Rose Cottage is a little gem. If you are looking for a relaxing stay in a picture book cottage with character in abundance, then you'll have to go far to beat Rose Cottage. It is set in the centre of the beautiful village of Middleton-on-Sea in West Sussex.
The cottage is Grade II listed and dates back hundreds of years, with the first formal records of it dating from 1606. It was lovingly restored over a 2 year period by previous owners, using traditional building materials and techniques, in conjunction with the English Heritage. The accommodation consists of a cosy sitting room with a wood-burning stove for the chilly winter evenings and a TV with FreeSat channels. There is a well equipped kitchen, which includes a slim-line dishwasher. The double bedroom is a particular feature, with its exposed beams and its bed with its foot board made up from old stocks! There is a further bedroom with bunk beds and a modern style wet-room with shower, wash basin and toilet.
Outside, the cottage is set in beautiful gardens with well stocked flower beds and lawned areas. There is a Bistro set so guests can enjoy afternoon tea 'al fresco', or for just relaxing. There is off-road parking available, with a converted garage as a utility room and secure storage area for sports equipment or a cherished vehicle.

Nice cottage, clean and well kept and a nice garden. Not ideal for very small children as a few steep steps leading to hard floors but it is an old hse. Good location, close to a shop and a great Chinese restaurant .

We loved it - gorgeous old cottage with beautiful garden and all mod cons
Rose Cottage is every bit as gorgeous as it looks in the photos. A beautiful old cottage with a fabulous cottage garden and plenty of lawn.
We (3 adults, 1 toddler and 1 small dog) fitted comfortably into Rose Cottage. It may be small but it's furnished and equipped to make the most of the space and didn't feel at all cramped. Sunny afternoons were spent in the garden, cosy evenings in the living room. The tv/computer arrangement in the settle is worth a visit all by itself: ingenious! Plus the dishwasher (with tablets), washing machine (with powder), kitchen (with basic essentials). All the details are covered.
The cottage is set just a minute or two's walk from 2 sets of small shops with everything you could want for everyday, plus a lovely gift shop and a couple of takeaways. Ideal home away from home. The playground and park is hardly further: handy when holidaying with toddler and dog. The beach is less than 10 minutes' walk and if you go at low tide you have a massive sandy beach to play on - quiet even on a bank holiday Monday. The other reviewer mentioned the road: yes, the cottage is on the corner of the road into Middleton and Elmer and there is a fairly constant stream of cars but it certainly didn't bother us. It's nice to feel you're in a real place, where people's lives happen, not in some picturesque tourist spot where it is all for show.
Do book Rose Cottage - you won't regret it! Though we may regret recommending it so highly if it means we can't book another week some day.

Amazingly beautiful cottage
Amazingly beautiful cottage done with loving care. Though small it has more than any hotel can offer. Perfect for two, ok for four. The village is very quiet, but there is a noisy road next to the cottage. You can dine out just fine next door. The beach is not very special but the area is offering a lot.
