Arguably one of the best self-catering holiday cottage properties in Alnwick, Castle Retreat provides the very best in luxurious accommodation and certainly has the wow factor! Situated on the top (second) floor of a Grade 2 listed townhouse, it is away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet within easy reach of everything Alnwick has to offer.
This romantic retreat is perfect for two and ideally placed for exploring the town, the castle and, indeed, the whole of Northumberland. Just a few minutes' walk into the centre of town, everything is on the doorstep, yet because it is not on the main streets, the apartment is very quiet and peaceful.

Perfect stay in the perfect location
Castle retreat was in a great location for exploring Alnwick and wider Northumberland. The instructions and communication was great and Lynn was the perfect hostess. The apartment had everything we needed and some really lovely complimentary bits too. Will definitely be coming back!

A home from home
We have just completed an extended stay at the amazing Castle Retreat, Alnwick for whom the phrase “ A home from home” may well have been coined!
The apartment is superbly appointed and immaculately presented which made us immediately comfortable and at ease.
The location within Alnwick itself is perfect as it’s only a very short walk to all the shops, restaurants and bars which have now all fully re-opened and the town has recaptured its unmistakable buzz!
It also has Hulne Park at the end of the road offering amazing country walks which we enjoyed daily and would absolutely recommend.
In addition, it is obviously well located as a base to enjoy everything Northumberland has to offer.
From the welcome pack to the Residents parking permit if everything here has been designed to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible then mission accomplished!
We can’t recommend highly enough.

Fantastic apartment with amazing location
This apartment is superb. It is comfortable, cozy, beautifully appointment and well equipped. The views are stunning over to Alnwick Castle. I can find no fault with the apartment, and the welcome basket of goodies was simply amazing and very generous! I guess in the summer the road outside the bedroom may be a bit noisy if you had the window open, but in October, this was not a problem for us! Parking is also easy and very nearby. I cannot recommend this apartment enough.

Worth the wait..... Fantastic!
Castle Retreat apartment is situated 2minutes from Alnwicks main town square. Fabulous views of the castle and walls. Perfect location for touring all of Northumberland with parking outside, 1min away, using a visitor permit (we always got a space near).
The apartment is beautiful and just what you need for a couple, lovely fixtures and fittings, welcome tray, flowers and wine.
Very spacious rooms, huge comfy bed and everything you would ever need for a fantastic 5* stay in Alnwick. So many places to eat, visit, walk, beautiful beaches, but returning here to relax each day was lovely.... A real find!!
If looking for self catering.... You've found it!! 100% recommended..... One we will hopefully return to again.

Fabulous apartment
Beautiful apartment in a perfect location. The apartment was beyond my expectations, it was immaculately clean, decorated and furnished to a very high standard and everything you needed was there for a very comfortable stay. The views from the window were amazing looking onto the entrance of Alnwick Castle. It was a couple of minutes walk into the town and parking was easy , just around the corner of the apartment and a permit was provided. A lovely welcome pack was provided of biscuits, milk, bread, cakes , crisps and a bottle of wine. The bed was lovely and comfortable and there was also a TV in the bedroom. Overall I cannot rate this apartment highly enough and will definitely be returning.

Fantastic apartment in a great location
The apartment had everything you could wish for to make our stay perfect. A great central location, for sightseeing, situated in Alnwick, with plenty of choices for eating.
Northumberland is a hidden gem!!!

Alnwick Stay
A feast of castles and coastal beauty. Plenty of space and opportunities to observe Northumberland history and interested. Probably the UK'S best kept open secret.

A magical stay in majestic surroundings!!
Fantastic location with beautiful views of the castle. The accommodation was stylish and comfortable, with modern design complementing the rustic period features of the grade II listed building.
Beautiful walks in and around Alnwick as well as enjoying great food and the local hospitality.
A truly special place to stay.

Great apartment overlooking Alnwick Castle.
We had a lovely week-long stay. The apartment was perfect for a couple and in an excellent location for exploring Alnwick and beyond. The apartment was well maintained and very clean and the welcome 'treat-tray' was greatly appreciated! Despite being well-placed for eating out, the kitchen is well-stocked for cooking. We have no reservations in recommending this apartment for others and hope to stay there again ourselves in the future.

About the neighborhood
As well as having its own attractions - Alnwick Castle ("Hogwarts") and Gardens and Barter Books being the most famous - Alnwick is a perfect central hub for exploring Northumberland. Bamburgh Castle, Cragside House and Gardens, Dunstanburgh Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland Heritage Coast and Northumberland National Park are all easily accessible by car. The nearby Northumberland Coast AONB has some of the most unspoilt beaches in the country.
Getting around
Alnmouth is well served by buses up the coast via Craster, Newton-by-the-Sea, Seahouses and Bamburgh, making day trips and walks in the Northumberland Coast AONB very convenient. There are frequent buses to the East Coast main line rail station at Alnmouth, from which you can get trains to Newcastle, Edinburgh, etc. There are also express buses to Newcastle. However, most visitors will prefer the convenience of a car allowing trips inland to the Northumberland National Park, Cragside, Kielder Water, Hadrian's Wall and Newcastle (just under 45 minutes away).

How to get there
Alnwick is well served by buses and trains (connecting bus from Alnmouth rail station on the East Coast main line) but many visitors will prefer the convenience of a car. We provide a visitor parking permit which can be used on Bailiffgate, usually within 20-30m of the property.
Castle Retreat is situated right next to the main entrance to Alnwick Castle at the junction of Bailiffgate and Narrowgate, around 300m north of the town centre.
