Balinakill nestles on a hillside in 7 acres of peaceful grounds on the west side of the Kintyre Peninsula in Argyll, easily accessible by air, boat or road. This impressive victorian country house retains a wealth of period features and is set in mature gardens on the edge of the village of Clachan, one of the oldest settlements in Kintyre.
Balinakill has 12 double/twin en suite bedrooms, an additional children's play/bedroom, 3 large public rooms, a fully equipped country kitchen, a Victorian dining room, and a cosy gunroom bar with a wood burning stove. A separate catering kitchen is also available should guests choose to arrange full or partial contract catering during their stay. On arrival you will find fresh flowers in the public rooms, the fires and the stoves set.

Practically perfect in every way
We have had the privilege of staying at Balinakill Country House on two separate occasions: a weeklong family vacation in
2022 and a trip with a group of friends in 2023. On both occasions, our stay was perfection. The house is large, warm and welcoming, the gardens beautiful, the staff friendly and efficient, and the Kintyre Peninsula a lovely area to explore. The fact that most bedrooms have private bathroom is an added luxury when traveling with a large and varied group.
We have spent many evenings enjoying lovely dinners in the beautiful dining room, followed by cozy evenings in front of the fire places. I could not recommend enough a stay at this beautiful, welcoming Scottish retreat.

Perfect home to escape to. Would return tomorrow.
We have had the most amazing time for my husband’s 60th birthday. The home is beautiful and perfect for mixed generations, the playroom was perfect for our little ones while the adults loved the bar.
Ann has been so friendly and responded to all questions and requests quickly.
The countryside around the house fantastic with a very manageable walk to the beach for our little ones.
My husband felt like the house had lots of hidden gems, it was big enough to have quiet time and reflect when you felt like it.
We would all like to return soon.
PERFECT a great escape from the world.

I hosted a wellness retreat at this location, and it was amazing. I highly recommend.
The communication with the owners was amazing and they went out of their way to make our week very enjoyable. We had the chance to work with the locals and it added more charm to our experience. I can't wait to visit again in 2025.

Murder Mystery Retirement Celebration
We absolutely loved our 4 night stay at Balinakill.
We went to celebrate my retirement with our large family of all ages.
Firstly the wonderful drive in was beautiful with breathtaking scenery of forests, lochs, and the smell of pure sweet fresh air.
Then we arrived at the amazing period house which was oozing history and full of period fixtures and fittings, set in beautiful gardens. It had lots of space for our large family to spread out, find their own space and get lost in.
We were welcomed to a warm house with the central heating on and adjustable for the whole of our stay but also supplied with an endless supply of logs for the large fires.
The house was clean, the bedrooms all en suite and the beds comfortable.
Ann the owner/manager had arranged for the table to be set for 26 seats, which fitted us all in the dining room quite well.
We hired a chef to cook and serve our food whilst we sat around a huge dining table for a Murder Mystery evening. This must have surprised him as we were all dressed in 1920s outfits, talking and acting bizarrely. The chef had a separate Catering kitchen in the house for him to use.
The bar was a great success as we stocked it and drank it dry ourselves. There was also a pool table and games in another room which the teens made the most of.
The kitchens and dining rooms were well stocked for everything needed to cook meals for lots of people or entertain.
I would take lots of provisions up with you as it is quite a distance to go for supplies and as far as I saw it is not possible to walk to a local pub or restaurant.
Ann the owner/manager was quick to respond to queries and very helpful.
I and all my family would highly recommend this property.

The party is never over at Balinakill
We all had a great third visit to wonderful Balinakill which despite its grand size, feels like a home from home. The hot tub was an added bonus this year, so relaxing to soak in after taking a good walk from the door either to the beach or the beautiful hills that fill the view beyond the garden. All of this before a friendly party gathering in the bar each evening.

Fantastic house for a four generation family holiday
Balinakill provided the perfect setting for our Easter family break, with plenty of room for 25 of us (ranging in age from 2 to 92) plus our 4 dogs. The en-suites in most of the rooms were a real bonus, and the number of public rooms meant that it didn’t feel like we were all living on top of each other. The house provided the setting for everything from an Easter egg hunt for the children, to a murder mystery, a pub quiz and a ceilidh! It was great to be able to all get together round the huge dining table for dinner each evening, and we enjoyed gathering round a roaring fire in the lovely wood-panelled sitting room once the children were in bed. The bar was a hit too - it was like having our very own pub!
We would happily return to Balinakill and would thoroughly recommend it as the ideal base for exploring a lovely part of the country.

A unforgettable weekend in a truly stunning house.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Massive, high ceilinged rooms, oak panelled walls, sumptuous staircases, loads of luxurious bedrooms and places to hang out and a fantastic kitchen and dining room. Oh, and it's very own bar where you are the boss and you can keep it open as long as you like!
The hot tub came in handy the next day to get rid of the hangover!
This is a stunning house, beautifully maintained surrounded by a gorgeous garden that is great for big gatherings and family events. Spotlessly clean too. I can't wait to go back there!

Amazing house for a special celebration
Everything about Balinakill is special. The house, the location, the gardens, the amenities, the deco, Ann & Uta (owner and house keeper). We rented it to celebrate my 50th birthday with a large group of friends, including a lot of kids (and a couple of dogs), and we had the best time. Every room is on suite and all the public rooms are amazing, including the kitchen (great for breakfast), the dining room (sits 20+ very well) and the two amazing sitting rooms. The hot tub was the cherry on the cake. All in all the perfect house for a big group who needs a lot of space and a little bit of luxury (but not in a stuff way) in a beautiful corner of Scotland.
