1st class apartment with 1st class views
Sunset Penthouse gives an uninterrupted view of Westbrook Bay, especially from its well appointed terrace and very well furnished rooftop conservatory which we found difficult to part with in order to go anywhere. The Royal Sea Bathing building is adjacent to everything one might want to access in Margate yet quietly removed from any hustle and bustle. The apartment itself is extremely comfortable and everything anyone could need is provided. It is definitely the best apartment we have stayed in anywhere in Europe. The hosts were welcoming and helpful yet unobtrusive and we will definitely stay there again.

Stunning sunset views.
The roof top terrace is what makes this apartment special. We were lucky enough with the weather to make really full use of it. Parking is easy, in a basement car park with stairs up. , Wi-Fi good, beds are very comfortable and the surroundings are quiet. Fabulous location with an easy walk to beach and shops. The apartment is a second home that is let out when not in use. The owners provide well for guests but understandably have a lot of their own stuff around. If you want an impersonal space then this isn’t it, but it is a great space, especially in lively weather. We didn’t have much contact with the owners but in the little contact we had, they were helpful and friendly.

Superb accommodation!
We had a wonderful stay at Sunset Penthouse. The apartment is spacious and beautifully decorated, with lots of quirky items that gave it a homely feel. The rooftop conservatory was a bonus and provided beautiful sea views. The penthouse is within easy walk to the seafront and town centre. Trent and Tracey were very friendly and helpful hosts. We could not have wished for more from our stay. Highly recommended!

Margate Sunsets
The location of this apartment is its greatest asset - well away from the potentially noisy centre of the resort but close enough to stroll to the restaurants, shops and other attractions. In addition the rooftop conservatory offers spectacular uninterrupted views of the west beaches and on the cloudless days that we have just enjoyed magnificent sunsets. The apartment is well equipped and includes a smart TV and DVD player. It would however have been useful to have a written folder of information on the apartment and the surrounding area. The only slight inconvenience is that there is only one parking space in the underground car park which necessitates parking any 2nd vehicle in the adjacent streets. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Thanking you for your very nice review. With regards to information on the apartment we meet and show all guests around the apartment when they arrive and explain how everything works and where everything is as we did with yourseleves so I'm sorry if there was anything we didn't explain and as I said I am always available on the phone for any queries. With regards information on the local area we have lots of pamphlets in perspex stands on the study table in the lounge about the local area including restaurants, tourist attaractions etc which you will have seen. Yes we only have one secure undergound car parking space but guests can park their vehicle up top during the day, and on the rare occasions that guests turn up in two vehicles there are plenty of free parking spaces opposite the complex and on the adjacent roads a short walk away from the complex. Many thanks for your review.

Lovely apartment with fantastic views
The penthouse apartment was lovely, it had everything you could need, the kitchen was excellently equipped and all the rooms were really comfortable. The best room was the conservatory on the roof with lovely views of the sea, and even better to be able to sit out on the furniture on the roof terrace and enjoy the sun all day long. We had a heatwave while we were here so it was great to bask in the sun on the roof but stay cool back indoors. The apartment was only a 5 minute walk from shops and the beach the only thing missing is a cut through from the hospital to the promenade. We came down on the train which was only a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Whilst here we enjoyed the beach and also visited the legendary Shell Grotto. A good way to discover hidden places is to do the Margate treasure trail round the town.

Dear Julie, Many thanks for your lovely review. Apologies about the cut through from the complex to the promenade, I forgot to say that there is and you can walk down the front past the beach bungalows and out to the promenade in the direction of the main Margate Sands beach. So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you may come back in future.

Lovely accomodation
A lovely apartment which was the saving grace to a sad run down Margate. Weeds! Unfortunately was the topic of conversation because there are so many everywhere. Our sunroom which was great had a beautiful view over the coast, but required you to avoid looking along the edge which had lots of weeds in bloom. (Apparently it’s a management companies job but if they don’t do it the owners need to sort it!). So sad because the attention to detail inside is beautiful. The rooftop did not come up to that high standard. Looked a little neglected. Only other minor issue was in bedroom 2. We had 11 pillows/cushions on our bed. I used 2 but the others all were down one side of the bed which totally blocked access. Looked pretty but not practical. The beach which is very near was cleaned each morning but the prom had weeds all the way along it. So sad! If the weeds were changed to tubs of flowers the outlook would improve 100% We used our accomodation as a lovely base and traveled around Kent, very convenient to Dover (loved the White cliffs and the castle), Canterbury Cathedral was well worth a visit. Also spent time in Broadstairs where there are far more restaurants. We enjoyed our trip and that was thanks to the lovely inside accomodation

Dear Guest, Thanking you for your compliments about our lovely apartment. Sorry that you were perturbed by a few weeds the other side of the glass balustrade. The balustrade is there as a safety barrier and we are not allowed to go over this barrier due to health and safety. In any case most of the weeds you mention were wild flowering lilac and good for the local bees. I cannot agree with your comments about Margate. Margate is a vibrant buzzing seaside town which has undergone a huge tranfsormation over the last ten years making it one of the most popular seaside resorts on the south east coast. The heart of Margate is full of chinzy cafes, restaurants, and pubs and for artist lovers the Turner Centre. Dreamland is now a major tourist attraction also hosting lots of outdoor concerts with famous bands at the weekends. We get some of the best weather in the UK and the summers here are generally hot and mostly sunny with much less rain than the rest of the UK. Being close to Dover means we have also have a lot of European guests and many of our European guests say that Margate and this coastline is very accessible to them with the good ferry and Eurostar links across the channel. They say they love to visit this part of England as they love the sandy beaches and coastline. I'm sorry you had a problem with a few weeds along the promenade but the local council as you say clean the beach each day and clean any litter daily and the place is kept in very good condition. Also the council do not use weed killer on weeds due to the danger to pets, wildlife, and the local environment. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay.

September sunsetd
We stayed at the apartment in September and enjoyed the roof terrace in the daytime and early evening to enjoy the sunsets. Great location so close to the beach and town for bars and restaurants (although we used the facilities on site mostly). Great for promenade walking and running too.

Beautiful apartment stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the sunset apartment it really enhanced our stay in Margate especially the rooftop conservatory and the great view of the sea. The attention to detail in the decor of the apartment was lovely. It is very well equipped with all household items so no need to worry about cleaning materials or anything really. The kitchen is better equipped than my own lol. Would love to return and would be happy to recommend to anyone. Thanks

Ideal self catering accommodation with great views from terrace. Very clean!
Had everything you need for a self cater. Nice decor. Owners have put a lot of thought and effort to make this place homely and comfortable. Very clean. Beds comfortable. Bathrooms were spacious. The sun lounge and terrace above the apartment overlooking sea must be a enhancing experience! We had wind howling weather so we could not utilise this lounge for too long. But we still loved the apartment and found it very convenient to get to other places. The owners were very helpful too.

Happy Holiday
Stayed here for a week with family. Fantastic apartment. Very comfortable and had everything we needed and more. Beautiful architecture giving the rooms in the apartment that real wow factor. Very nicely decorated. Weather fantastic. Spent lots of time on the balcony. Great views and so relaxing to hear the waves rolling in. Had lots of meals there enjoying family time and a glass of wine watching the beautiful sunset. We were lucky enough to catch a meteor shower, loved seeing the shooting stars😁 Great base for exploring surrounding area. Would recommend Whitstable and Canterbury. Kids loved swimming in the sea and the beach is a short stroll away. There is some building work below but it really didn’t impact on our enjoyment of the apartment and the work was finished by 4pm Tracey the owner was very friendly and on hand if needed. Thanks Tracey we had a great stay in Margate

About the neighborhood
Margate is one of most famous Victorian seaside towns with a commanding position overlooking the sea surrounded by many sandy beaches (the main Margate beach being the largest) all of which have the European Flag of approval. Margate has one of the sunniest climates in England and an abundance of available outdoor activities. From sailing, swimming, kite surfing, golf, to cycling or rambling along the coastline Margate and the surrounding area offers beautiful scenery in a vibrant environment. Margates old town has undergone extensive renovation in recent years and contains an array of fine art galleries, traditional pubs, wine bars, and restaurants to enjoy and relax in as you wander around the cobblestone streets. The recent addition of the Turner Contemporary has attracted national praise for both the gallery and the exhibitions staged to date. Along the coast is Royal Ramsgate with its marina many harbouside restaurants and wine bars. Further along the coast is the famous sea side town of Broadstairs steeped in the history of Charles Dickens. This lovely town has many fine bars and restaurants and Viking Bay provides a beautiful beach location. Various festivals and events occur throughout the year in both Margate and Broadstairs including jazz, folk music, beach volley ball, art and literary events. Quex House,a fine voluminous country mansion near Birchington offers 250 acres of beautiful parkland and a farm shop. For the golfer there is an abundance of golf clubs in and around the Isle of Thanet including the world famous Royal St Georges at Sandwich.
Getting around
Margate train station is a five minute walk from Royal Sea Bathing. There is a very good local bus service and the bus stops are immediately outside Royal Sea Bathing. The Loop bus serve travels continually between the towns of Birchington, Westgate, Royal Sea Bathing, Margate, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate.
Access
Car not needed
How to get there
If travelling from the North (M1 / A1), take the M25 clockwise to the Dartford tunnel / Queen Elizabeth Bridge and follow signs for the M2 as the below under directions travelling from London. If travelling from the West, take the M25 anti clockwise and take the M26 which filters into the left hand lane off the M25 - just follow the signs. The M26 merges into the M20. Follow the M20 until junction 7 and turn off the motorway onto the A249 which will be signed to Canterbury, Margate, & Ramsgate. You will come to a large roundabout at the end of the A249 where you take the first exit signed for the M2 and Canterbury (junction 7). Then follow the rest of the directions as below under travelling from London. If travelling from London take the most practical roads to get to the M2 motorway and Margate is literally straight on down the M2 which turns into the A299.The A299 ends at a round about where you need to take the second exit which is the A28. This is a short length of dual carriageway which takes you to the Village of Birchington where you will come to a mini roundabout. Take the second exit which is effectively turning right and follow the signs to Margate (A28 still - also known as the Canterbury Way). You will pass through the small town of Westgate and after approx ten mins you will in Margate. If travelling by train from London there are direct trains to Margate. The fastest service is the High Speed train from St Pancras if coming from North or West London or pick the high speed train up from Stratford International if coming from East London (travel time is approximately 1 hour and fifteen minutes and the trains go direct to Margate albeit some of the trains split at Ashford so make sure you are in the correct part of the train). Alternatively you can take normal network trains from Victoria, Cannon Street, and London Bridge. These trains are a bit cheaper than the High Speed train but take longer at around 1 and three quarter hours but all go direct to Margate. For those travelling from the Continent, the port of Dover is only a short distance down the coast and takes approximately 45 minutes drive.
