Aughinish Island Cottage is a tastefully restored stone cottage situated on the enchanting small island of Aughinish in Galway Bay. Aughinish forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way and is a peaceful haven with stunning views over Galway Bay to the north and the Burren to the south.

The cottage sits on a beautiful 0.5 acre site which includes a walled orchard, patio area and good sized lawn. The cottage is furnished with cosy furnishings, open plan kitchenette/sitting/dining room with wood burning stove. Electric shower and W.C. We spend our time between Aughinish and Belfast. We are available to answer any questions guests may have. If we are not available, our caretaker (who lives on the island) will meet our guests and be on-hand for anything that may be needed. Prior to your arrival, we will provide directions to the property and if there is anything you are specifically interested in, we will be happy to help. We look forward to hosting you at our property.

About the neighborhood
The colourful seaside village of Kinvara with its pretty quay is a 15 min drive away. The village has several lively traditional Irish pubs with nightly music, a handful of good restaurants, as well as 3 grocery stores, a post office, a pharmacist etc. There is a farmer's market every Friday morning where you can buy organic vegetables, home baking, crafts. Kinvara is famous for its medieval castle, 'Dunguaire', which provides nightly banquets during the summer period. Each August Kinvara hosts Cruinniu na mBad, a traditional sailing festival featuring Galway Hookers and Turf Boats. There is also a traditional music festival (Fleadh na gCuach) each May Bank Holiday weekend.
Getting around
Aughinish is a great base to explore the West of Ireland, including places of interest such as the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, the Aran Islands (accessible by boat from Doolin). County Clare is renowned for being one of the best places in Ireland for golf and the courses of Lahinch, Gort and Dromoland are nearby. The surfing is outstanding at both Fanore and Lahinch where you can take lessons and rent all the gear. Galway City (45 min drive) is also worth a visit including its famous Galway Races, Arts Festival and Oyster Festival. The city is rich in culture and has some of the best restaurants in Ireland.

How to get there
The cottage is 15 mins drive from Kinvara with limited public transport therefore a hire car is recommended. Cars are easy to hire from all the airports and we can provide directions to the property which has lots of parking space available. Aughinish is 2 ½ hours from Dublin Airport, 2 hours from Knock airport and 45 minutes from Shannon Airport.
