Private veranda with furniture, shared gravelled area. Two well-behaved dogs welcome at £10 per dog per week. Sorry, no smoking. Shop & pub 1.5 miles. Note: Due to its locality this property does not have wheelchair access. Note: Property accessed via 5 steps. Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam. Town: The lovely little spa town of Strathpeffer grew up after the discovery of exceptionally pure springs in the 18th Century. The waters were declared the healthiest in Britain in 1819 and the town burgeoned from there. The pavilion has been restored and is now used as a venue for events including concerts, dramas and live theatre. The former railway station was built in the Victorian times and it now serves as home to The Highland Museum of Childhood and craft workshops. Holiday makers can still sample the water in the old pump house, which is also a Tourist Information point. There are lovely walks to explore nearby and Strathpeffer is super base for a holiday as it is close to many attractions and only 20 miles from the thriving city of Inverness.More

Relaxing few days
Just returned from a three night stay at larch-field chalet 1. Had a lovely time. Chalet clean and comfortable and dogs welcome . Difficult to find even using satnav, however owner Alan was easily contactable and helped with directions. Also friendly throughout our stay. I would recommend . Surrounded by beautiful Scottish countryside. Not far to travel into strathpeffer and Dingwall .

Beautiful views from chalet but room for improvement in a few areas
I booked a short three-night stay here with my young dog. Location is lovely but you do need guidance from the owners to get to the actual location and it is accessed by typical Scottish country roads (ie single lane with passing places). The chalet is cosy but the rooms are quite a bit smaller than a standard cottage as it is a chalet. One of the bedrooms is located in the roof (there’s a ladder to get up there). However it is pretty decently equipped, although note there is no WiFi but you do get a decent 4G signal. The views are beautiful and you can walk your dog on a leadin the immediate area. There are cows and sheep in the adjacent fields so need to be careful and also avoid the electric fencing. I only met one host, Alan, and wasn’t really welcomed by him so I was left to my own devices when trying to work out how things operated in the chalet. There are also no instructions/welcome pack provided which I think might have been useful for things like operating the DVD (which source to use on TV), etc. The host didn’t seem that interested in welcoming me into the property or showing me how things worked. He was also quite abrupt when I inadvertently parked in the wrong area one day; personally, I think a welcome pack or proper induction would have avoided that issue!! Generally I felt the hosts are only interested in longer bookings where they can take more money and not shorter stays such as mine. Fair enough but then they should instruct Sykes Cottages accordingly. There are lots of places to stay in and around Strathpeffer so I think there may be better options than this one. That said, I did love the views from the balcony of the chalet and they were great to wake up to.

Good Base
This was a good base for all the activities which we had planned to do on our holiday. On the whole the property was good but a few niggly points for me, there was not enough space around the table for 6 people only 4, there was no family size freezer, and if you are not cooking or eating out (which the owner commented to me on arrival) why is there a dishwasher . Owners would be better off advertising the property as 4 and not 6.

Just great
An excellent holiday chalet: very comfortable, great location, wonderful views. The only problem - not a big one - is that the directions to the property were unhelpful (unlike the owners who came to meet us and show us the way)

peaceful country retreat
This is a well equipped chalet with nice views and very welcoming hosts. It is well located for visiting the Highlands if you don't fancy moving around to a different B&B every few days. Do not even attempt to find it on your own the first time, phone Alan the owner and he is happy to come and guide you from Strathpeffer.

Hidden cottage
Difficult to find, but when we did find it, it was well worth it! The cottage was very well equipped, and had some nice treats waiting for us on arrival , It was clean and warm if the weather had been better we might have enjoyed The balcony a bit more! Spectacular views, welcoming house holder, nothing to Criticize, only praise! An enjoyable 3 days.

Lovely chalet in a beautiful location
I visited the chalet along with my parents, cousin and dog. Views from the chalet are stunning and the chalet itself is immaculate, welcoming and well equipped. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There are so many places to visit from this base. We will certainly be going back.

good location, friendly and pet friendly
The owners were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Our cottage was the larger of two alpine style chalet buildings which are have a hillside location. The cottage was warm and comfortable for four of us and two dogs. Two of us are young fit people who could climb the loft ladder for access to the upstairs bedroom without difficulty. The cottage would be OK for up to five people. It is close to Strathpeffer with easy access to main routes. There are good walks for folks and dogs around Strathpeffer including excellent woodland and hill walks.
