highchairs are available free of charge, subject to availability.

Ellery Cottages
We have just returned from a week at lochead cottage at Ellery estate lochgilphead. And it was absolutely fabulous. It is a beautiful cottage. Well equipped kitchen and very clean. We don't have any complaints. The view is spectacular. My little dog just loved it. She enjoyed sleeping on her little bed, on the window ledge in the living room. She spent a lot of her time looking out the window. Fabulous garden all fenced of so she could run around. We went with my daughter and her two children. We enjoyed walks and visit to castle Sween and a lot of different areas. We will certainly go back

Great location but...
We stayed here for a week whilst our Parents rented it for a fortnight. The cottage is in a beautiful location and there is an abundance of wildlife: otters, seals, birds (including sea eagles nearby), deer, badgers and beavers a few miles away. The view from the cottage is stunning too. But I couldn’t give it a higher rating based mostly on comfort and cleanliness. The settees are clean but uncomfortable after a days walking, the beds are uncomfortable and the duvets/pillows in a poor state and there was a packet of wet cigarette butts in the bedside drawer. Some of the kitchen utensils were caked with old food too. Ordinarily I could overlook these things but the cottage was not cheap and to top it off the electricity is charged on top of the rental - £80 something for 2 weeks is very steep considering that the tv was hardly used and we were out nearly every day. You are also expected to clean the cottage in preparation for the next visitors as they don’t have cleaners. This is perhaps why it wasn’t that clean for us. Aside from that, a beautiful location but I have stayed in better places.

Sorry to hear that you weren't completely happy with your stay in Lochead Cottage. All the cottages are checked between guests and I can only apologise as we must have overlooked a couple of things. All bedding is regularly replaced, and we always use pillow protectors etc - however we have got multiple spares of everything up at the office, so would have happily replaced everything for you immediately had we been aware that there was an issue. We have never had anyone find the sofas uncomfortable and I can only apologise that they were not to your liking. Electricity is charged at cost price only for the units used (we pay the standing charge) - we have found this to be more eco-friendly, and advice on how to keep the bill very low is printed on the back of the slip (for example, use the back boiler on the fire instead of the immerser). Thank you for the points you have raised - we will look in to each, and hope that you will stay with us again.

Excellent
My mum and I had a wonderful time here. Stunning, rugged and beautiful location. Spotlessly clean cottage, and when we had to contact the estate when I got my car stuck, the owners were fantastic with their help and kindness. Can't wait to come back for Christmas

Stunning location and pretty cottage
We were absolutely delighted at the location of this property as we were surrounded by peace, tranquility and an abundance wildlife. A nature lovers dream! The cottage was well equipped but sadly not the cleanest. The bedding provided (which we had to pay extra for) was stale smelling, the pillows and duvets were badly stained and the sheets were bobbly. I don't know how old these items were but they were desperately in need of replacement. It was asked that the property 'be left as we'd like to find it' but on arrival the shower rims behind the shower doors had not had a good clean in months, the stairs were dusty as was the tv stand, the carpets were old and stained, cobwebs were everywhere and the windows were filthy. If we were to leave the property as we'd like to find it, we'd have had to spend a full day cleaning. We had to pay extra for electricity and had to call the meter reading in at the end of our stay which felt wrong as the cottage was hardly cheap to rent. If you are looking for a beautiful location whilst staying in a quaint cottage far away from a busy life then there is no doubt that this place wins hands down. Its beautiful. However, if you like fresh, clean smelling bedding then i advise that you take your own. If the cleanliness and decent beds and bedding were sorted this place would get a 5☆ from me as this cottage could be amazing.

All bedding is regularly replaced, and we always use pillow protectors etc - however we have got multiple spares of everything up at the office, so would have happily replaced everything for you immediately had we been aware that there was an issue. The living room carpet was brand new over the winter, and we are unaware of any stains in any of the other rooms - however we will look in to this and shampoo/replace them if necessary. The windows were done on Friday after you left - apologies that this was not satisfactory during your stay - it is not part of our regular changeover, but we will certainly review the frequency of our window cleaning. Electricity is charged at cost price only for the units used only (we pay the standing charge) - we have found this to be more eco-friendly, and advice on how to keep the bill very low is printed on the back of the slip (for example, use the back boiler on the fire instead of the immerser). Lovely and peaceful place
Lochead Cottage is a wonderful and cosy place to be. It was our fifth stay at Ellary and it is always worth to go there all the way from Germany! :-)

Lovely cottage with beautiful views.
Large enclosed garden which was excellent for dogs. The country estate has walking paths that you can walk for miles if you want to. We saw deer, seals and a sea otter. You can actually walk all day and not bump into anyone if you want to. The cottage was well equipped and cosy, would definitely return.

Mrs
We visited the cottage as a party of six. The cottage is situated on a beautiful estate and this provides a wonderful quiet setting with freedom to walk, cycle, fish and kayak we felt very lucky to be there. Unfortunately the cottage itself was disappointing, the house keeping was of a very low standard. The cottage was dirty throughout it felt as if it had not been checked at all between lets.

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time on the estate, but are sad to hear about the housekeeping issues you encountered. All of our cottages are checked and cleaned to a very high standard before and after every single customer, but we are only human and sometimes things may be overlooked. Had you made us aware of any issues, we would have rectified them immediately - there is someone around 24/7 to help with any questions or problems you might have. Most of our customers return year after year, and are very happy with the standard of the cottages. We hope to meet your expectations the next time, should you return.

Magical
We spent a wonderful few days in Loch head cottage in early July. The location is so atmospheric, and the cottage was wonderful with stunning views over the burn and estuary. There is even fishing for seatrout, though I only got a wee one. We had deer wandering past the cottage, and eagles staring down at us on our evening walks. In short we loved our stay and hope to return.

About the neighborhood
The distance from Glasgow to Ellary is about 100 miles and it will take around two and a half hours. Although the journey can be accomplished faster than this, it is a beautiful drive and well worth the time. Take the M8 through Glasgow and cross the Clyde on the Erskine Bridge. This takes you straight on to the A82 wich at that point is a fast dual carriageway which takes you past the suburbs of Glasgow. Immediately when you leave the dual carriageway you are suddenly in the Highlands. What were the promise of some mountains in the distance, are suddenly all around you. Look across the water at the steep steep sides of Ben Lomond, and soak up the views of Ben Lui, Ben Vorlich and many others. You are in the heart of 'Ben' country.
Getting around
There is no public transport here, so a car is necessary. We are not far from Tarbert (about 30 minutes), and the ferries to the islands. Similarly, Inverary is about 50 minutes away, and Oban just over an hour.

How to get there
Leave Lochgilphead on the A83 in the direction of Campbeltown, turn right two miles after Ardrishaig onto the B8024 signposted Kilberry, turn right, about five miles later onto the unclassified road signposted to Ellary. The Bungalow is about 4 miles down this road, on the left hand side.
