Greengates is a gorgeous period property set right on the West Somerset Coast in the beautiful harbour town of Watchet. The cottage is directly opposite the beach, just a stroll from Watchet’s famous picturesque marina, local shops, pubs, steam railway and cafes.
The cottage has been lovingly renovated and is quiet and cosy, whilst still retaining its period features like the open fireplace and stone walled dining room. Boasting sea views and parking for one vehicle at the front, it also has an enclosed garden at the back that's perfect for family BBQs after a long day exploring! Beautiful Property in a Brilliant Location
This is a lovely spacious cottage with the sea just across the road. Beautiful garden at the rear with plenty of seating, there was just me and my husband, but very safe and secluded for children and dogs. There is a drive at the front, we have a Jaguar X Type, there was ample room to park. The cottage was spotless, everything thought of to ensure a comfortable stay. It is a couple of minutes walk into the town centre where there are numerous pubs serving lovely food and lots of quirky shops. The communication with Tim before, during and after our stay was excellent. I cannot praise this property highly enough and was very sad to leave. Thank you Tim and Lisa.

Beautiful cottage in a perfect spot for the sea
We’ve been visiting Watchet for over 40 years and this is by far the best location we’ve found - cross the road and you’re on the beach, have already re-booked !
Excellent location with sea views from the lounge and master bedroom. Powerful shower in both bathrooms and spacious bedrooms. The cottage itself is supplied with everything you could possibly need including a BBQ for the nice size south facing garden.
Tim was super helpful and very responsive both before and during our stay which made us feel very welcome. Already looking forward to our return visit.

Lovely Cottage in an amazing village
I was lucky enough to spend 5 days in this cottage. The cottage is spacious will equipped with a modern finish that is very welcoming. The cottage is spacious enough that with 6 people you didn't feel on top of each other. Having two showers was ideal. The kitchen is a good size and has all the equipment you could need to make a meal. I didn't get a chance to use the garden as it was the middle of winter but it looked nice to sit out in and have a BBQ. Watchet is a great little village with a couple of pubs that do good food, a great tavern (Pebbles) that serves a great selection of ciders with a good collection of games to play. I was lucky enough to catch a steam train before the line closed for the winter period. If you ever wish to visit Watchet, Greengates is an amazing place to stay to explore the area.

Thanks so much for your kind review. We’re really glad you and others from your party really enjoyed your stay. You’ll have to make a return visit in the summer and enjoy a BBQ in the garden. The steam train is a must and Pebbles is such a wonderful bar. All the best from Greengates Holiday Cottage in Watchet.

Really lovely accommodation in a dog friendly spot.
Across the road from a lovely little beach this dog friendly accommodation is absolutely cracking.
The accommodation makes you wish for nothing... Thoughtfully put together to a really high standard. I loved the shower in the big bathroom with the waterfall shower and just wish that I had time to go for a sleep in the roll-top bath.
1 King size
1 double
1 set of twin beds
1 sofa bed.
Lovely garden which will be amazing in the sunshine.
TV has a Google chrome cast so you can play your Netflix etc. Good WiFi too.
Thoroughly recommend this lovely dog friendly cottage as Watchet and the surrounding areas is very dog friendly.
Make sure you visit the steam train and the fossil beach!
Top tip... For best rates go via the website to the owners directly. Their website has loads of photos on too.

Perfect family Xmas
We have just spent a wonderful few days at the cottage with my family over Xmas and absolutely loved it. The house is cosy, well equipped, with lovely decor and comfy beds. The location is perfect for exploring the town and local beach, and Watchet itself has lots of fab pubs, cafes and little shops. Great walks nearby and bigger towns such as Minehead and Taunton easily accessible. Would definitely recommend and would happily rebook again.

A perfect family stay in the heart of Watchet
We booked Greengates for May half term and had a superb week in Watchet. The property has been beautifully renovated throughout but retains a cosy character. The Bedrooms are a good size with comfortable beds and good showers. The kitchen and dining room were big enough to cook meals for our extended family. It was also great to have a garden and good quality internet. The town itself is right on the doorstep with the beach, harbour, pubs and shops, we particularly enjoyed visiting Pebbles bar. During the week we explored the Quatocks on mountain bikes, visited the zoo and Minehead beach, sampled lots of local beers and ciders and went on the lovely steam railway. I've already booked another trip to the cottage with friends later this year. I don't think you would find a better holiday rental in Watchet, highly recommended!

So good I had booked again within 2 hours of getting home
This Cottage is beautiful, so thoughtful.y done from the welcome pack on arrival, the dog friendly space and totally secure garden where our little monsters could run and explore without us worrying they might escape. The furniture and decor is height quality and the beds and pillows wonderfully comfortable. The Cottage is a short stroll from pretty much everything in Watchet with the wonderful pebbles tavern top of the list of places to go and spend an evening (if you’ve seen Fisherman’s Friends then done miss the shanty night) I can’t begin to describe how relaxed Watchet is, it’s peaceful and lovely and EVERYTHING is dog friendly even the museums and galleries allow dogs as well as the cafes and shops. We made some lovely local friends in the short time we were there. We had been home less than 2 hours and I’ve booked our next trip to Greengates already and got first refusal on a week later in the year for trip number 3. You don’t have to have dogs to go to a Greengates, but if you do then you definitely should

It’s hard to describe just how beautiful the local area is. Watchet itself is a historic harbour town with bags of character, quaintness and charm. Set in between the Quantocks, Brendan Hills and Exmoor, it is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The coast line is filled with wonderful beaches ideal for dog walkers, fossil hunters, anglers and bird watchers.
There’s something truly unique about Watchet’s mix of rocky cliffs, pebbled and sandy beaches, picturesque lighthouse, peaceful harbour, restaurant, shops, pubs and art galleries.
Go for a ride on the steam railway, walk up the old mineral line, spend a day at the beautiful Blue Anchor Bay, visit nearby medieval Dunster with its castle or take a family trip to Minehead.
Getting around
So much to see in Watchet. We’re a stones throw from all the shops, pubs and restaurants you could need - you may not need to go anywhere else!
Good local buses.
Steam Railway during peak season.
Plenty of good roads and taxi services.

How to get there
The Cottage is easily accessible by car, just 30 mins drive from Taunton off the M5. It is also accessible during the summer by railway as the West Somerset Steam Railway runs in to the town. There’s a good local bus service too.
On site parking is available for one car and the nearby public pay and display gives ample extra parking. Only a minutes walk.
