Highcroft Cottage, Burley
I don't normally bother with reviews but I do think this property has presumably improved since the last reviews. It isn't tired now. The rooms are large and there is loads of storage. We spent a lovely week in a lovely area. It has a perfect setting. With a nice little private garden area with seating. There were 5 of us including 1 child. The only downside (which didn't bother us as we were one family) were the bathrooms. There is only 1 shower downstairs, which worked perfectly, and a bath upstairs with telephone shower attachment but no shower curtain. I don't think this would have worked for 8 people or if we were not family (3 couples for instance). Otherwise everything was perfect. Very well equipped property. Sally looked after us perfectly. We would not hesitate to book again.

Great location, unfortunately not such a great property
Very tired property, in desperate need of total refurbishment. The shower downstairs barely works. There's no shower over the bath upstairs part from a tap attachment which there is no wall bracket for (& no shower curtain anyway). The kitchen worktop doesn't go all the way to the walls. The oven is terrible & only two gas rings work. The kitchen lighting is awful (we had to go out & purchase a brighter bulb to try & improve it). Wallpaper/Paint peeling all over the place. The extractor fan/s in the utility room & WC sound like an aeroplane taking off. No instructions on what to do with the rubbish & no sign of a bin outside.

Beautiful location
Beautiful location in the pretty village of Burley. Excellent facilities, with good sized bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets. There was a wood burning fireplace in the cosy lounge which was perfect for the autumnal weather. Cottage was a little worn in places but this was reflected in the price as it was excellent value for money. As we have family that leave nearby we would definitely book this cottage again.

Perfect stay in a perfect setting
We spent a week here and it was wonderful . A very comfortable cottage, room for everyone and in a lovely setting in an immaculately-kept garden, with the apple orchard close by. The amenities were great, with our own small garden fenced off, and with picnic table. The bedrooms were very comfortable with plenty of storage space for clothes, and the kitchen was well supplied with equipment and utensils. Plenty of crockery for probably more than the eight people the cottage catered for. The only thing missing (for us, anyway) was the lack of decent-sized cereal bowls. The ones provided were a little bit shallow for holding anything much except maybe a scoop of icecream, but we managed! On the whole would definitely recommend to friends and family. Dotted around the house were paintings of the New Forest for sale which we loved so much we bought one on leaving ! Sally came over and introduced herself almost immediately and made us feel very welcome.

Cottage in Burley
Seven of us in total (5 adults / 2 kids) stayed for a week at Highcroft Cottage. The cottage is in a good location for exploring the New Forest. Inside the cottage had plenty of room and was equipped with everything we needed. But it was quite dated and in need of a bit of redecoration or sprucing up.

A nice cottage
Arrived for 2 nights for a family wedding. The wife and I had a double room which was very well presented and had plenty of space, which was a good thing as we needed the space for a travel cot for our daughter. All the amenities are available, Wi-Fi however was a bit hit and miss though. Be pre warned this is a cottage that sleeps 8 and there is only 1 room with en suite and 1 shared bathroom so make sure you get in before the bathroom hoggers lol! The only reason I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 is because of the Wi-Fi although I am on Vodafone network and 4g works very well here. For a nice weekend stay in the new forest to do some sightseeing then this is more than adequate for your needs.

A comfortable, welcoming cottage in a splendid location
After an awful lot of searching for somewhere reasonably large and yet affordable in the New Forest area to hold a bit of a family gathering, we struck gold when we booked Highcroft Cottage. It fitted the bill just perfectly. The accommodation comprises: on the ground floor, a large dining room, a living room (complete with a log burner and a generous basket of logs), a well-equipped kitchen, a single bedroom with an en suite accessible shower room, a small toilet; upstairs, there's a bathroom, a large double bedroom, a room with two single beds, and a room with a double and a single. Outside, there's an enclosed lawned area with a picnic table and chairs. There were seven of us for some of the time - five adults, two toddlers - and we had more than enough space. It isn't desperately modern in decor and fixtures, but we found it to be really comfortable and homely. It's mostly clean and tidy: the en suite shower room has seen better days and is rather grotty, but that was very much the exception. Not having another shower was a bit of a pain when the house was full too. These are minor quibbles, however, especially given the price. It's very light and airy, and there are lovely views from many of the windows of the gardens and nearby woods. Although there are other buildings nearby and adjoining, the atmosphere (toddlers permitting) is peaceful and restful, bird song mixing with the sounds of the farm. The garden, while small, catches the sun and provides a perfect play area for the children, particularly as it has an outside tap. The plants might not need watering for a while! Older children might find it less satisfactory, but could easily be sent to find entertainment in the woods. Those woods are accessible through the back gate and are glorious on a sunny day; once you work it out, you can walk through them to the centre of the village without crossing any busy roads. And, of course, you can always pop next door to the Cider Pantry for a delicious lunch. Overall, then, we were absolutely delighted with our find. It feels like a cosy, comfortable home-from-home, nestled into a really superb location.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable
Prime location to go cycling, walking, beaches and discovering the forest. Easy to get to everywhere in Hants and New Forest we wanted to visit.
