Cottage
Dolphin Cottage is a tiny, thatched, 17th Century, cob cottage, in the picturesque village of Shaldon.
It is in a quiet square, one minute's walk from the beach. There's a second beach which is about ten minute's walk away through the smugglers' tunnel!
Most of Shaldon village is flat and level, with easy access to the beach and shops. There are two steps down into the cottage and two other small steps inside. There are excellent shops providing most of what you need. There are plenty of pubs and cafes too, and a chip shop.
Downstairs there is a sitting room with sofa bed, and arm chairs, television with DVD player, and a living flame electric fire. The kitchen is well equipped. There is a washing machine and a dishwasher and a microwave.

The attractively tiled bathroom is also downstairs, and has a toilet, washbasin and bath.
There's a small sun lounge with reclining chairs, a washing line and toys for use on the beach.
Outside, the small enclosed courtyard is a lovely place to sit on the garden chairs and enjoy the fresh air. There is a small flowerbed with fuchsias, roses and clematis in it. As there is no passing traffic, it's a very peaceful spot. There is an outside toilet - useful if your feet are covered in sand!
Upstairs, the twin bedroom is reached by walking through the double bedroom. This makes it very suitable for families with children, but perhaps not so good for groups of adults. There is a washbasin in the twin room, and a cot.
Bed linen and towels can be provided for you at extra cost. Please email the owner of the cottage for details.
We try to provide everything you need for a comfortable and happy holiday.
Shaldon beaches are excellent for families. Swimming is safe as long as you take notice of the tides. A tide table is provided in the cottage, and it is not safe to swim while the tide is going out. When it is coming in though, it is exciting to swim from the ferry to the jetty with the tide, then get out, walk along the beach, and swim down again. It's called beach running! At low tide there are sand banks with masses of shellfish and small fishes - "The Salty". Again you need to plan according to the tides.
The ferry takes you to Teignmouth, where there are all the facilities of a small town, including largish supermarkets. There are more beaches, and a pier with amusements on it. From here there are boat trips, and you can hire boats or take part in water sports. The children's play area on the sea front is excellent.
The trains from Teignmouth are really good. You can go to Exeter - a spectacular ride along the coast - and the Central Station brings you right into the heart of the city. You can go up river to Newton Abbot and Totnes.
The buses too are frequent and reliable. In fact the public transport is so good that we like to park our car and forget about it for the week.
Of course there are lots of lovely walks too, up river, along the coast paths and round the village.
Shaldon is full of tiny narrow streets, little alleyways and colourful cottages. In Spring and Autumn parking is easy as the double yellow lines are seasonal. However in the summer parking can be tricky, so we will provide you with suggestions of the best places to use.
We hope you would like to come and stay at Dolphin Cottage. If there is anything else you would like to know, please do get in touch.
Excellent location just 2 minutes from the beach, and close to cafes and pubs and the ferry to Teignmouth. Fully enjoyed our stay and will visit again.

Amazing holiday
We love Shaldon and we love Dolphin Cottage. A beautiful cottage set a stone's throw from a family friendly beach, perfect for our young family. The property was wonderfully clean and maintained and the property was very cosy on a fairly cold April weekend. Plenty to do in Shaldon and neighboring Teignmouth for a family with a two and a four year old, along with several amazing places to eat and drink!

Lovely stay
Dolphin cottage is full of old world charm and character. Well equipped and spotlessly clean. We really appreciated the sunny courtyard space which made for a relaxing stay. Great village location right in the middle of things.

Quaint cottage in perfect location!
We loved our stay at Dolphin Cottage with our one and two year old children. House was very well set up for families with toys, plastic plates/cups, beach toys, and even a training potty for our two year old! The beach was a 20 second walk away from the front door right past an incredible pub that did brilliant food and beach beers! We loved having the bit of outdoor space to leave our sandy clothes/toys when arriving home. Very well set up for everything we needed and already looking forward to going back!

Lovely cottage in Shaldon
First visit for us back to Shaldon following covid pandemic. Cottage owner doing everything to try and keep everyone safe with additional measures (a list of which was sent to us prior to arrival) plus liquid soap and sanitiser left for our use
Cottage has a kitchen well equipped for preparing meals with a full size cooker plus dishwasher and washing machine. A nice welcoming touch was some coffee, teabags, milk sachets and biscuits left so we could make a drink as soon as we arrived. Lounge has a tv and the wifi works well, plus DVDs, games, books and in the sun lounge there are beach toys available.
The cottage is located in a small square a two minute walk from the beach, right in the centre of the village, the square is very small with little car parking but there is plenty of nearby parking available in Horse Lane only a couple of minutes walk from the cottage, we never had any problems finding a space.
Shaldon has a good selection of small shops, there is even a chemist, we would highly recommend the bakery, fish & chip shop and the Clipper Cafe.
We have enjoyed our short break, walks into Teignmouth plus exploring nearby Ringmore and the Templar Way at low tide walking part of the estuary section, lovely to have a few days staying so close to the sea.

Pretty cottage in great location
Dolphin cottage is a tiny thatched cottage in the centre of the very pretty village of Shaldon just minutes from the beach and ferry to Teignmouth and close to restaurants and pubs. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Being so old the ceilings and doors are low so if you are particularly tall beware I’d that!
The cottage is suitable for a couple or a family with small children as the twin room is accessed through the double room.
The owner responded very quickly during the booking process when we asked to change dates at the last minute and could not have been more helpful.
Definately recommend

Quaint and great location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dolphin Cottage, felt like stepping back in time but with all mod cons! Cottage has been well restored, clean and practical. Beware low doorways, few bumped heads despite precautions added by owners! Shower as described- very low Water pressure so need to use bath instead and allow plenty of time to run. Probably more suited to family with young children rather than our large teenagers!! Location amazing, very close to beach, ferry and cafes/restaurants. Great communication from host.

Lovely thatched cottage in Shaldon
A return visit to beautiful Shaldon and Dolphin Cottage, as always the cottage was lovely and clean and ideal for our short break. Even though the weather wasn't very kind to us, we could still enjoy our few days away, we got out and about in between the heavy rain and were grateful for places to hang wet jackets and put shoes and boots. The cottage has an array of books, games and DVDs to enjoy when we were indoors. The kitchen is well equipped to prepare meals, and has both a dishwasher and washing machine Located right in the centre of the village it so convenient for the local shops, pubs and restaurants.

Period holiday Cottage - Shaldon- Dolphin Cottage
This is a delightful small cottage. Location ideal for village. Very comfortable beds and sitting-room.
Reasonably equipped.
Unfortunately the advertisement was inaccurate and misleading. There is only one bathroom downstairs and no proper shower. Very inconvenient with 4 adults. Advertised as 2 bed, 2 bath and sleeps four?! Also to access 2nd bedroom have to go through 1st one!?
We compromised and all enjoyed our visit thank you.

Thankyou for your comments. I have now changed the advertisement so that it says there is only one bathroom. Unfortunately Trip Advisor does not have the facility to say that there is also an extra toilet, which I'm sure would be useful for people to know. The advert has always said, ". Upstairs, the twin bedroom is reached by walking through the double bedroom. This makes it very suitable for families with children, but perhaps not so good for groups of adults. There is a washbasin in the twin room, and a cot." and I don't think I can put it any clearer than that. Anyway, thankyou for the four star rating. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your holiday anyway. Best wishes, Helen

Beautiful
A simply beautiful cottage, with so much character. Its perfect for the beach and Shaldon centre while being in a beautiful quiet situation. The beach is literally 30 seconds walk. Very well equipped and everything has bee thought of. The quirk of an outside toilet as well as an inside one too. The owner is very responsive and also very helpful. I cant wait to visit again, next time with our grand daughters. There is so much in this cottage for everyone and the owner Helen should be congratulated for producing such an amazing holiday home.
