Overview
Farmhouse -
4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6
Hawes, Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire, England
Cubble Head is a pretty farmhouse on the edge of Burtersett, a traditional Dales village just 1.5 miles from the bustling market town of Hawes where all services are available. It is peacefully situated on a back road which continues to Semerwater Lake where you can canoe or swim. The Pennine Way is just a mile from the house, and there are tremendous walks in every direction. It is ideal for a relaxing family holiday. Wensleydale is James Herriot country and home to Wensleydale cheese - made famous by Wallace and Gromit. There are many local scenic attractions such as Bolton Castle, Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Force. The nearby road across to Swaledale is regarded by many as the most scenic drive in England.

Staying anywhere in November is a risk but we were rewarded with a well equipped cottage that was warm and welcoming. The owners went out of their way to make us welcome and to facilitate our needs (we had a change over of guests). There were small attention to details that were lovely (fresh flowers) and nice thick towels. The...

About the neighborhood
Burtersett is a peaceful, timeless village, set on a slight hillside above the Wensleydale valley road. The name means high pasture and the fields around the village are still full of grazing sheep. The road through the village winds past pretty cottages and continues to Lake Semerwater, famed by geologists for its Ice Age relics and now enjoyed by canoeists and swimmers. Cubble Head is situated on the outskirts of Burtersett. From Burtersett, there is a lovely walk on a paved pathway through meadows to Hawes, about 1.5 miles away. The path was paved so that the Minister could walk from Hawes to the chapel in Burtersett without getting his robes muddy!Hawes is the highest market town in England and a place of real character. It has cobbled streets and a weekly street market. There are ma... more
