We welcome well-behaved, quiet pets of all species, (although they are not allowed upstairs into the bedrooms, for the comfort of our non-pet owning guests.) The local area is rich with history and activities ranging from the active to the artistic to the relaxing. The High Peak Trail is less than ten minutes from the door and cycle hire is available nearby. Carsington Reservoir is ten minutes way for water sports enthusiasts and birdwatchers, and steam trains run in the Ecclesbourne valley nearby. The spectacular history of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Tissington and Longshaw are all within easy reach, as are Baslow & Curbar edges, Black Rocks and only little further distant, the Blue John Caverns. About the neighborhood
Wirksworth - just down the hill - has a wonderful variety of food with a local supermarket, deli, cafes (Sour Cow is a treat), and a smashing monthly farmers market. The Feather Star pub serves local Gaol Ale. If you just want a coffee, the Gastro Pod at the National Stone Centre is a short and pleasant walk from the house.
Getting around
Water Lane is at the top of Middleton Hill and ideal for walkers and cyclists. As it is in a rural area, a car or bicycle is recommended. However there is a bus stop just over the road that connects to Derby and the surrounding area, the nearest train station (Cromford) is a short taxi ride away (less than ten minutes) and Middleton Cycle Hire is a short walk away at Middleton Top.
