The Doocot is a delightful and secluded cottage, set in woodland and it's own gardens beside an 18th Century doocot. There is plenty to do and see in the area from fishing to skydiving … and further a field there are even more opportunities and amenities. We are, after all, only an hour by car from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, 15 minutes from Perth and 25 minutes from Stirling. The Doocot is centrally placed for day trips to the Highlands or for forays over to the west. The East Neuk of Fife and St Andrews are an hour away - so you could spend one day on the beach and the next hill walking in the Highlands.
Dunning itself is only a short walk away from the cottage and boasts a couple of restaurants and a fine pub (or three!) golf, tennis and even the site of the last witch to be burnt in Scotland. Within the village itself there are two small grocers, a post office, and a church. There is also a doctor’s surgery, a mobile bank and a mobile library. To stretch your legs you can walk straight out of the front door and find yourself in the countryside or a short distance away is the beautiful Dell. If you prefer sport there is a nine hole golf course almost at the end of the garden and a couple of tennis courts in the park.
The cottage itself was renovated in 2006. It has it's own private drive and parking facilities plus beautiful garden and woodland on all sides. The aspect is south facing and over fields and a golf course so not overlooked at all - which makes this a very romantic and secluded spot. There is a large area of decking in front of the cottage and both the bedroom and sitting room have french windows opening onto the deck. There is ample garden furniture comprising of patio table and chairs plus comfortable sun loungers on the deck also hammocks and swing seats in the garden. You enter the cottage through a conservatory which leads into the sitting room/kitchen. This is a very cosy room made more welcoming by the log burning stove (there is always a plentiful supply of logs outside) with beautiful views through the french doors to the countryside beyond. There is a TV, DVD and IPOD Dock and all bed linen and towels supplied. The bathroom has all the usual amenities plus a shower over the bath and is well equipped with fresh towels, dressing gowns and toiletries. The bedroom has a super-king size bed which may be split to form two full size single beds and the french windows look out over the countryside and Ochil Hills beyond.
Great place, great location and can't wait to be back again.
It has been a while, but utterly fantastic to be back in the heart of Scotland at The Doocot again. Well, not actually in The Doocot, but rather Hilary and Bruce’s other accommodation, The Studio Apartment (no apparent link on TA).
Although attached to their actual house it is totally independent and as sumptuous as we remembered The Doocot to be. The welcome pack was a delight, and better than we recalled. The bed was delightful, exactly as advertised, and the shower just has to be seen to be believed. Worth going for this alone. It was just for a shorter stay, so no oven didn’t matter as what was there was more than adequate for our requirements…which was basically a bit of brekkie and pack lunch for the walks, scenic trips etc otherwise we just ate out in the evening.
What a great place in a great location, can’t wait to be back again.

A true sanctuary
The Doocot is very special indeed; beautifully decorated with every conceivable amenity and more! Hilary adds particular little touches like fresh flowers and eggs, fruit and (since it was Easter) wee chocolate eggs, milk and fizz in the fridge, plenty of logs for the fire and lots of other lovely touches.
The setting is truly tranquil and as we had lovely spring weather, we lazed in the hammock under the trees and lounged on the outside deck with a cold beer.
We love the village too, for it's interesting history and quirky buildings ,superb walks and lovely pub.
This was our third visit and we are coming back next year.
A thousand Thank yous Hilary!

Perfect Short Break
This is not my first time at the perfect Doocot and nor will it be my last. We're addicted to this perfect little hideaway. This time I visited with my Mum and her dog. Everything was wonderful as usual: fabulous seclusion, fabulous attention to detail, beautiful surroundings, Hilary's tasty home baked scones and home made jam and home baked dog biscuits too! Can't wait till our next visit which is already booked!

Little gem. Wish I could keep this secret!
The cottage is in such a tranquil setting yet only a five minute walk from a village full of history but with amenities such as a shop, hotels etc. Warm welcome at the Dunning hotel. Short drive from so much of the beautiful Perthshire countryside.
The cottage exceeded all expectations, was spotless and with so many extra touches which were much appreciated. Not forgotten was our dog Maisie with treats and her own blanket if required..
We were greeted warmly and assured of any help if required by Owner Hilary. Perfect hosts by being there if needed but unintrusive.
Shall we return? Yes indeed.

Fantastic cottage
We stayed at the cottage for a week with our dog for a dog friendly holiday (not sure why the info on this page says it is not pet friendly).
The bedroom is a decent size with a king size bed and a decent sized wardrobe for a holiday. The room was cosy and very comfortable. I wasn't expecting things like bathrobes, slippers, hairdryer and toiletries but they were all provided.
The living area was also nice and cosy. There was a log burner which we didn't need to use but was well stocked with logs if we did need to use it.
The kitchenette was well stocked although the cooker and hob took a while to heat up being electric. There were scones and strawberries on arrival which was another nice touch as well as the damson gin.
There was plenty of information of things to do in the local area and further afield.
The grounds are lovely. The garden is huge and our dog loved it there, especially when Bruce was walking his 2 dogs in the garden when she was outside.
As this was our first cottage holiday I feel we may have been spoiled and we are set for disappointment on any further holidays of this type as the bar was set so high at the Doocot.

Wonderful cottage.
This cottage is in Dunning which is ideally located to explore Perthshire and further afield. The owners are friendly and extremely helpful. The cottage itself is lovely - warm, comfortable and very well equipped. Will definitely return and hopefully be able to stay longer.

Ideal spot to Relax and Switch off
The Doocot at Dunning is very accessible just off the A9. It fulfills its description as a comfortable and compact holiday unit. Warm and cosy and all comforts needed.
The owners are helpful and attentive but very respectful of guests privacy.
Nice locality with a range of places to eat within an easy drive
We most appreciated the a really quiet but not remote spot for a good break.

A comfortable, restful place to stay with special touches and wonderful hosts
We stayed in the Studio for a few nights while visiting family in the area. It was a last-minute lucky find, and we were very pleased.
It is simply furnished in calm colors and had everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing stay. The king-sized bed was sooooo comfy, bathroom was luxurious (plush towels, bathrobes/slippers, amazing shower, underfloor heating and unique stained-glass windows). It was so nice to wake up and see the serene country fields from the bedroom window. Thoughtful touches like yummy scones with homemade raspberry jam, a bowl of fresh local strawberries and a vase of hand-picked flowers welcoming us upon arrival made it extra special.
There is a small kitchen with a microwave, egg-maker, toaster and the ubiquitous tea-kettle. There isn't a proper stove for cooking but that was not a problem as it was enough for making toast and tea breakfasts, and we ate lunches & dinners out. (Apparently the chickens on the property would have provided fresh eggs too, but they hadn't produced any during our visit). There is a small shop in the village center (walking distance) which has a few things you might need for breakfast or snacks.
Hilary and Bruce are warm, friendly hosts who know how to make guests feel very welcome (Hilary even lent me a yoga mat and took me to a class so I could keep up with my yoga practice during our visit.) Overall, it was an excellent experience and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a quiet place to relax and unwind.
We can't wait to come back next year!

It was great meeting you both and sorry about the eggs! The hens are surely on strike as we have still had no eggs ... perhaps it's time for some younger models? Hope to see you both again.

So relaxing!
We had the most wonderful short stay at the Doocot Dunning. The cottage is set in the most lovely grounds, is well equipped and the housekeeping of a high standard. The little extra touches were great such as the lovely scones and homemade jam on arrival. Situated just outside the village of Dunning it was a short walk to reach the local pub restaurant and grocery store. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a get away from it all relaxing break.

Dunning is a small rural village in Central Perthshire with easy access to the major airports of Glasgow and Edinburgh and local train stations. The Doocot itself is situated just outside the village but with easy walking distance of the nearest shop and pub giving it a quiet and private location.
